''An interesting party. Something strange going on with the drinks. Sure one of the trays did not contain drinks from the fountain - quite the wrong colour...'

I nudged the Interpreter, and she purloined one of the cups. We retired outside to investigate it.

'Yes!' she said, her eyes bright. 'There is brandy in here, I am sure of it. Did the pipes get crossed? Or did someone do this deliberately?'

I asked her what she meant. 'You know,' she said. 'The Princess's brandy! She must be ready to have people try it. Taste it.' It was like honey and roses and cream and amber and gold. The rich scent of peaches was overwhelming. It lit such a fever of joy in my mind that I did not sleep that night.
