1 | - | Fifty years before our story begins, a group of Occultists had made an attempt at immortality through a ritual that would later become the world's downfall. They sought a way to transcend humanity and cast off their mortal shell, effectively granting them eternal life. |
1 | + | For one reason or another, your character was recently apprehended by some sort of authority figure for just about any suspicion. Your character is currently sentenced to a large jail found upon an island just off the coast of Kilmarn, known as Jailer's Key. True to its name, Jailer's Key serves as a place for prisoners or criminals to be sent to for life, where they live and die rotting behind an empty jail cell. |

3 | - | The result of the ritual, however, was catastrophic. The Church says that it was God’s way of smiting humanity for its arrogance, while the faithless say it was the Occultist’s plans gone awry. Whatever the case, a great curse had befell the practitioners of the ritual. The Curse of the Beast. This curse spread to others, and created the first fiends to walk the earth. These creatures only grew in power as they rampaged across the world, killing and devouring everything in sight to gain even further strength. |
3 | + | Jailer's Key is a very small, low-lying isle, with enough room for the main prison facility, and a large yard surrounded by enormous walls in case an inmate somehow gets the gall to swim away to safety. No man has ever managed to leap out of Jailer's Key and get out alive however, be it from the marksmanship of the jailers, or the long swim through cold waters. |

5 | - | As this blight carried on, a guild known as the Shadow Hunters were created. A Shadow Hunter's job is simple: To slay all beast's that plague this land, and to apprehend any Occultist that they happen to come by. You and your group belong to a new hunting party, just now completing your training and celebrating through your first hunt. |

20 | Talk to the DM if you want to be an Alchemist. I’d really rather only 1/3rd of the party be one. Magic isn't necessary to begin with, but you may get something later.

23 | You might want to consider reading these things to help in developing your character. (Or just ask the DM)
