 	Growing up in Jeonju, Minwoon was a very good student but didn't have the best reputation, he began to act out and befriended the wrong people all through high school. After school he decided to clean up and pursue his real dream, becoming a singer. His mother was a fan of idols, and she introduced Minwoon to them. Minwoon said goodbye to his mother and father at a young age and headed off to audition for each and every company he could find, and was soon scouted by WJM. Not even a year after he began training, his mother called him from his hometown, pronouncing his father dead. Minwoon, having never been close with his father, wasn't terribly burdened but knew his mother would be, and gave up his dream for a short while to go home and support her. After a year of silence from the young man, he headed back to WJM to see if he could continue his training. He was told no numerous times, due to there already being an abundance of trainees and his abrupt wanting to leave, but after a reaudition was hesitantly allowed back in to continue his dream.

Max said goodbye to his mother and father and set off to South Korea where he was scouted for the entertainment agency WJN. Not even a year after he began training, his mother called him from San Diego. She told him the news of how his alcoholic father was found in a lake by their house, dead. Max was not close to his father but still blamed himself. He went back to San Diego and supported his mother for the rest of the year, losing hope for his dreams. Max's mother was disappointed by this and bought her son a one-way ticket to South Korea. Max was reluctant but went back anyway, and thankfully he was accepted back into WJN to continue his training. The day he debuted with the group was the happiest day of his life. Unfortunately, his mother could not be there with him, and he only hoped this was all worth it.
