  15. STATEMENT 1
  16.
  17. POLIKHALOV, Valery Alekseevich
  18. [No rank given in header; associated with Military Unit (v/ch) 52035]
  19.
  20. I, POLIKHALOV Valery Alekseevich, on October 4, 1982, at 19:30, while
  21. returning home from duty, observed unknown phenomena in the atmosphere at an
  22. altitude of approximately 5-6 thousand meters above the village of Usovo.
  23.
  24. After the bus stopped at the intersection of roads near the village of Usovo,
  25. looking along the road for a distance of 5-6 km, I saw two brightly glowing
  26. objects, resembling Christmas tree garlands in shape. They glowed with a bright
  27. golden light and these lights flickered. Each object contained 6-8 brightly
  28. glowing points, which were arranged in the form of a ring. The distance between
  29. them was approximately 2-3 km. Then from the left object, a glowing ball
  30. separated — the same size as the glowing lights — and rapidly moved toward the
  31. right object. During its approach, it went dark.
  32.
  33. After this, the left object moved in the direction of the settlement of
  34. Sverdlov and disappeared from sight, while the right object began to move in
  35. the same direction. It moved slowly over a period of approximately 15 seconds
  36. and stopped. During the movement, the shape of the object, which was formed by
  37. the flickering lights, changed from elliptical to a straight line. I observed
  38. this phenomenon for 5-7 minutes, then got on the bus and departed. While the
  39. bus was moving, the glowing object could be seen between the treetops. After
  40. traveling about 3 km, to the right of the road, in a gap between trees, I
  41. again saw a glowing object, similar to those seen earlier, in which the lights
  42. were arranged in the form of an ellipse. Then these lights lined up in a row
  43. (i.e., the object changed its angle of inclination) and slowly faded, as if
  44. dissolving.
  45.
  46. Upon approaching the railroad crossing before the village of Topilnya, already
  47. in the evening sky, a brightly glowing object appeared, elliptical in shape,
  48. elongated downward. The lights flickered and shimmered; the glow was bright
  49. golden. The object was at an altitude of approximately 5 km, to the right of
  50. the road, in the direction of the village of Usovo.
  51.
  52. The second time I observed this phenomenon was on October 4, 1982, at 20:40,
  53. in the area of the railroad crossing between the village of Topilnya and the
  54. settlement of Zhovtnevoe, where I had driven with my wife, son, and friends in
  55. my car. Upon approaching the crossing, we got out of the car and began to
  56. survey the sky. We were located approximately 100 meters before the crossing on
  57. the Topilnya side. About 2-3 minutes after arriving, to the left of the road
  58. at approximately 30-35 degrees, at an altitude of 5-7 km, a bright flash
  59. blinked and went out. Then it flashed again, and after that, 6-8 bright lights
  60. of a bright golden color ignited around it, arranged in the form of an ellipse.
  61. From them, a brightly glowing ball separated and flew toward the ground; during
  62. its approach, it went dark. About 3-4 minutes later, the myriad of lights
  63. faded. After about 10 minutes, this phenomenon repeated — that is, after two
  64. flashes, bright golden lights flared up. After 2-3 minutes, the glowing object
  65. rapidly began to move in our direction, increasing in size at great speed.
  66. Then the object just as suddenly stopped. The distance to it was approximately
  67. 1-2 km. At this point, the children who were with us became very frightened
  68. that it would fall on us. After stopping, the light slowly faded, as if
  69. dissolving. About 10 minutes later, at a great distance, a "garland bloomed"
  70. again and then went out once more.
  71.
  72. We got in the car and drove home.
  73.
  74. No more glowing objects were visible.

  83. Captain KOVALENKO, A.E.
  84. [Military Unit (v/ch) 33[...] — department of Automated Control Systems]
  85.
  86. EXPLANATORY NOTE
  87.
  88. I, Captain Kovalenko A.E., [on] 4.10.82, together with my wife and children,
  89. and the family of Captain Polikhalov V.P., in the area of Topilnya, from
  90. [approximately] 20 hours 15 minutes to [approximately] [illegible], observed an
  91. unidentified flying object:
  92.
  93. The first time, in the form of a triangle, approximately the following shape:
  94.
  95. [Diagram in original]
  96. Upper part: bright golden glow with a reddish tint.
  97. Lower part: bright golden light.
  98.
  99. The second time, between the village of Ozerany and the railroad, in the form
  100. of an ellipse. I represent the arrangement of glowing lights in the following
  101. sketch:
  102.
  103. [Diagram in original]
  104. All lights glowed with a bright golden light.
  105.
  106. The glow lasted from 20 seconds and longer. When two of the lower lights went
  107. out, they descended downward. These lights ignited at various locations, though
  108. always in the same plane. Only the distance to the given object changed.
  109. Movement occurred randomly in various directions, but at considerable speed.
  110. The closest distance to which the given object approached was approximately
  111. 1.5 km at an altitude of up to 1,000 meters. Judging by the arrangement of
  112. lights, the given body represents an elliptical body. I cannot describe its
  113. form in detail, since it was already dark.
  114.
  115. This [object] produced no sound effects during its movement.

  124. Lt. Colonel BALANEV, N.A.
  125. Military Unit (v/ch) 32157
  126.
  127. EXPLANATORY NOTE
  128.
  129. I, Lt. Colonel Balanev N.A., hereby explain that on 4.10.82, while returning
  130. home from duty on the bus, together with other passengers, between 19:20 and
  131. 19:40, I observed a glow on the horizon previously unknown to me. The glow
  132. consisted of a multitude of flickering stars ranging in color from pale yellow
  133. to dark cherry-red. Five constellations [groups] were clearly distinguishable.
  134. Over time, some of them went out completely, and then the glow reappeared in
  135. the form of flickering individual light sources of varying intensity. In form,
  136. they were arranged approximately as shown in the drawing:
  137.
  138. [Diagram in original]
  139.
  140. We first noticed the glow while traveling on the road before the village of
  141. Perebrody. In order to get a better look at what was glowing, we stopped the
  142. bus at the intersection of the Perebrody-Usovo-Novye Belokorovichi roads. The
  143. glow was observed above the village of Usovo in the gap between the trees
  144. standing on both sides of the road. The azimuth and altitude of the glow can
  145. be determined quite precisely from the observation point at the intersection.
  146. The second observation of this same glow we conducted from the road in the area
  147. of Lake "Korma." The glow was also above the village of Usovo. Here, four
  148. bright stars were observed, also flickering. Our initial assumption was that it
  149. was a reflection of sunlight from a helicopter or a flock of birds, but then
  150. as the sun set, we began to doubt the sunlight reflection [theory].

  163.
  164. I, Private BASHKATOV Andrey Vasilyevich, on October 4, 1982, departed by
  165. vehicle GAZ-469 from the second division [battalion] to Belokorovichi. Before
  166. reaching the village of Perebrody, I saw glowing lights in the sky. The light
  167. of the fires was bright-dark [intensely colored]. This was at approximately
  168. 19:30. The arrangement of the lights formed an indeterminate shape. The number
  169. of lights was approximately 10. Since I was behind the wheel of the vehicle, I
  170. was unable to get a better look. After several minutes, we turned into the 1st
  171. division [battalion]. I did not see any more lights in the sky. The glowing
  172. lights were in the area of the village of Usovo.

  178. UAZ-469 is the correct designation for the standard Soviet military utility

  189. EXPLANATORY NOTE
  190.
  191. I, Captain DUMAN Anatoly Pavlovich, while returning home from duty at 19:30,
  192. heard exclamations from officers sitting in front — Captain TUKMACHEV Z.I.,
  193. Lt. Colonel KUMIN, and others. When the bus stopped at the turn of the road
  194. toward Zhovtnevoe, we got out of the bus and saw, in the direction approximately
  195. toward the village of Usovo, a bright glow of shimmering points.
  196.
  197. These points constantly changed shape and appeared to be moving. When the bus
  198. continued moving, we sat on the rear seat with Captain YANKOVYM N.N. and
  199. observed this phenomenon. After approximately 10 minutes, it faded out, and it
  200. faded gradually — that is, as if one [light] after another. And after about
  201. another 10 minutes, a new glow appeared, but already to the side of the first
  202. one, and moreover larger, and it had the form of a circle tilted toward the
  203. ground. This flickering glow continued until the village of Topilnya — that is,
  204. I saw it there for the last time.

  215.
  216. I, Lt. Colonel POVAR V.P., on October 4, 1982, at approximately 19:30, while
  217. returning from duty on bus [registration] 54-32 LI along the Ignatpol-Usovo
  218. road, saw burning lights in the sky (4-5 of them) of a golden color.
  219.
  220. When the bus stopped, the lights did not move. While driving along the road
  221. toward the Usovo-Belokorovichi intersection, the impression was that the lights
  222. were moving along with us.
  223.
  224. During a second stop, the arrangement of the glowing lights changed, and for
  225. some period of time (approximately 10-20 seconds), the glow ceased, and then
  226. they lit up again.
  227.
  228. The shape of the lights resembled a helicopter (based on their arrangement).

  238.
  239. EXPLANATION
  240.
  241. I, Lt. Colonel ZINKOVSKY Viktor Stefanovich, departing from "Kosa-30"
  242. [military installation/callsign] at approximately 20:20, was traveling on the
  243. Korosten-Belokorovichi road. After the railroad crossing of the Belokorovichi-
  244. Ovruch railway, upon turning onto the bypass road, ahead at an angle to the
  245. horizon of approximately 20-30 degrees, I noticed a group of glowing points
  246. (if one can call them that), arranged in the following manner:
  247.
  248. [Diagram in original]
  249. In the direction of the military settlement, or slightly to the right (K-20).
  250.
  251. While traveling to the military settlement, these glowing points remained
  252. stationary or slowly moved to the left. Upon approaching the station of
  253. Belokorovichi, the position of the points changed somewhat.
  254.
  255. [Diagram in original showing changed position]
  256.
  257. I thought that a helicopter had probably arrived at the military settlement.
  258. When I arrived at the settlement, I got out of the car, looked at the place
  259. where I had previously observed the object — there was nothing there anymore.

  267. Major LIPETSKY, V.S.
  268. [Associated with Military Unit area, traveled with Captain Ryabinin]
  269.
  270. EXPLANATORY NOTE
  271.
  272. I, Major LIPETSKY V.S., hereby explain that on 4.10.82, while returning home
  273. from duty with Captain Ryabinin in a personal vehicle ZAZ-968M, on the route
  274. between the village of Perebrody and the village of Usovo, I noticed that ahead
  275. and above, directly along the road, somewhere above the village of Usovo, a
  276. glow of some object was observed. The glow came from a group of glowing points,
  277. forming 5 groups. The lights were spread over an area approximately equal to
  278. the area of the setting sun. The altitude was approximately 30 meters above the
  279. edge of the distant forest. The color of the lights ranged from pale yellow to
  280. red. Time of discovery: 19:10-19:15.
  281.
  282. When we stopped at the Usovo-Belokorovichi intersection, the lights remained
  283. in place. We stood at the intersection for about three minutes.
  284.
  285. During further travel, Captain Ryabinin's steering wheel began to shake in his
  286. hands, and the front wheels of the vehicle [shuddered], as if the car were
  287. driving on a very uneven road. Captain Ryabinin stopped. He checked the wheel
  288. fasteners and steering rods. Everything was normal. I suggested to Captain
  289. Ryabinin that he let me drive home, as I had more driving experience. And the
  290. same situation repeated for me after 100 meters — the same [shaking], although
  291. the road was smooth. After another 50 meters, it stopped on its own, and we
  292. reached the settlement of Belokorovichi normally.

  301. EXPLANATION
  302.
  303. I, major Lipezki V.6., explain by this list that I was
  304. coming back home from my work with Captain Ryabinin by my
  305. car ZAZ-968M. Driving along the road Perebrody-Usovo I paid
  306. attention to the luminescence of some object straight in
  307. front of me somewhere above Usovo. The luminescence came
  308. from a group of shining spots forming 5 groups. The lights
  309. were disposed on the area approximately equal to the
  310. area of the setting sun. It was situated at the altitude about
  311. 30 m. above the edge of a distant forest. the colour of the
  312. lights was from pale-yellow to red. It was 19.10-19.15.
  313.
  314. When we stopped at the crossing Usovo-Belokorovichi the
  315. lights remained where they were. We stayed at the crossing
  316. for about 3 minutes.
  317.
  318. We went further, the steering-wheel began to tremble in
  319. Captain's hands and the front wheels of the car began to
  320. tremble either as if the road was very uneven. Captain
  321. Ryabinin stopped the car, checked the steering wheel and
  322. front wheels, they were in order. I suggested that I tried to
  323. drive the car as I was more experienced driver. The
  324. situation repeated after 100 m. though the road wasn't rough.
  325. After another 50 m. the process stopped and we reached
  326. Belokorovichy normally.

  334. Senior Lieutenant KOBYLYANSKY, Vitaly Alexandrovich
  335. Deputy Commander, Battery 4, Military Unit (v/ch) 32156
  336.
  337. REPORT
  338.
  339. I, Senior Lieutenant KOBYLYANSKY Vitaly Alexandrovich, deputy commander of
  340. Battery 4 of Military Unit 32156, regarding the observation of a UFO, can
  341. report the following. On October 4, 1982, at 19 hours 30 minutes, I departed
  342. by car ("Zhiguli") from the city of Zhitomir in the direction of the city of
  343. Korosten. After several minutes, on a straight stretch of road, I noticed a
  344. fairly bright double point, flickering at an angle of approximately 10 degrees
  345. to the horizon. The first impression was of two glowing headlights of a
  346. taking-off airplane, flying straight away from the observer. Passenger Major
  347. DROBAKHIN suggested that they were the signal lights of a retransmitter tower
  348. in the city of Chernyakhov. However, having passed the retransmitter tower, we
  349. still saw the lights in a direction approximately to the north, slightly risen
  350. above the horizon. Now two groups of lights became visible, unevenly
  351. flickering, of a reddish color. Approaching Korosten, the approximate
  352. arrangement of the lights became visible in the form of a "kite" [lit.
  353. "vozdushny zmei" — aerial snake], with the altitude visually changing to 20
  354. degrees above the horizon, to the left of Korosten.
  355.
  356. [Diagrams in original showing arrangement of light groups]
  357.
  358. Then the lights disappeared from view, and until the very moment of entering
  359. the village of Belokorovichi, I did not see them. I noticed them again at
  360. about 21:00, low above the horizon, approximately in the northwest direction.
  361. In the settlement, the lights were not visible, probably due to the trees.
  362. Along the route, periodic interference with radio reception on LW [long wave]
  363. and MW [medium wave] occurred, similar to crossing a high-voltage power
  364. transmission line — that is, a sharp increase in noise — although there were no
  365. power lines.

  378. REPORT
  379.
  380. I, senior-lieutenant Kobulyansky Vitali Alexandrovich,
  381. vice-commander of battery 4 of MU 32156 can inform about the
  382. following: On the 4th of October 1982 I left Zhitomir for
  383. Korosten at 19.30 by my car Zhiguli. Then on the straight
  384. part of the road I saw a bright double spot at an angle of
  385. 10 degrees to the horizon, it was twinkling.
  386.
  387. My first impression was that they were head lights of the
  388. air-plane taking off. My passanger Major Drobakhin supposed
  389. that they were signal lights of a retranslator in Chernyakhov.
  390. But when we had passed the tower of the retranslator, we saw
  391. the lights again approximately in the north and a bit higher
  392. above the horizon. Now two groups of lights were seen, they
  393. were twinkling irregularly, they were of the reddish colour.
  394. On approaching Korosten we saw that they were forming a
  395. "kite", the altitude changed to about 70 degrees above the
  396. horizon, left to Korosten.
  397.
  398. Then we lost the sight of the lights and until we came to
  399. Belokorovichi I didn't see them. I noticed them again in the
  400. north-western direction above the horizon at about 21.00.
  401. The lights were not seen in the town, maybe because of trees.
  402. While we were going hindrances arosed in our radio in LW and
  403. MW as if we were coming under high-voltage lines, but there
  404. were no high-voltage lines there. Witnesses: Vice-commander
  405. of the division Major Drobakhin and mess-room director

  411. [Translator's note: The original English translation gives the altitude as "70
  412. degrees" where the Russian text reads "20 degrees" (200 in the original,
  413. apparently meaning 20 degrees with a superscript zero as a degree symbol). The
  414. discrepancy may be due to a misreading of the handwritten/typed original.]

  433. illumination" mode upon initial activation. At the same time, on the ARI
  434. [automatic recording instrument] tape, information was also spontaneously
  435. recorded:
  436.
  437. - ..---.. [Morse-like signal]
  438. - 4 blank spaces;
  439. - a control codogram at 21:38;
  440. - TsP [command post] with link 1 containing: "GP report" at 21:38.
  441.
  442. Testing of the apparatus and measurement of parameters according to technical
  443. charts No. 1-30 revealed no deviations. The apparatus is functioning normally.
  444.
  445. I assume that this incident could have occurred due to the effect of a powerful
  446. impulse on the apparatus power supply system, specifically on block BP-263
  447. (U10), then on blocks VTG-127 (U5, U3, U2), and then on blocks U14, U12, and
  448. U11, which during this period carried the main load for processing information
  449. in the apparatus.
  450.
  451. No anomalies were observed in the operation of other communications equipment
  452. at this communications node. No anomalies were observed in the operation of ACS
  453. apparatus at links 5-1 and 6-1 either.
  454.
  455. No such cases had been observed before. I consider it necessary to note that,
  456. as operational experience shows, apparatus 1S9343 is sensitive to supply
  457. voltage.
  458.
  459. In July of this year, during a thunderstorm, a 10-ampere fuse was blown in the
  460. power panel of apparatus 1S9948, bypassing all electrical assemblies at the
  461. communications node.

  471. EXPLANATION
  472.
  473. I, senior assistant of communication service commander
  474. of MU 52035 dealing with ACS and Computer Systems, Katsman M.
  475. Davidovich is reporting by this that on the 4th of October
  476. 1982 at 21.37 I observed spontaneous illumination of all
  477. displays: BR,P,Sh,DR,GP,SR,PR,CZ,BT,NBT, GP message, GB
  478. message,PP,PS,OR,PNS,Z,PZS,PINS, Figure indicators as in the
  479. regime "light marks" at first push on the information board.
  480. On the tape of ARI the information was fixed spontaneously:
  481.
  482. ..---..
  483. -four spaces;
  484. -control code combination at 21.38,
  485. -ZP with chain 1 "message GP" at 21.38
  486.
  487. Testing of apparatus and measurement of parameters
  488. according to technical map 1-30 showed no defects. The
  489. apparatus was functioning normally.
  490.
  491. I suppose that this effect can take place as a result of
  492. the influence of a powerful impulse on the apparatus's power
  493. system, especially on block BP-263 (U-10) then on VTG-127
  494. (U5, U3,U2) and then on blocks U14, U12 and U11, bearing the
  495. main load in processing data in the apparatus.
  496.
  497. No abnormal effects were observed in other communication
  498. means. No abnormal effects in ACS chains 5-1 and 6-1 were
  499. observed either.
  500.
  501. No such cases had been observed before. I consider it
  502. necessary to mention that experience showed that apparatus
  503. 153948 were weak in power system.
  504.
  505. In July of this year during a thunder storm 10 amp. fuse
  506. was blown in the power system of apparatus 153948
  507. passing all electric assemblies in order.

  520.
  521. TRANSLATOR'S NOTES (v2)
  522.
  523. 1. CONTEXT: These statements were collected from Soviet military personnel
  524. stationed in the Belokorovichi area (Ovruch District, Zhitomir Oblast,
  525. Ukrainian SSR) following UFO sightings on the evening of October 4, 1982.
  526. All statements were written on October 5-6, 1982.
  527.
  528. 2. MILITARY UNITS IDENTIFIED:
  529. - v/ch 52035 — associated with Polikhalov, Katsman (communications/ACS)
  530. - v/ch 32157 — Balanev, Bashkatov
  531. - v/ch 32192 — Duman, Povar
  532. - v/ch 32156 — Kobylyansky (Battery 4)
  533. - v/ch 33[illegible] — Kovalenko (ACS department)
  534.
  535. 3. GEOGRAPHY: The villages of Usovo, Topilnya, Perebrody, Belokorovichi,
  536. Ozerany, and Zhovtnevoe are all in the Ovruch district of Zhitomir Oblast,
  537. northern Ukraine. The road network described runs roughly NE-SW between
  538. Ignatpol/Korosten and Belokorovichi. "Kosa-30" (Statement 7) appears to be
  539. a military installation or callsign.
  540.
  541. 4. TIMELINE OF EVENTS (October 4, 1982):
  542. - 19:10-19:15 — First sighting by Lipetsky/Ryabinin on Perebrody-Usovo road
  543. - 19:20-19:40 — Sightings from military bus (Balanev, Bashkatov, Duman,
  544. Povar, Polikhalov, and others including Tukmachev, Kumin, Yankovym)
  545. - 19:30 — Kobylyansky departs Zhitomir, sees lights en route to Korosten
  546. - ~20:20 — Zinkovsky sees lights on Korosten-Belokorovichi road
  547. - 20:40 — Polikhalov's second observation with family at Topilnya crossing
  548. - 20:15-21:40 — Kovalenko and Polikhalov families observe from Topilnya area
  549. - ~21:00 — Kobylyansky sees lights again low on horizon near Belokorovichi
  550. - 21:37 — Katsman documents spontaneous equipment activation at comm node
  551.
  552. 5. KEY CORRECTIONS FROM GOOGLE VISION OCR (vs. previous Tesseract version):
  553. - Polikhalov's second observation confirmed as same date, October 4, at
  554. 20:40 (not "October 8" or "October 5" as previously uncertain).
  555. - Settlement name confirmed as "Zhovtnevoe" (Жовтневе/Жовтневим), not
  556. "Dovtnevoe."
  557. - Lipetsky's vehicle confirmed as ZAZ-968M (personal car "Zaporozhets"),
  558. not a UAZ military vehicle.
  559. - Lipetsky's lights described as "5 groups" (пять групп), not "resembling
  560. a star."
  561. - Altitude of lights in Lipetsky's account: "30 meters above the edge of
  562. the distant forest" (confirmed by both Russian copies and the original
  563. English translation).
  564. - Polikhalov statement: "children" (дети) who were frightened confirmed
  565. from page 2/16 — the previous translation read "women" in error.
  566. - Balanev's name confirmed as "Баланёв" (Balanev), not "Belenov."
  567. - Katsman's apparatus designations confirmed: 1S9343 (информационное табло)
  568. and 1S9948 (щит питания) — these are standard Soviet military ACS
  569. designators, not "153343"/"153948."
  570. - Block designation confirmed as "БП-263" (BP-263, i.e., power supply block),
  571. not "51-263" or "Б1-263."
  572. - Kobylyansky's radio interference: confirmed on "ДВ и СВ" (LW and MW),
  573. analogous to crossing "ЛЭП" (high-voltage power transmission lines).
  574.
  575. 6. VEHICLE REFERENCES:
  576. - "Zhiguli" (Kobylyansky) — Soviet-made Lada automobile
  577. - ZAZ-968M (Lipetsky) — "Zaporozhets," a small Soviet personal car
  578. - GAZ/UAZ-469 (Bashkatov) — Soviet military utility vehicle
  579. - Bus 54-32 LI (Povar) — military transport bus
  580.
  581. 7. NOTABLE PHENOMENA:
  582. - Multiple independent witnesses describe golden elliptical light formations
  583. - Polikhalov describes a luminous ball separating from the main object
  584. - Lipetsky and Ryabinin experienced unexplained vehicle vibrations (steering
  585. wheel shaking, front wheel trembling) consistent with electromagnetic
  586. interference reports in close-encounter literature
  587. - Kobylyansky experienced radio interference on LW and MW bands resembling
  588. power line noise, despite no power lines being present
  589. - Katsman documents spontaneous activation of military communications
  590. equipment (apparatus 1S9343) at 21:37 — approximately 2 hours after the
  591. first visual sightings — attributed to "a powerful impulse on the power
  592. supply system"
  593.
  594. 8. ORIGINAL ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS: Pages 10 and 13-14 of the source PDF
  595. contain English translations that appear to be contemporary with the
  596. original documents (likely prepared for foreign briefings or intelligence
  597. sharing). These are reproduced in full under Statements 8, 9, and 10.
  598. They cover the Lipetsky, Kobylyansky, and Katsman statements. Minor
  599. discrepancies between these translations and the Russian originals are
  600. noted where significant (e.g., the 70-degree vs. 20-degree altitude
  601. discrepancy in the Kobylyansky statement).
  602.
  603. 9. DUPLICATE PAGE COMPARISON: Pages 1-9 correspond to pages 15-25 (same
  604. documents scanned twice, possibly from different copies or at different
  605. times). The second set (15-25) is generally slightly cleaner for the
  606. Polikhalov, Balanev, Bashkatov, Duman, and Povar statements. The first
  607. set (1-9) is marginally better for the Zinkovsky and Lipetsky statements.
  608. Both sets were used to cross-reference and resolve ambiguities.
