Makin' Tunnels [Ari]

It's a long trek back into the desert proper, far from her usual patrol route and even further west of Tarn, the dusty southern gem of a city. She follows the rough trail they'd traversed when they came hunting for bandits.

Who, after all, would dare to venture out here? In the wake of the battle, the ousted brigands, and the toxins that the alchemist had used. Though surely they'd be neutralized enough by now.

Even if they weren't, Arianne braved the journey anyhow. Well supplied with skins of water and rations.

When she arrives it is a barren, desolate wastland. Which, for her purposes, is perfect.

The Martinet tugs off one of her gloves and reaches into her pocket for the lustrous, amber colored artifact gemstone. She holds it up and considers it against the rising desert sun.

It resonates with the ring on her hand. Two sources of power tied to these sands and the winds that sweep over them.

Though the forests of Nalian are her home, the heat of the desert is welcoming. So is the warmth of the gem as it rests in her palm. A power she probably should not have- that may border on heretical- yet there it rests in her open hand.

Power overwhelming, right there in her palm. And how will it feel when it's gone? Who's to say. Who's to say that it even has to leave at all.

Dangerous thoughts, and Arianne shakes them free. That's thinking too far ahead when she has work to do in the here and now.

With the power of the sands and the desert winds at her beck and call, she begins her task. In the hidden, rocky edifices of the western deserts she begins to carve tunnels all her own. Secret passages, chambers, all concealed by the mountains and sprawling dunes above.

For what purpose in the end?...Who knows.
