         ⇢ rachel do was born in suwon, south korea under circumstances that weren’t necessarily the safest. her birth was supervised by her biological grandmother, who despite having wisdom from age, had no medical background whatsoever. the situation didn’t seem to be helped by the fact that her biological mother, eunbyeol, was only sixteen at the time. nonetheless, the arrival of rachel was successful with very few complications. however, several disputes in regards to the newborn’s future would soon come. every single one of eunbyeol’s relatives that knew about the pregnancy had their own separate opinions about what she should do with the child. but despite all of this, the final decision was up to eunbyeol. after three days with the newborn, the young girl eventually decided to follow the advice that a close friend had given her and give the child up for adoption, ultimately going against the wishes of many of her family members. the blatant defiance hardly fazed eunbyeol, as she was more concerned with the well-being of her child that she was more-than-certain that she would be unable to provide. this desicion proved to be a good one, seeing as eunbyeol’s child was taken in by a korean-american couple shortly after she was put up for adoption. the child was given the english name rachel by her adoptive parents, but her korean name, yoonji, which was given to her at birth, remained. however, a slight animosity towards her biological mother left rachel with a dislike for the name yoonji.

to be frank, rachel’s upbringing was nothing short of amazing. her parents were well-off, and had an undeniable amount of love for the girl. at times, she wondered if this incredible treatment was a result of guilt or pity towards her previous circumstances, but these thoughts often left her mind as fast as they came. as far as the topic of her birth went, her parents were very honest with her, wanting her to be knowledgeable about it, yet not wanting it to define her. as a result, rachel has become surprisingly comfortable with talking about her being adopted, sometimes making jokes about it. however, she makes it very clear that she has no interest in reconnecting with her biological mother, seemingly having a strong hostility towards the woman.

in school, rachel did fairly well, earning a decent grade point average.
