The Cloaked Emissary backed me into a corner. 'The city will betray you, even as you defend its foundation,' he hissed. 'But I can help you.'

'Conundrum. Cloaked Emissary hustled me out of the Palace. Said I have to help him convince the Khan to sell him the city in exchange for the Princess' happiness...'

When they arrived, he said, the Khan would not hesitate to sell me to his enemies - the only way to save myself was to throw my lot in with him.
