  1. I am considering going dark on social media. I'll still speedrun games and all that good stuff, but I'm considering distancing myself from social media for while. How long I'll be gone, should I choose to leave, will be a week (maybe more), just to give myself time to calm down.
  2.
  3. Why is that?
  4. It's because of recent drama in the speedrunning community centering around a famous speedrunner named Caleb Hart. If you don't know what the drama is about, the short-form explanation of the situation is he, on his stream, accidentally showed a message between him and a friend on Discord, where he had typed the n-word. Caleb, as well as his discord, was also ousted for posting discord messages that err on the side of transphobic and anti-LGBT in general.
  5.
  6. What are my feelings on these issues?
  7. Caleb did some horrible things that were not too great. I can forgive him for the n-word part of this whole issue, given the seemingly non-malicious intent behind his usage of it. However, the transphobic comments are something I can't excuse, given the fact that I'm an LGBT ally. My main hope for Caleb is that he can grow out of this and get rid of his anti-LGBT ways, and then try to (truthfully, without deceit) regain the trust of people that he ended up betraying as a result of this.

  9. What about this bout of drama, specifically, makes me want to leave social media for a week or two?
  10. It's the fighting I see between people on both sides of the issue. People are 100% in the right to be furious about this issue, given what I stated before about the horrible anti-LGBT comments. Believe me when I say that I was mad myself when I looked at the anti-LGBT discord messages in question. However, the previously mentioned fighting, and resultant sneering comments, gives me great emotional distress. For one, it's because I don't like seeing people dogpile one another like this. Second, I fear that my own take on this, as described above, would be taken by others as lukewarm at best, causing people to come after me and lump me in with the people that endorse Caleb's anti-LGBT discord messages, when I actually don't endorse the messages at all. For those that are LGBT that happen to be reading this, I am willing to legitimately and truthfully prove to you that I do not support what Caleb Hart and his discord said. Seeing all this fighting surrounding the Caleb situation, and my previously mentioned fear, would likely make me very uncomfortable around any speedrunner I happen to talk to, both in Discord and at in-person speedrunning events. It is for that reason that I plan to go dark on social media for a while.
