-
January Fourth Nineteen Ninety Four —
-
Christmas gifts kept coming for the Hopkins family when Jessica came screaming into the world. She was adored by her mother from the start, and Jess felt like she had the world with her parents. Her mother was the chief surgeon at John Hopkins Hospital and her father was a lawyer, both on the board at the hospital. Being a trust fund baby came with its faults, but also it's perks. Jess had tutors, music lessons, home and online schooling. She fell in love with places like California, Japan, Italy, Europe.

-
But when they finally settled down, that's where Jess truly found her passion for the military. She had dabbled with the idea all through high school, even talking to several recruiters before she had gotten to the age to submit her application. But when she finally turned seventeen, she graduated high school with her exceptional grades. And finally chose to join the Navy. Her love for the water and for her country had her forging her parents signature and she enlisted almost the next day after she got her diploma. And never looked back at New York, for fear she'd regret her decision.

-
A few years into the military and Jess was a Navy medic, working on her degree for medical school while tending to the wounded in the infirmary. That's where her life turned upside down when she met Mikhail Tsarev. He was a force to be reckoned with and he emanated a dangerous air about him that commanded the attention of any room he was in. When he came in to get checked, he was more injured than he thought and he spent days with her in the infirmary. During this time, they got extremely close and one thing led to another. They had an affair and Jess, being a stupid girl in uniform, felt herself starting to fall for him. But he left without a word to advance his career and she never heard from him again.

-
Jessie completed eight strong years with the military, and she loved every second of it. She felt like she had finally found her place and calling. But fate had other ideas. During a recon mission with the Marines, she was instructed to be their medic for the mission. When they were going to rush enemy lines, an IED exploded and the next thing Jess knew, she was waking up in a bed in the military infirmary. Her left leg was missing from the knee down and shortly after, she was medically discharged from the Navy.

-
Having no choice, she went home with her tail tucked between her legs. Her daddy wanted to brush everything under the rug and shipped Jessie off to California to their best physical rehab facility. She spiraled into a deep depression but somehow managed to get her out. She’s now twenty seven, living in San Clemente and working as a trauma physician at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. She's also a proud advocate for the less fortunate who are also amputees, wanting to show anyone that they can accomplish whatever they set their hearts on.
