- What are Duo Merge Modes?: Duo Merge Modes are a unique form of Merge Mode where Fusion-X transforms into two Merge Modes at once, Duo Merge Modes possess powers and abilities that compliment each other and they work together to take full advantage of their abilities and fight the forces of evil as an unstoppable, dynamic duo. Fusion-X transforms into a Duo Merge Mode by splitting into two for a split second and then transforming into said Duo. Because Duo Merge Modes are comprised of two entities, Nicholas and Alloy both control their own halves of the Duo themselves. Duo Merge Modes are compatible with Plus Mode and Armament functionalities as they are considered regular Merge Modes, albeit with a unique twist that makes them stand out. Duo Merge Modes were unlocked by Fusion-X’s future counterpart, Fusion-MX who gave Fusion-X access to them as a “thank you” for helping him during the events of the Fractured Future storyline as well as a way of helping build a stronger bond between Nicholas and Alloy.
- Drawbacks:
- - Cooperation: The most vital component needed to make Nicholas and Alloy truly excel as a Duo Merge is of course, teamwork. If Nicholas and Alloy find difficulties in working together or strategically synchronizing their respective Duo Merges and their abilities, their performance in battle will suffer tremendously.
- - Separation: If the two halves of a Duo Merge are more than twelve feet away from each other for more than a few minutes, Nicholas and Alloy will both become intensely disoriented, suffering from a loss of balance, vertigo, weakness and confusion and their respective powers will become considerably weakened as well due to their loosened bond with each other, after a few more minutes their bond will become so weak that Nicholas and Alloy will revert back to their original selves.
- - Xros Merge Incompatibility: Duo Merges cannot be combined with other Merge Modes via the Xros Merge function.
- List of Duo Merge Modes:
- Brains & Brawn Duo Merge - Brains Merge is a small but very intelligent Merge Mode based on Grey Matter from Ben 10 while Brawn Merge is a hulking, muscular gorilla-like Merge Mode reminiscent of King Kong that is around twenty feet tall. Brains & Brawn Merge work together with Brains acting as the strategic and analytical one that guides Brawn while Brawn is the strong one who does all the heavy lifting and physical combat who can also grow an additional layer of dermal armor around himself for increased durability at will. Although Brains is one of Fusion-X’s most intelligent Merge Modes to date, he is very weak and can’t fight on his own and although Brawn is extremely strong and durable, he’s not very smart or strategic and tends to solve problems by punching them. Brains can also project a holographic display of the strategy he’s currently formulating to give Brawn Merge a better idea of what to do as he’s explaining it.
- Cloak & Dagger Duo Merge - This Duo Merge has the powers of Shadow and Light Manipulation respectively. Cloak Merge is a towering and intimidating Merge Mode resembling a living, shadowy cloak with a head resembling the skull of a bird capable of manipulating shadows and pure darkness such as creating tendrils of shadows to manipulate objects, creating barriers/walls of darkness, blending in with the shadows, making the area around himself darker etc. while Dagger Merge is a small, fairy/angel-like Merge Mode capable of creating and projecting daggers of pure solidified light as well as controlling light in other ways such as creating “Flash Bangs”, balls of light that burst in a bright flash to temporarily blind enemies. Cloak Merge acts as a guardian to Dagger Merge, hiding her in his cloak-like body to then surprise attack enemies by opening himself up and having Dagger release a flurry of Light Daggers at them. Cloak Merge cannot attack enemies directly, possessing very low strength and relies on Dagger to do most of the fighting while Dagger is very frail and physically weak and depends on Cloak to protect her and keep her hidden. One considerable drawback is that Cloak and Dagger Merge are actually weak to each other’s elements if there is a large quantity of light/darkness in their area.
- Crash & Burn Duo Merge - Crash Merge resembles a muscular, humanoid hammerhead shark who uses said hammer-like head to deliver devastating headbutt, head smash and charge attacks while Burn Merge is a small, impish Merge Mode with large horns made entirely out of fiery plasma energy capable of burning/melting through all forms of defenses with his red hot plasma attacks. Crash & Burn Mode work best with Burn Mode melting away an enemy’s defenses and then Crash Mode charging in at full force to finish them off. Crash Mode is a very fast Merge Mode, capable of running at speeds of 300 MPH to deliver his powerful charge and headbutt attacks and Burn Mode is quite fast as well capable of flying and zipping through his environment at speeds of 200 MPH and can project a multitude of different Plasma Attacks to do some serious damage such as balls, beams, a Plasma Breath attack and even releasing a “Solar Flare” in a wide area around himself.
- Seek & Destroy Duo Merge - Seek Merge slightly resembles a Beholder from Dungeons & Dragons, being a massive floating eye with dozens of tentacle-like stalks, each one with it’s own eye at the tips while Destroy Mode is a robotic humanoid Merge Mode with the traits and attributes of a fighter jet, having wings with jet turbines mounted on his shoulders and a whole arsenal of guns and missile launchers built into his body. Seek Mode has the power of Lock-On Tracking, by using one of his many eyes, Seek Merge can lock onto multiple targets at once and will be able to track them wherever they go, always knowing where they are, meanwhile Destroy Mode is a Living Arsenal capable of blasting foes with his many machine guns, missile launchers and launch-able jet-powered fists and is always able to give chase and catch up to most enemies, being able to fly at Mach 3 with ease. Also, once Seek Mode has locked onto a target, all of Destroy Mode’s projectiles will be able to track and home in on those targets, becoming never-missing projectiles that won’t stop chasing their targets until they’ve landed a hit! Plus, with Seek Mode capable of always knowing a target’s location once locking onto them, he’ll be able to guide Destroy Mode to them where he’ll be able to travel to their location in record time thanks to his incredible speed and agility and if Destroy Mode doesn’t get to them, his bullets/missiles/fists will!
- Hack & Slash Duo Merge - Hack & Slash is a Duo Merge consisting of Hack Merge, a big, fat blob similar to Swalot from Pokémon in appearance with a green and purple color scheme and Slash Merge, who lives inside of Hack Mode’s digestive track and takes the form of a long, serpentine insectoid creature resembling a mix between a centipede and a tapeworm who is covered in very sharp blades including a pair of very large, bladed mandibles. Hack Merge is capable of swallowing and digesting virtually anything, can project extremely toxic gas and streams of powerful stomach acid from his mouth and his thick, blobby body gives him a great deal of durability and endurance but he moves at a snail’s pace, meanwhile Slash Merge is blindingly fast, capable of springing from Hack’s mouth and extend several feet in length to slash apart anything in his path into ribbons before you can even react, Slash can also grab an object with his mandibles or by wrapping himself around said object to “reel” it in so that Hack can devour it, but he’s also exceptionally frail and depends on Hack Merge for protection. Due to having the same name, you may have to rename the previously made Slash Mode to Slasher, Blade or Cutter Mode.
- Cat & Mouse Duo Merge - Cat & Mouse is a Duo Merge based on Tom & Jerry with the powers of Cartoon Physics. Cat & Mouse Merge resemble a cartoonish, humanoid cat and mouse respectively with black and white color schemes, a reference to black & white, rubberhose-era cartoons. Much like Cartoon Merge, Cat & Mouse Merge is capable of interacting with the world and each other as if they were in a cartoon, having no regard for the laws of physics and being incapable of harm, as well as possessing many unique powers and traits such as elasticity. Cat & Mouse Merge operate on a unique form of combat where instead of directly fighting enemies, they instead constantly fight and chase each other in a game of cat and mouse, the results of their cartoon antics indirectly harming or otherwise inconveniencing their enemies, often causing chaotic chain reactions in their environment during their “routines”. Cat & Mouse Merge must never directly fight a foe or else they’ll temporarily lose their Toon Force powers until they can go back to fighting each other. Cat & Mouse Merge are capable of summoning virtually any kind of object or weapon out of thin air to use against each other whether it be something like a slingshot and a frying pan or a sword and shotgun. Due to the nature of their toon-like physiologies, Cat & Mouse cannot be harmed in the traditional sense by enemies or each other, capable of being crushed, squashed, shot, blown up etc. and able to walk it off.
- Rock & Roll Duo Merge - This Duo Merge is compromised of Rock Merge, a Merge Mode resembling a massive boulder with Fusion-X’s eye and a wide mouth filled with rocky teeth similar to what Gravattack’s mouth looks like and Roll Merge, a Merge Mode resembling a humanoid Dung Beetle. Roll Mode uses his powerful hind legs to roll Rock Mode around in a similar fashion to an actual dung beetle, steamrolling and crushing anything in their way at great speeds and as a bonus, Rock Merge can consume rocks and other mineral materials to add to his form and grow larger, becoming an immense and equally heavy boulder capable of crushing anything in his way and all without hindering Roll Mode’s ability to push and roll him around. Rock Mode is incapable of moving by himself and thus needs Roll Mode to be mobile.
- Trick & Treat Duo Merge - This Duo Merge is comprised of two small, ghostly Merge Modes with a trick or treating theme, Trick Merge resembles a burlap-styled ghost similar to Candlejack carrying a bag filled with deadly tricks while Treat is a pumpkin-headed ghost wearing a witch’s hat and carrying a bag of candy with esoteric properties. Trick Merge is the offensive one of the group who attacks enemies with an arsenal of tricks that he keeps in his sack ranging from somewhat harmless ones like rotten egg bombs to very dangerous ones such as bear traps and caltrops while Treat is the defensive one who plays a support role, using a bag full of special candy that bestow unique properties when consumed such as a healing candy, an attack boosting candy, a speed boosting candy, a size increasing candy, candy that makes the consumer invisible etc. Trick and Treat are both capable of freely flying around their environment.
- Yin & Yang Merge - This Duo Merge Mode consists of two Merge Modes highly resembling Base Mode Fusion-X with black and white color schemes, a Kung Fu theme and the Yin-Yang symbol on their chests, Yin Merge is the thinner one while Yang Merge is very muscular looking. Yin & Yang Merge have the power of Yin-Yang Manipulation, Yin capable of manipulating Yin or “Positive” Energy while Yang can manipulate Yang or “Negative” Energy, Yin & Yang Merge can manipulate their respective energies in many ways, such as projecting them in a wide variety of energy attacks, energy-enhanced physical combat, forming constructs & weaponry out of Yin & Yang energy, augmenting their senses, utilize Yin & Yang energy to use Ergo-Telekinesis, altering their surrounding environment using Yin & Yang energy etc. Yin & Yang are also highly proficient in using Kung Fu, Yin Merge specializing in Snake Style and Yang Merge in Tiger Style, Yin Merge being the quick, nimble yet frail fighter while Yang is the strong, brutal yet slow one, Yin & Yang Merge excel in cooperating with each other in combat, their conflicting energies coming together to create Balance in it’s purest form and combining their respective fighting styles, Yin Merge using his lightning fast strikes to wear enemies down so that Yang Merge can finish them off with his ultra powerful strikes.
- Nutz & Boltz Merge - This Duo Merge Mode consists of a Dwarf-like Merge Mode with mastery of Blacksmithing and Engineering named Nutz and a mighty, mechanized golem named Boltz. This Duo Merge operates by having Boltz be the main method of battling evil while Nutz acts as a support. Nutz Merge, possessing masterful knowledge of blacksmithing, engineering and inventing, and utilizing a high-tech multi-tool Wrench is capable of upgrading Boltz in record to give him extra armor, additional weapons, repair him he needs to etc. Nuts Merge can even ride inside of Boltz like a mech suit for protection and to upgrade and work on him while Boltz does the heavy lifting in battle. Boltz Merge is a towering Merge Mode, being thirty foot tall and is very powerful and durable even for his size, he also has extending arms, an arsenal of guns and cannon in his body and can core lasers from his eyes but as stated before, Boltz can gain new weapons and stronger versions of his current weapons by having Nutz work on him.
- Cut & Paste Mode - This Duo Merge Mode has the power of Scissor Mimicry (Cut) and Slime Mimicry (Paste). This Duo consists of Cut, a tall and thin, metallic female humanoid with long, scissor-like fingers, legs resembling the blades of scissors and Fusion-X’s visor-like eye and Paste, a small, teardrop shaped slimeball with green eyes and Kirby-like feet. Cut & Paste fight together by inhibiting enemy movement and cutting them down to size, Paste can generate super sticky slime, throw balls of slime, generates trails of slime, roll balls of slime like bowling balls and even use his own sticky slime body to inhibit enemies such as sticking them to surfaces or slowing them down, from there, Cut will use her incredibly sharp, scissor-like hands and legs and exceptional swiftness and speed to cut enemies into ribbons, either by using her claws or transforming her hands into giant pairs of scissors for increased range and cutting speed and using slicing and piercing kick and leg based attacks with her bladed legs that she can also turn into a giant pair of scissors as well. Cut can even use Paste like a weapon, such as a slimy whip or slingshotting him like a projectile. Paste can also highly disorientate enemies by shooting slime into an enemy’s eyes, his slime causing an intense burning and stinging sensation when making contact with eyes. Cut is incredibly fast, being able to run at speeds of 260 MPH and moving/acting faster than the blink of an eye.
- Roll & Tackle Mode - This Duo Merge Mode has the powers of Bouncy Ball Mimicry & Cooperative Combat. Roll & Tackle Mode are based on Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum from Alice in Wonderland, being a duo of identical looking, short and fat humanoids with thin limbs, red skin and yellow stripes on their round bodies, wide smiling mouths and beanies with small propellers on their heads. Roll & Tackle Merge are made out of a super bouncy, rubber-like polymer that allows them to bounce around their environment and off each other like living bouncy balls and build up momentum with every bounce, making them bounce faster and hit enemies harder, allowing Roll & Tackle Merge to fight enemies in a wild and unpredictable manner while working together in combat such as slamming enemies in between themselves, belly bumping and butt slamming enemies, throwing each other around, rolling around and slamming into groups of enemies like bowling balls, bouncing the other towards and enemy at high speeds etc. Roll & Tackle fight using a chaotic and unpredictable fighting style that uses a lot of belly bumps, shoulder charges, hip checks, body slams, full body tackles and headbutts and their heavy weights allow them to hit hard, especially when bouncing at sufficient speeds. Despite their heavy weights and rotund physiques, Roll & Tackle are very acrobatic, having a great deal of swiftness and grace in the air that surpasses even the most well trained of acrobats and trapeze artists. Roll & Tackle are immune to electricity and electrical attacks. Much like the characters they’re based on, Roll & Tackle Merge tend to finish each others sentences.
- Bait & Switch Mode - This Duo Merge Mode consists of a fisherman (Bait) and his giant pet sea slug (Switch). Bait Merge resembles Fusion-X as a burly fisherman with a beard and dressed in a yellow rain jacket with a rain hat and boots, wielding a high-tech looking fishing rod and Switch Merge resembles a giant nudibranch sea slug with long antenna and an orchid and maroon color scheme. Bait Merge is capable of using his fishing pole as a weapon with masterful skill, using it to tether/grapple enemies, swing enemies around, catch and reel in objects, perform cutting/slashing attacks with the rod’s hook, use the fishing pole as a melee weapon etc. said fishing pole is equipped with hundreds of feet of an unbreakable tether that allows Bait Merge to reel in objects weighing in at over a ton and Bait Merge possesses the sufficient amount of strength to reel in such objects. Switch Merge looks harmless enough until it’s time to attack, Switch Merge possesses a massive maw that encompasses most of his body, said maw has many rows of xtremely sharp teeth and two different kinds of saliva, these being highly acidic saliva that breaks down anything Switch Merge chomps down on and saliva with powerful healing properties capable of healing any wound, Bait & Switch Mode’s main method of combat is Bait Merge reeling enemies closer for Switch Merge to attack with his powerful bite and acidic saliva. Switch Merge can use his healing saliva to heal allies and Bait Merge as well.
- Doom & Gloom Mode - This Duo Merge Mode has the powers of Fungal Symbiosis and Slime Mold Manipulation. Doom & Gloom Merge is a Duo Merge composed of Doom, a hulking, armored being baring a slight resemblance to The Merciless from DC Comics but made entirely out of wood/bark with large branches for antlers/horns with mushrooms and slime mold growing all over his body and Gloom, a small fungal entity with a body composed of sticky slime mold with pseudopod arms and a head resembling a mushroom cap, the mushrooms growing on Doom’s body being a part of Gloom’s body as well. Doom & Gloom Merge fight together as a symbiotic being, Doom using his overwhelming strength, ferocity and combat prowess and Gloom using her control over slime mold for defensive purposes, Gloom can create and control massive amounts of slime mold and fungus to create shields/walls/barriers, create slime mold tendrils to grapple enemies closer for Doom to lay a beat down on them, give Doom’s body adhesive qualities to prevent enemies from escaping, form sticky slime mold on the ground to slow down and trap enemies, construct Fungal Armor to increase Doom’s defenses and even create weaponry and constructs out of slime mold and fungus for Doom to use in combat. Despite his incredible strength, Doom is somewhat dim witted and relies on Gloom to point him in certain directions and act as the strategic one of the duo while Gloom heavily lacks in combat skill due to her small size and lack of physical strength and relies on Doom to literally do the heavy lifting. Doom is surprisingly fast for his towering stature and hulking physique and can jump/leap impressive distances as well. The spores present in Gloom’s slime mold and body can cause severe allergic reactions with prolonged exposure which can greatly hinder an enemy’s concentration in combat as a result.
- Punch & Judy Mode - Duo/Weaponry - This Duo Merge Mode consists of a flying jester-like ghost (Judy) who wields a living baseball bat as a weapon and partner (Punch). Punch Merge is a sentient, purple baseball bat with a wide mouth full of sharp teeth with an orchid purple eye and a pair of small, devil-like horns, Punch Merge is wielded by Judy Merge, a ghostly, jester/harlequin-like female Merge Mode with a long, Pearl-like nose (Pearl from Steven Universe), a black and orange color scheme, a striped jester’s hat and a cloak-like body. Judy Merge possesses exceptional skill in using baseball bats as weapons and wields the living, indestructible baseball bat, Punch Merge as a result, possessing excellent skill in deflecting projectiles, especially orb-shaped ones by using Punch Merge, batting them like baseballs back at opponents. Judy Merge also has access to a collection of Juggling Balls that Judy Merge can bat at opponents, said balls moving at such speeds that they catch on fire before exploding after hitting their target. On top of doing some serious damage as an indestructible blunt weapon, Punch Merge is also capable of biting opponents with his powerful jaws and sharp metal teeth as well. Judy Merge is capable of Flight, naturally. Punch & Judy Merge are named after Punch & Judy a duo of hand puppet characters originating from 16th Century Italy.
- Sweet & Sour Mode - Duo/Dragon - This Duo of Dragons possess Pyrotechnic Attacks. This Duo Merge consists of two flightless, Chinese Dragons around the size of large dogs, one male and one female with globes on the tip of their tails resembling paper lanterns. Sweet & Sour Merge are capable of expelling colorful, explosive flames in a similar fashion to fireworks from their mouths in different ways such as beams, balls, bullets, spinning & exploding rings, short ranged bursts etc. Sweet & Sour Merge are also capable of deploying Lantern Bombs from their tails, floating, pyrotechnic proximity bombs resembling Chinese Paper Lanterns that explode in very powerful, pyrotechnic explosions when at close proximity, Sweet & Sour are capable of deploying one Lantern Bomb each until the one they deployed explodes, a new one growing from their tail once they do. Sweet & Sour Merge possess Explosive Bites as well. Sweet & Sour Merge also possess sharp back spines that can do some serious damage by executing blindingly fast, Spin Dash attacks. Sweet & Sour are named after Sweet & Sour sauce.

- How would you describe nicholas and alloy's relationship from the beginning to the current story?

- I find their relationship to be quite similar to Ben and Rook’s and Alloy’s curiosity and analytical personality combined with Nicholas’ short temper make them the comedic duo for the ages but overtime they’ve become a great team due to their shared desire to do good even if they don’t see eye to eye sometimes. It helps that they work together as a combined entity in the form of Fusion-X but Duo Merges test their cooperation skills as separate beings that share a bond.

- Duo Merge’s names are plays on phrases that are composed of two words like the phrase “Cloak and Dagger” means to obscure someones senses and attack suddenly. Another tip in creating Duo Merges is to think how the duo’s respective powers would compliment each other and how they would fight together as a team as a result.
