Anon's Rebirth (Chapter 2)

>You wake up and open your eyes slowly
>You're lying in a huge bed (for p0ny standards)
>Next to you lies a small, orange p0ny with a beautiful blonde mane, hugging you and still sleeping
>Last night ... memories shoot through your head causing you to smile
>You take a look at your watch which is recharged by Twilight's magic once in a while
>Luckily her magic works as an equivalent for electricity
>It's rather early in the morning but it's okay you guess since you wanted to check on the office
>You are basically on vacation but still you feel an urge to check if everything is in order there
>Maybe somep0ny needs help and it's still your duty to provide it where it's needed
>You stretch your arms and yawn
>Your stomach growls demanding breakfast
>Applejack surely won't complain if you take one or two apples since they got enough of them around here
>You nudge her side slightly to wake her up
>She frowns and murmurs in her sleep
>It sure looks adorable when these p0nies do things like that!
>You nudge her again, this time a bit harsher
>She wakes up and brushes your cheek with her lips as she sees you
>"Mornin' Sugarcube."
Hey you won't mind me taking some apples for breakfast, will you?
>"Nah, feel free."
>She's still in a half sleeping state, muttering the last words and turning to the other side
>She isn't accustomed being up so late probably
>You get up and get down making a beeline for the kitchen
>If you'd only have your brush with you
>Well, morning routine has to wait
>As you make your way down you see the sun starting to raise
>Granny Smith is already sitting in the kitchen drinking a cup of tea
>"Mornin' sonny! Did ya sleep well last night?"

>A sly grin creeps on her face
>Did she hear you last night? Impossible, you tried to lower the volume as much as possible
>Still you can't help yourself but to look down to your feet and blush a little
>"Ah told ya a million times ta call me Granny like everyp0ny else does!"

>You sigh in relief
Old habits die hard Mrs... err, Granny.
>One day you will have to ask her for her first name
>It's strange to call a p0ny 'Granny'
>Her first name is probably Samantha or something like that

I'll just grab some apples and head off if that's alright with you.

>She takes another sip, looking at you with the same expression while you take some apples from a basket
>You go back to AJ's room to pack your things
>She can't know everything can she? It would be a little uncomfortable for you if she knew
>Thoughts like these roam through your mind as you eat your breakfast and get dressed
>Also Applejack starts to wake up too
>She'll likely have to start working soon
>She yawns as well and turns to you as you're about to leave
Alright, I'll see you later, I guess.
>You approach her and push her a gentle kiss on her forehead
>"Yeah, see ya later ... no wait a second!"
>Her expression changed as if something important came to her mind, something she forgot to tell you earlier
No chance, I really have to go!
>You wave back at her, leaving your small orange mare behind
>You didn't lie to her, you want to check on the office and head back home as soon as you can to do your morning routine properly
>You walk through Ponyville heading straight for your working place
>There won't be much trouble because nothing ever happened in Ponyville since you started to work there
>Just a neat little check up and afterwards you'll get home and enjoy your leisure time, nothing big

>As you walk through the village you notice several windows opening letting fresh air into the houses
>You see some familiar faces and greet some p0nies here and there
>Approaching you working place you already seem to feel a tense emitting there
>You enter and feel yourself vindicated
>Guard p0nies running all over the place and paper flying around
>Something must have happened
>A blue pegasus comes closer
>His darker blonde mane almost reaches your chin
>"Thank Celestia you're here finally."
>His blue eyes are penetrating you and the stern facial expression tops it off
>That's your supervisor for you
>You feel like being scolded for something you didn't even do
What's the matter Cordan?
>"You would know what the matter is if you were at home, darn it!"
>Oh, yeah, sleep-over
>"I got an important letter from the princess, demanding the two of us in Hollow Shades!"
Hollow Shades? That's a city, right?
>"No shit, smartypants!"
>Woah, that was rude
Okay, okay, I got it. But I'm on vacation! Send somep0ny else, I have the next weeks off!
>Sure, you wanted to see if they need help, but you're assigned to Ponyville
>Since you're a lazy bum you don't want to travel to another city
>Furthermore why can't the other guards do the job? Cordan made it sound like only the two of you were heading there

Okay Cor, listen-
>"No, you listen. It's a really important matter and I am not in a good mood right now! Briefing in one hour from now on. And you better make sure to have everything ready for travel! Now get a move on!"
>Next thing you know is being pushed out of the office and getting the door shut in your face
>You can't say you aren't pissed but it really seems something serious happened in ... Hollow Shapes (was it the name?)
>This time your curiosity wins against your anger and you decide to join the briefing
>But it better has to be something VERY important!
>You get home quickly to prepare everything for your new assignment
>Luckily Cordan gave you some time to do so and you do your morning routine
>Finally you're clean and it's time to decide what to take with you
>You undress and get your workwear
>You will have to dress formally since you're going to work. While you're on vacation.
>During the dressing procedure you here a quiet *pompf* coming from your wardrobe
>Could it be ...?
>You decide to take a closer look at your wardrobe
>Opening the door a yellow flash jumps at you
>You dodge it successfully and a yellow p0ny with a pink mane lands on her flank next to your feet
Fluttershy, are you serious? How long have you been in there? WHAT DID YOU SEE?
>The mere thought of Fluttershy watching you during your triple S ritual sends a shiver down your spine
>"I ... I, umm, I saw nothing, really... *mumble* *squee*."

>Now that she's gone you put your uniform on and take a look around

>You attach your old trusty long-handled hammer on your holster which Rarity made and sew on your leather belt for you
>You had a quite funny conversation with her
>Since she's a fashion designer, she wants to know about every fabric there is
>Your shoes, which she fixes regularly, and your belt were especially interesting because they are leather-made
>Fortunately your brain was working back than and you told her that these are fabrics which only exists on earth
>Still, you don't think you convinced her
>Next you tuck your knife between your belt and your jeans
>You couldn't ask her for a holster for your knife
>They would think of you as a maniac or something
>But anyways it's a very useful tool
>Lastly you grab a small bag full of bits
>This will help you to get by in the city
>You got your gear and sprint off so you can make it in time
>Unfortunately you had to leave you favorite coat and your cape at home
>Damn dress codes
>You enter the agency through the front door and seemingly not a minute too early
>Cordan was already waiting in front of his office
I *pant* I came *pant* as fast as possible *pant*.
>He just rolls his eyes and beckons you to follow him
>You enter his office, close the door behind you and sit down face-to-face at his desk
>He throws a portfolio on the table
>"Listen up, boy! We are assigned for some investigations around Hollow Shades! Lately some p0nies went missing and were found a few days later."
>Sweet Celestia! You opened the portfolio and a few pictures of the victims fell out
>Some of them were beaten up pretty badly and others had limbs coming out of their body in very odd angles
>All of them had something in common. They were lying on the ground with their eyes closed
>"Some bastard seems to be out of control and hurting these innocent citizens aimlessly. Celestia is sending her own guards and ordered us to put an end to this. Also she wants you to join me."
Why?
>"I was curious and asked her the same thing. She told me you'll fit very well in Hollow Shades and provide great help to our investigations. The other guards already prepared everything for our departure. We will go there by a train which was specifically ordered for us."
A whole train for the two of us?
>Cordan gives you an expressionless look
>"The elements of harmony will join us as well."
You didn't say that!
>"I told you Celestia is sending her own guards! This includes the elements of harmony, too!"
Are you sure about this? I mean, there's a madp0ny going around, murdering others, won't this be too dangerous for them?
>"They successfully bear Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis and King Sombra! Any more questions?"
>Actually you beat Discord, but who cares, right?
No. Is there anything more you should tell me about Hollow Shades?
>"There is one thing. This city is rougher than Ponyville, so keep your head down and your guard up, rookie!"

>"The train leaves at 9 pm so you better make sure to make it in time this time!"

>You leave the office

>Alright, basically you have a last day to spend in Ponyville before leaving for an unknown time
>And you pass it by sitting at home
>In order to brace yourself for your new task that is of course
>While relaxing on your couch you start to rethink the situation
>There is someone or something running amok in a city
>You will have to practice your fighting skills a bit so you can protect your friends and you know the right pegasus to help you
>About late afternoon you're able to get your lazy ass up and go for a walk, starting your search for this certain pegasus
>She's probably sleeping somewhere as always
>This time you head directly for Sugarcube Corner because Pinkie somehow always knows where to find her friends
>Entering Sugarcube Corner the sweet smell of baked goods reach your nostrils
>"Heya Anon, how's it going?"
Hey Pinkie, I want to ask you something.
>"Oh, you want some cupcakes?"
>Now that these tasty treats were all in front of you, you recognize how hungry you got
Uuh, yes but I also wanted to ask you where to find Rainbow Dash.
>She smiles at you while wrapping some sweets up for you
>"So you're looking for her again? I see, I see."
>She gives you an all-knowing look which makes you freeze in place

>"You don't have to act like that Nonny, ol' Pinkie can keep a secret. You really doo~ like her, don't you."
>Urgh, this is getting out of hand. Or hoof, whatever

>"She's at the p0ny training ground! She told us she wants to exercise a bit this morning!"
Told 'us'? Did you have a meeting today?
>"Of course, Twilight wanted to talk things over with us before leaving Ponyville. But you're coming with us, you should know that, silly!"

>They were absolutely delicious, the icing was covered in sprinkles and the fluffy dough had a lot of chocolate chunks in it
>You never ate better sweets ever than at Sugarcube Corners but you still don't have an idea how they can bake with their hooves
>It seems to be one never-solved question
>Arriving at the training ground you spot RD already worked and doing some push-ups

>You wave at her
>She gets up and waves back
>"Hey Anon! What's up?"
Not much. Would you mind to help me exercising?
>A smile grows on her face
>"Not a bit!"
>When it comes to exercising she's an absolute pro. And she also loves to show it.
>You take off your jacket and lay it next to a tree
>Also you make sure to hide you hammer and your dagger beneath it
So what are we going to do?
>You stretch a bit and make some failed attempts to warm up
>"First-"
>She hands/hoofs you a sweatband
>"-You'll need this."
>You take it
>It's blue as her coat and it has her cutiemark stitched onto it. Looks pretty girly, but you don't care
Okay, next?
>"Do you know where we are? This is the p0ny training ground. It is used to build up stamina and speed. Didn't I tell you about the one time we created a cyclone to pull the water up to Cloudsdale?"
No. Or wait, you actually did. About a thousand times.
>She blushes in her cute way which you love so much
>"You don't have to exaggerate that much... Anyway, you can train your stamina and your pretty unique running and climbing skill at the obstacle course if you want."
>A word a blow
>You spend the remaining hours climbing and running
>One day of exercise won't change much and you're aware of that, but it's good to get the basics refreshed
>Since you took the job as a guard in Ponyville you got pretty lazy
>Also you wanted to spend time with Rainbow
>It seems like an eternity to you since the last time you hung out together
>Everytime you got slower Dash was there to spur you on
>At the end of your training you find yourself huffing in exhaustion
>"Come on, Anon! That's all you got? How embarrassing!"
*pant* Let's *pant* call it *pant* a day.
>"Your decision."
>You collapse on the tree where you laid your jacket and try to recover. Your long is burning and your legs as your hands hurt from the running and climbing
>The exercise did you good but it also clarified your current state
>You used to be fitter than that
>Rainbow Dash lands next to you
>"Uuh, Anon, I'm also exhausted, can I lay down on you for a little while?"
B-but you didn't even break a sweat!

>She gives you a hangdog look

Sorry, I was busy lately. And it looks like I'm going to be even busier now. During my vacation."

>"Oh, you poor thing! Look, at least we'll go all together. It'll be like an adventure!"
>Her eyes shine while saying this. Looks like somep0ny had read to much 'Daring Do' lately
Yeah, about that. I really don't know what to think of it.
>"Why? Don't you want us to come along with you? What's the matter, are you upset or something?"
>Suddenly she looks very serious

>You nudge her nose softly to show her that you mean it

>She avoids your eyes for a second and turns red slightly

You got a briefing from Twilight, don't you? I'm just afraid that things will get dangerous and I don't want to put my friends in harm's way.
>You pet her rainbow colored mane and scratch her behind her blue ears
>"So you are scared?"
Yes, umm, no, umm, I don't know, aren't you?
>She bursts out laughing
>"No, I am certainly not like you, you scaredy cat!"
>She can't get a hold of herself and continues laughing the next few minutes
>She's really insensitive sometimes
I'm only worried because of all of you!
>She stops laughing, meeting your stern look with her eyes
>"You really don't have to."
>She gets up and punches your shoulder playfully
>"We can care for ourselves!"
>She smiles and you feel your anger being blown away as you smile back
Yes, I know. Sorry I doubted you.

But can you really defend yourself? Even against a tickle attack?
>Before she could react you push her over and start to let your fingers do their magic
>She bursts out laughing again and tries to push you off with her hooves
>"Haha, s-stop it!"

>Instead of stopping you intensify your tickle attack
>RD was getting the upper hoof after some struggling and you find yourself lying on your back with a rainbow-pagasus on top of you
>Her sweet breath brushes your face and a pleasant scent flatters your nose
>"Heh, see? I told you I can take care of myself!"
Alright, I acknowledge defeat.
>You start to snicker and she joins you
>"That was fun! This is what I like the most about you. It never gets boring when you're around."
>All of a sudden she wraps her hooves around you and snuggles her head against your chin
>"I missed you, Anon."
>She's the second p0ny to tell you so
>Have you really been that dismissive lately?
>You are confused at first but you start to hug her back slowly

>And that's not a lie. One of the reasons you wanted to train with her was to spend some time with her

>You shake your head, maybe a tick too fast

>She relinquishes her hug on you and bends over your face
>She was so close that you could literally count every single eyelash
>You begin to sweat, not knowing what this crazy p0ny was up to
>"By the way, I only saw you leaving Sweet Apple Acres this morning while doing my chores. Basically I only took a guess and you told me what I wanted to know."
>She smiles sheepishly as you look back, completely dumbfounded
>"Later Anon!"
>She pecks you and flies off laughing
>You remain recumbent, still confused
>Not only you got tricked by a p0ny but what the hell was that?!

>You really have a knack of getting into random situations like this

>Finally you get up and grab your gear
>Before departing you want to change your clothes and maybe take a shower
>After you've finished everything you make your way to the train station
>Again you're in a great haste
>You have an additional talent to be late everytime
>Only exception you can't afford to be late this time
>You arrive last minute and see Cordan waiting at the entrance looking quite exasperated
>"So humans use to be tardy in principle, am I right?"
>You would answer him saucily but he's still your superior
I am sorry, Cor. Let's roll.
>He turns around without saying another word and you follow him quietly
>Your bad mood vanishes quickly as you spot your friends waiting at the already arrived train
>Looks like everyone will join you in your new task
>At first you were unsure what to think about these circumstances but ,ultimately, you're happy that your friends will come along with you at least
>Your eyes meet with Applejack's and she smiles at you but afterwards she avoids eye contact and chomps at the bit
>The others come towards you and greet you
>You find yourself in a vivid smalltalk with your friends until Cordan hawks
>"Alright, I know this seems like a happy little excursion but we have a very important duty to achieve. Would you please be so kind and get into the train finally?"
>"He's right, let's go girls. And Anon of course."
>Twilight is eager as ever, trotting firstly inside
>Rarity leans over to you and whispers quietly to you
>"Is he always that grumpy?"
>You nod sympathetically
Yes, but you'll get used to it.
>She huffs and walks into the train
>"Come on, we don't have all day!"
>Cordan gives you and Fluttershy a sign to get in
>The two of you were the last since she decided to keep herself as close to you as possible
>Because she has to 'd-defend you, if that's alright with you...'
>You push her inside with a groan
>Then you take a last look back at Ponyville
>Feels like you won't be around these parts of Equestria for quite a while
