  1. I recently asked a Russian friend of mine what the situation is over there when people pay off ransomware or get scammed in any other way. Is there a chance to get your money back?

  5. "Not 0%, but incredibly low chance. There’s still no clear laws to protect bank customers in such cases. That’s supposed to change in coming years, but not yet. First of all, it’s entirely up to you to prove the fact of unauthorized fund withdrawal, which is already hard enough. You can enlist police for help. The bank will conduct an investigation, which will take minimum of 3 months. If there’s no clear and explicit proof that the money was taken without your consent (which is always a case), the bank won’t refund anything. You can then try and resolve this in court, but that also have a low chance of success. In the end, you must prove it wasn’t you who “stole” your own money. I’ve read quite a few stories of bank scam here, and none of them ended without money loss on part of a victim."
