12 hour speedrunning challenge by Golden

My game of choice for this challenge was Dragon Warrior Monsters on GBC (aka Dragon Quest Monsters in other parts of the world).
Since I don't have the time to stream for 12 hours, I'll try to split it up into a 6 hour practice stream, one short break and a no reset run at the end. The game is quite difficult on its own and features some RNG dependent fights which means I might play it a bit save to avoid tons of resets.

I'll use tonic's run as a general guide while practising different parts of the route and then take my own notes as I go (I won't be able to mentally prepare for all of the different scenarios that can occur in runs but I need something to start with in the first place.)

Shoutouts to everyone who put effort into optimizing this game. My goal is to get a sub 4 run but I have no clue how long it will actually take. I have played the game before, yet never in a speedrunning way so it will be a somewhat blind speedrun.

F.A.Q.:

Q: Is this game identical to Dragon Quest Monsters?
A: It should be identical in terms of gameplay, the languages however will be different. There are also releases on other handhelds but I'm playing the one for GBC.

Q: Have you played this game before?
A: I played it roughly 15 years ago and I enjoyed it a lot.

Q: Why are you so bad at this game? Don't you remember anything?
A: Since I only played the game on another language, most items, attacks and monsters have different names which I need to get used to. General gameplay and level design should still be somewhat okay.

Q: What's WR?
A: The record both in terms of execution and RTA is held by a Japanese runner who goes by the name of Itteru. According to Tonic, his time is sub 2 hours. There are two different timing methods I haven't completely figured out, yet. Japanese timing is somewhat at the end of the credits (I'll hopefully understand the difference by the end of the day).

Q: What's your final party?
A: I'll most likely go for the composition listed in the SDA forum thread above (http://bombch.us/vCr) which is two WhipBirds and a Mimic.

Q: What are you playing on?
A: I'm using bgb (GBC emulator) with an N64 controller as my input device :D

Huge shoutouts to everyone at #dragonquest! They helped me a lot to gather information and gave me valuable tipps. Watching Tonic's run was probably the reason why I wanted to pick up this speedgame in the first place and finally shoutouts to Bloodymary who is one of the few active DQM runners on twitch.
