- As the title of the pastebin implies, this pastebin is about a diagnosis I got recently. It's a very benign condition, but I wanted to talk about because it will affect my content and lifestyle for reasons I'll explain later.
- The condition I have is something called a pilonidal cyst. To explain it in simple terms for those that don't know what it is, it's a bump on/near my tailbone that looks a lot like a zit or pimple you might see elsewhere on your body, but it oozes fluids such as blood and pus when pressure is put on it.
- What's annoying about the fluids draining like they do is that the fluids staining my clothes is practically unavoidable, given my hobbies (and future jobs) will require me to sit a lot, which puts pressure on that area.
- Speaking of sitting, me sitting a lot is pretty much the entire reason this cyst came about. I've been playing video games actively since I was around 12 years old. What actually causes the cyst I have is persistently applied pressure to the area of the cyst that forces hair to collect there and cause an inflammatory reaction that then causes the cyst. Obviously, gaming involves a lot of sitting, so it's suspected now that me sitting a majority of the day gaming is what caused this.
- So what does that mean for my content?
- The main thing is that gaming, at least while sitting down, is out of the question unless I'm doing it for a session of around 2-3 hours at the very most, because continuing my sitting habits could cause the cyst to resurface and be gigantic pain in the ass with it staining my clothes and sometimes feeling sore and uncomfortable. This doesn't rule out playing games period, or doing my longer speedruns/casual gaming sessions, it just means I have to adjust to standing up while doing it.
- There's a few things my family and I have already done to adjust to living with my cyst. It's infected now because I initially brushed the cyst off as a minor problem until I found out it was actually a cyst, so I will have to get it removed through surgery, which I have scheduled for the 22nd of July. My parents and I also went on eBay and Amazon and found a stand-up desk, so I can work and play on my computer while still allowing for my cyst to heal after the surgery is done.
