  2. 'I believe the sale of the city is a foregone conclusion. It should be allowed to proceed without further bloodshed. The question I need to answer, though, is how the Great Khan can trust the Emissary?'

  7. 'I will tell you how I trust him,' cried the Khan. 'I have seen the other future with my own eyes! He is a far more powerful shaman than any I have met. He gave me wine to drink, and I saw it all! He will do the same for you...'

  9. 'I dreamed of a room, deep in the Palace. The royal family were there, but I saw no sign of the Interpreter. The Princess was weeping; the Emperor was buckling on armour... The roar of flames was deep and awful. I asked a servant why we were there, and she told me. 'The forces from Cathay have besieged the city, and we didn't have time to get out,' she said. 'The Emperor's nephew leads their army.'

  11. This dream was the one I only had once, but I made sure to write it down even though I didn't know its significance until The Cloaked Emissary visited me the next morning. He whispered near my ear. 'There are worse fates for a City than selling it to the Bazaar,' he said.
