The light began billowing outwards, filling the area completely with golden brilliance and all Grace could hear
was the Cloister Bell, ringing incessantly in her ears.

For a brief moment, she thought she could see her mother, smiling, waving to her.

Grace’s hands were glowing with the light, and she suddenly felt the pain in her chest fade, and her energy begin to return.

The light faded from the cathedral walls and floor and she blinked a few times to clear her vision.

She realised the Doctor was hugging her tightly and she could feel his breath on her neck, smell his hair. She tapped his shoulder and, grinning, he pulled back.

‘Hello,’ he said.

‘Hi,’ she replied. ‘Is that it?’

‘That is a powerful force, the Eye of Harmony. Normally, any non-Time Lords should have been totally vapourised. You two did something I’ve never done.’

‘What’s that?’

‘You cheated death. How does that feel?’
