  1. Hi this is just a small pastebin I'm making for myself and friends who are interested in the version differences between Dragon Quest XI for the 3DS and PS4(I'll add Switch later if there is any differences between PS4 and Switch)
  2.
  3. Summary: I'll go ahead and list the differences below but I just want to throw my chatter/2cents in here before I do that. I think that if you're a fan of the series you should definitely consider getting the 3DS Version over the PS4 version or get both, If you're a new fan looking to get into the series I would suggest getting the PS4 version then trying the DS one later. Anyways going into the list starting with 3DS first.
  4.
  5. OH BY THE WAY THE STORY IS THE SAME ON BOTH 3DS and PS4!!!!
  6.
  7. 3DS:
  8.
  9. -Can swap between 3D Style and 2D Style, Early on in your adventure you'll have both graphics available at the same time, but later on the game will ask you if you prefer 3D Style(DS style) or 2D Style(SNES) you can change the graphics setting anytime at a Church.
  10.
  11. -3D Mode, 3D Mode gives you a gameplay experience similar to Dragon Quest IX as well as Dragon Quest VII(3DS). A Jump button has been added(Not sure what this does yet), You can now attack your enemies on the field to initiate combat and cause a little bit of damage, the enemies can do the same to you as well. There are 2 formations that can happen depending on how you enter battle, traditional where the enemies are lined up for you and You also can be surrounded by enemies.
  12.
  13. -2D Mode, 2D mode gives you the nostalgic feel of the Super Nintendo era Dragon Quest games, When you are in this mode you will get random encounters. It's quite literally the same as SNES Dragon Quest games.
  14.
  15. -Memories of your Journey, So I mentioned earlier you can swap modes. This also causes cutscenes to look completely different as you probably could have guessed. This feature is here so you can look back at older cutscenes to see how they played out on 2D mode and vice versa.
  16.
  17. -Labyrinth Beyond Time, This is a mode that uses the StreetPass feature, I'm not sure if going into the plot reasons about this feature is considered a spoiler? So I just won't. This is a very fan servicey feature as the name implies it has something to do with time! So please look forward to it.
  18.
  19. Now on to PS4 Version
  20.
  21. PS4:
  22.
  23. -Has very beautiful 3D graphics, and has a more "open-world" field to it that the 3DS version doesn't you can explore a lot of the world and towns. Not sure if the map is bigger? my guess would be yes.
  24.
  25. -The jump button has a use right from the get go, You're able to jump on platforms to get on top of buildings
  26.
  27. -There are two battle styles in this game. There is a battle style similar to Dragon Quest X where you can freely move around and input commands.
  28.
  29. -Then there are the auto camera battles, If you've played Dragon Quest VIII You're probably familiar with this style of battle. You aren't free to move around like the Dragon Quest X style.
  30.
  31. -Bowgun adventure. Sometime in the game you'll be invited to a "Bowgun Adventure" this allows you to walk around the world map and towns with a bowgun shooting at targets placed around the world. I assume once you get some you'll be able to collect some prizes?
  32.
  33. -Magic Slots, Magic slots are suppose to emulate Japanese pachinko machines if I'm not mistaken. So you play these slot machines and you'll see cutscenes when you win? I'm not too sure about this but it is a mode that is exclusive to 3DS.
