  1. This is shit. Don't read it. Probably.
  2.
  3. >You stare into the horizon, desperately trying to ignore the knot in your throat
  4. >This was it, then
  5. >You and Chrysalis could both sense that today would be the day of the invasion
  6. >What time, you didn't know
  7. >The armies had set up early in the morning
  8. >Your hive had followed soon afterwards
  9. >An uncountable mass of mega-drones surrounded you
  10. >Your mega-drones
  11. >Your children
  12. >You had no idea how many were going to make it through, but you doubted that the number would be high
  13. >But you couldn't think of that now
  14. >Any weakness could be the line between a great victory and a disastrous defeat
  15. >And, to be honest, you had enough weaknesses without thinking of how many dead kids you were about to have
  16. >Especially with that cloud in front of you
  17. >It first showed up at around noon
  18. >At first, a faint haze on the horizon
  19. >Then a slightly darker patch of sky
  20. >It didn't take you long to figure out what it was
  21. >The other hives' armies
  22. >Flying into battle
  23. >Of course, that was going to take them a few hours
  24. >Your Changeling vision had a ridiculous range, and swarms didn't move very fast
  25. >Still, watching it advance was terrifying
  26. >This is it, isn't it?
  27. >Your last stand...
  28. >You're interupted from your thoughts by Celestia's voice
  29. >"Anonymous."
  30. >You turn to face her, armor creaking slightly
  31. "Yes?"
  32. >"I was reviewing our final battle plans, and I realize I left one thing out."
  33. "Go on."
  34. >She pulls out a scroll
  35. >"We have the positions of every national army, a good deal of elaboration on how your drones will fight, and some idea of how you'll use your magic. But, well..."
  36. >She looks at you over the paper
  37. >"It doesn't mention what me or the other Alicorns should do."
  38. >You mull it over
  39. >And, in that moment, you make the most important decision of your entire life
  40. "Split up. Take the four points of a compass. Spread the fire power around."
  41. >"Okay."
  42. >She turns around and spreads her wings
  43. >Just before she takes off, however, she looks back at you
  44. >She opens her mouth, as if to speak
  45. >But, at the last moment, she closes it
  46. >With a great rush of air she takes off
  47. >You continue to look onwards, still deep in thought
  48. >The next two hours pass all too quickly
  49. >Chrysalis stands at your side, silent next to you
  50. >The swarm's close now
  51. >Your changeling vision can make out individuals in it
  52. >Wings
  53. >Chitin
  54. >Some of the long-range weaponry that the dragons provided starts firing behind you
  55. >You see some of the shells hit
  56. >At least twenty changelings drop to the ground, but more fill their place immediately
  57. >You see ponies working on canons and other artillery next to you, getting ready to fire
  58. >The swarm is soon in range of those weapons
  59. >But, again, each volley barely makes a dent
  60. >You swallow
  61. >"Hey."
  62. >Chrysalis, for the first time in a while, speaks
  63. >"I... I'm not sure we're going to make it through. But, uh..."
  64. >A canon fires next to you
  65. >You barely even notice, you're so focused on her
  66. >"I just wanted to... Thank you."
  67. "Thank me?"
  68. >"Yeah. For... For the last few days."
  69. >You nod, turning back to the swarm
  70. "Don't mention it."
  71. >"No, really, I-"
  72. "Chrysalis. I know."
  73. >The swarm's close enough that, even without your enhanced hearing, you can hear the roar of their wings
  74. "Well."
  75. >You draw your weapon as your wings get to work, lifting you slightly off the ground
  76. "Hope to fucking god this works."
  77. >You think a single word
  78. >A word which resonates throughout the hivemind
  79. "Charge."
  80. >Instantly, the swarm behind you roars to life as your children take off
  81. >They're faster than their opposing counterparts
  82. >Probably something to do with the hosts
  83. >They meet the oncoming horde in a confusing collection of falling objects and writing bodies
  84. >You pull as much magic as you can into your hands
  85. >Now was the time to see what you can really do...
  86. >The magic is surprisingly silent
  87. >Maybe none of the energy is wasted as sound
  88. >Even so, the results are awe-inspiring
  89. >Green light explodes from your hands and hits the swarm, taking a stadium-sized chunk out of it
  90. >You're relieved, but only for a second
  91. >Because the next moment the swarm has patched the hole
  92. >You arch an eyebrow as you charge another, letting it go
  93. >Another huge chunk
  94. >You're causing serious damage, but none of the changelings seem to be going for you
  95. >You see another flash to the side of you, and another chunk of the swarm is gone
  96. >Chrysalis
  97. >Right
  98. >But...
  99. >The swarm's just ignoring you
  100. >Skirmishing with your own troops, but they seem oddly reserved
  101. >And the other rulers are nowhere to be found
  102. >It's al-
  103. >FUCK
  104. >The realization hits you, but so does the horrible feeling that it's too little, too late
  105. >If their attention isn't here, it has to be elsewhere
  106. >And-
  107. >And they can drain people
  108. >Gain their magical abilities
  109. >Which means the obvious candidates were-
  110. "Take care of this!"
  111. >Your voice is wild and uncontrolled as panic sets in
  112. >With a flash of light, you teleport yourself several miles south
  113. >God, you're a fucking moron
  114. >They're being a hundred times more aggressive here
  115. >Through the flurry of bodies, you make out much larger Changelings
  116. >Royal changelings
  117. >Four of them, gathered in a circle...
  118. >Your heart sinks as you make your way towards them, firing off as many blasts as you can while you do so
  119. >You aim one at the group, but it has no effect
  120. >They blocked it
  121. >And...
  122. >The only way they could do that is if-
  123. >"You've failed!"
  124. >You clench your teeth, ignoring their words as you barrel towards them
  125. >They simply step aside
  126. >You skid right into the middle of the circle and look downwards
  127. >Celestia
  128. >Pale
  129. >Cutie Mark gone
  130. >Flesh hanging loosely off her body
  131. >You've seen this
  132. >A hundred times in dreams
  133. >Nightmares, become reality
  134. >You look up, catching the eye of the king in front of you
  135. >The smoke is still retreating into his mouth
  136. >He's smug
  137. >Arrogant
  138. >You want to rip him limb from fucking limb
  139. >Rip off his horn and feed it to him
  140. >But you can't do that now
  141. >Celestia's gone, but maybe--
  142. >You teleport again, only to see another circle of royalty
  143. >You use magic to get their quicker
  144. >Luna
  145. >Gone
  146. >But-
  147. >You teleport again
  148. >You don't even bother checking when you see the circle
  149. >Twilight's down, but maybe Cadence...
  150. >Another circle
  151. >You want to throw up, but god dammit, you can't let them win...
  152. >And then, impossibly, your heart sinks lower in your chest
  153. >You just spent five minutes away from your post
  154. >You left Chrysalis alone
  155. >And...
  156. >In front of you, the other royal changelings disappear in a flash of green lightning
  157. >You do the same, as quickly as you can
  158. >But not quickly enough
  159. >The royal council you saw in your dreams stands in front of you, Chrysalis in the middle of them
  160. >She's in some kind of green chains
  161. >They look organic
  162. >The same King that addressed you in the royal meeting takes a triumphant step forward.
  163. >"Divide and conquer, Anonymous. You lost to the oldest trick in the book."
  164. >You stare at him, trying to contain your rage
  165. >"With their love in us, there's no way for us to lose. It's finished."
  166. >The battle rages around you, but you can barely hear it
  167. >You're too intently focused on him
  168. >His fucking smile
  169. >His fucking upright posture
  170. >Everything about him is...
  171. >And you're going to lose to him
  172. >That's inevitable
  173. >But...
  174. >Something nags at the back of your mind
  175. >You had started this whole mess by screwing Chrysalis
  176. >But you had no choice in the matter
  177. >You were compelled against your will
  178. >By obviously magical means
  179. >Magic doesn't hurt you
  180. >If there's one thing that's stayed constant, it's that
  181. >Even when Chrysalis ripped your body apart and warped it into something else, you weren't hurt
  182. >Just enhanced
  183. >So, if that's the case, why were you compelled to lay with Chrysalis?
  184. >Why would you start this whole mess?
  185. >That had to be a negative effect
  186. >The fucking feeling of despair that seems to drain you sure is negative
  187. >Then again, so was the pain in Chrysalis' belly
  188. >But your immunity let it slide, since the end result was good for you
  189. >Since the end result gave you more power...
  190. >But how can this give you power?
  191. >How can this fucking scenario end in anything but disaster?
  192. >The Alicorns were drained. The world would be next. There was no way you could fight against that kind of power-
  193. >Oh
  194. >You continue to stare at the king in front of you as your lips slowly part into a smile
  195. >You can see the uncertainty in his eyes as you flash your fangs at him
  196. "No... I don't think you've actually won."
  197. >You step forward towards him
  198. >You can detect that you're going through a magical shield, but it has no effect
  199. >"We have!"
  200. >He snarls and hits you square in the chest with a huge burst of energy
  201. >Celestia's lifeforce was powerful
  202. >But, as usual, the magic doesn't hurt you
  203. >"We-"
  204. >Another blast, equally ineffective
  205. >"That- How are you-"
  206. "I don't play by the rules."
  207. >You pounce forward, knocking him onto his back
  208. >The other Changelings try to react, but you cast a shield of your own
  209. >It's just you and him now
  210. >They were for later
  211. "I don't play by the rules. I never have."
  212. >You tighten your grip, and you can feel him gag
  213. "I'm not effected by harmful magic. I used to think that was the extent of my innate abilities, that Chrysalis gave me everything else. But now..."
  214. >You use your other hand to stroke the side of the king's face
  215. "I think that I can ignore any limits magic imposes on me. But, for now, I think I'll ignore one in particular."
  216. >You feel green smoke come out of your mouth
  217. >An act you'd unknowingly rehearsed nightly since you'd become a Human-ling
  218. >"That's- Impossi-"
  219. >You savor the shock on his face as smoke exist his own mouth
  220. >He stops speaking
  221. >He tries to mouth the word "no," to scream it, but he can't
  222. >It's already begun
  223. >You inhale, deeply, draining the king
  224. >His face shrivels
  225. >His chitin loses its shine
  226. >You consume his very being, his very essence
  227. >And, with it, you inadvertently consume a bit of his recent meal
  228. >Of Celestia
  229. >But that doesn't matter now
  230. >The process only takes a few seconds, and you drop his corpse, feeling rejuvenated
  231. >The other Changeling royalty are trying to flee
  232. >You freeze them in their tracks
  233. >Nothing can compete with your magic right now
  234. >And you weren't even finished
  235. >You consume the other Royalty in mere seconds, feeling their essences -- and the essences of your deceased friends -- flow into you
  236. >They drop to the ground like dead flies
  237. >Fitting
  238. >With that taken care of, you look up
  239. >The leaders are down, but the army survives
  240. >The fighting still rages
  241. >Not that it will for long
  242. >You raise yourself higher into the air, high above the war raging on below you
  243. >You exhale, savoring the feeling of power
  244. >Time to see just how much energy a mega-drone had...
  245. >You aim your arms downwards and the battle stops, the full power of all of Equestria's immortals contained in your hands
  246. >You inhale, deeply
  247. >A vast cloud of smoke runs directly into your nostrils
  248. >You can feel it supercharging your very being
  249. >You let go of the remains
  250. >The corpses of billions of mega-drones drop like dead flies, leaving only your horde in return
  251. >It's over
  252. >You ended it
  253. >You look down at your carnage
  254. >You've just taken... Billions of lives
  255. >Destroyed them
  256. >Consumed their very souls
  257. >You probably should feel bad, but, god dammit, it's impossible to feel anything but powerful right now
  258. >You realize with some surprise that it's going to be impossible to feel anything but power ever again
  259. >You don't know how, you just... know
  260. >Know that you've broken several fundimental laws of reality
  261. >And, in doing so, ceased to belong in that reality
  262. >And you can't figure out if this is a transcendence or an exile
  263. >Well, either way, you had some business to take care of
  264. >You swoop downwards, back to Chrysalis
  265. >She looks up at you, eyes full of wonder
  266. >"What did..."
  267. >You break her chains and speak
  268. >Your voice seeming to come from all directions
  269. "I drained them."
  270. >She stares up at you
  271. "There... There wasn't another way. I would have..."
  272. >She's silent
  273. >You can see why
  274. >You hang your head
  275. "I know it wasn't ideal. And I also know that... I'm not supposed to be here."
  276. >"Supposed to be where?"
  277. "Here. In... In this world. I--"
  278. >You look up at her
  279. "Look. All the other rulers are dead, and-- I don't know how much damage that battle caused. They need a leader."
  280. >"You're not honestly suggesting-"
  281. "I am. You can do it. I know you can."
  282. >"And-"
  283. >Chrysalis' voice is strained as she looks up at you, eyes wide
  284. "What of-- our child? Not the drone, but the royal offspring?"
  285. >"Take-- Take care of him."
  286. >She nods
  287. >"And you? Where will you go?"
  288. "I-- I don't know. Just... Not here."
  289. >She nods
  290. >"Anonymous. I-- I love you."
  291. "I don't think I'm Anonymous anymore, Chrysalis."
  292. >She looks as if struck
  293. >You want to comfort her, but--
  294. >But you can't, can you?
  295. >You turn away and take a deep breath
  296. >Then, with a crack of green lightning, you're gone
