Reasoning:
1. Aretain had managed to summon his keyblade, but despite that, found himself utterly overwhelmed by the werewolf known as Gousen, even finding in the battle that he was still the one most lacking among his allies.
2.  Aretain knows that in order to reach his goal of becoming a worthy and formidable knight, he has to grow strong AND learn to better utilize his keyblade and unlock its powers.
3.  With the ever looming threat of the dark denizens of Dragon/Demon Island at this point, he knows he can't afford to let up in his own self improvement.
4.   To protect himself, his friends, to be a true knight, and to further the legacy of the Valorcall name.
