  1. Welcome to the [EvE Online](http://eveonline.com) Shipfitting Subreddit!
  2.
  3. ### Posting
  4.
  5. We have a few tags we use for posts:
  6.
  7. * **[F]**: Fitting posts. You have a fit that you would
  8. like to show the community. [F] posts get the most views
  9. on gonewild, so...yeah.
  10.
  11. * **[R]**: Request posts.You need a fit. Please do look
  12. through the /r/fittings archive first to see if your
  13. question has been answered: this happens a lot.
  14.
  15. * **Ends with a question mark**: For general questions about
  16. fitting, for example "How do I learn how to fit?"
  17.
  18. If your post does not fit one of these categories, please
  19. think carefully about whether it's about EvE fittings.
  20.
  21. Please be as clear as possible about the purpose and
  22. requirements of posted and requested fittings. "I need a
  23. ship for PvE" or "How is this PvP Fit?" are not good, since
  24. we'll have to ask a million questions to get started. Useful
  25. information:
  26.
  27. * Purpose of fit.
  28. * PvP *vs* PvE:
  29. * For PvP, solo *vs* small-gang *vs* fleet.
  30. * For PvE, ratting *vs* missioning *vs* explo *etc.*
  31. * Region: High-sec, Low-sec, Null-sec, WH.
  32. * Budget / cost.
  33.
  34. ### Formatting
  35.
  36. We prefer that you post fits here in EFT format. **Insert
  37. four spaces before each line of a fit** to make it
  38. readable.
  39.
  40. If you think your posted fit is something that might be
  41. generally useful long-term, please also include an Osmium
  42. link to your fit (see below) and tag the fit with
  43. `reddit-fittings` in Osmium. Better yet, once you've posted,
  44. edit the metadata in Osmium to include a link back to the
  45. relevant Reddit post.
  46.
  47. ### Tools
  48.
  49. There are a wealth of excellent third-party tools for
  50. fitting EvE spaceships. It goes without saying that fitting
  51. using one of these, rather than trying things in-game, will
  52. save you ISK, time and grief.
  53.
  54. * [Osmium](http://o.smium.org) is an awesome web-based
  55. fitting tool and library (replacing the now-defunct
  56. Battleclinic). It is our preferred tool for sharing fits
  57. in /r/fittings, and has good support for building new
  58. fits.
  59.
  60. * [Pyfa](http://github.com/pyfa-org/Pyfa) is a highly
  61. capable and well-maintained cross-platform open source
  62. Python fitting tool. It can interact with CREST for
  63. in-game fittings management.
  64.
  65. * [EFT](http://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=24359)
  66. is a maintained fitting tool available as a Windows
  67. binary.
  68.
  69. As mentioned above, we use the EFT fitting format for text
  70. representation of fittings. All of the standard tools
  71. produce and consume EFT format, including the EvE client
  72. itself.
  73.
  74. ### Finding Fits
  75.
  76. The archives of /r/fittings are a reasonable place to start
  77. looking for fits. Failing that:
  78.
  79. * [EvE University](http://wiki.eveuniversity.org) has
  80. suggested fits for every ship in the game. While they are
  81. often old and not occasionally sub-par, they are at least
  82. a good starting point. Their
  83. [Fleet Doctrine](http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Category:Doctrines)
  84. fits are mostly current and reasonable.
  85.
  86. * Osmium has quite a lot of fits. They largely lack
  87. discussion and are unedited: *caveat emptor.* Search for
  88. fits
  89. [tagged `reddit-fittings`](http://o.smium.org/search?q=%40tags+reddit-fittings)
  90. for stuff from here.
  91.
  92. * For ratting (especially semi-AFK) and missioning a drone
  93. boat is often a good choice. Here's some Osmium example
  94. fits:
  95.
  96. * [Vexor](http://o.smium.org/loadout/101336) Passive Shield
  97. * [Vexor Navy Issue](http://o.smium.org/loadout/101260)
  98. Passive Shield
  99. * [Dominix](http://o.smium.org/loadout/102662) Active Armor
  100. * [Ishtar](http://o.smium.org/loadout/102667) Active Shield
  101. * [Rattlesnake](http://o.smium.org/loadout/102761) Active Shield
  102.
  103. * For exploration, it's all about the frigates for the most part.
  104. Here's some Osmium example fits:
  105.
  106. * [Imicus](https://o.smium.org/loadout/102801): Super-cheap minimal skill
  107. high-sec practice ship.
  108. * [Helios](http://o.smium.org/loadout/102798): Medium skill + price for
  109. null-sec and wormhole pirate sites.
  110.
  111. ---
  112.
  113. If your post hits the spam filter, or you see anyone being a
  114. tool and/or breaking the rules, feel free to mail the mods!
  115. Let us know how we can help.
