I actually have a semi-related question: Where the hell did people find the things we commonly use in speedrunning? A few examples:

Amarec - A barely function japanese language program that probably doesn't show up in the first 100 pages of English google unless you specifically search for it. Responsible for more blue screens than Windows ME.

Ez(Housefire)Cap  - obscure 7 dollar knockoff of a what, 30 dollar obscure card? I honestly don't know how these things are even legal to sell in first world countries.  Responsible for more property damage than Hurricane Katrina.

Gameshark PRO 3.2 - maybe not as obscure, but is there really not a better alternative in 2015?  Literally takes ten thousand attempts to get it to turn on for one game play session, and you better hope that you didn't select the wrong practice cheats and have to reset. Responsible for more completely wasted time than speedrunning itself.
