  1. Pokemon Fire Red Ch'Ding FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What does CH'DING mean?
  4. A: CH'DING is the nickname of the in-game traded Farfetch'd you get in this game. This is an Alt Pokemon speedrun using that Farfetch'd the beat the game.
  5.
  6. Q: Where do you get CH'DING?
  7. A: CH'DING is acquired in the trade in Vermillion City. I have to complete Nugget Bridge before getting access to Vermillion, but I'll still get it before Misty.
  8. It's not actually faster to get it before Misty, but the rules for Alt Pokes suggest that if you can get a Pokemon before a badge (in this case, the second one), you must do so.
  9.
  10. Q: So is this faster than using Blastoise?
  11. A: No, the entire point of an alt Pokemon run is that it is not the fastest way to beat the game. Otherwise it would just be...the fastest way, and it'd be the main category.
  12.
  13. Q: So how much slower is this going to be? What's your estimate?
  14. A: I think between 2:20 and 2:50? Unsure completely.
  15.
  16. Q: What are the hardest fights in this run?
  17. A: Lorelei is the worst. And it's not even close.
  18. Other particularly tricky fights of note are: Misty (the only fight where CH'DING is disobedient because you don't have enough badges), Game Corner Giovanni, and Lance.
  19.
  20. Q: Do you manipulate the CH'DING? If so, what are it's stats?
  21. A: CH'DING isn't manipped, but as an in-game trade Poke it always has the same stats. It has IVs of 20 HP, 25 Att, 21 Def, 15 Sp Att, 20 Sp Def, 24 Speed with an Adamant nature.
  22.
  23. Q: What item is it holding?
  24. A: It's holding a Stick. It's a specific held item that boosts the crit ratio by 2 stages for Farfetch'd. That means all my moves have a 1/4 chance of critting, instead of the regular 1/16.
  25.
  26. Q: Do you plan to do other Alt Pokemon runs?
  27. A: Yeah, in the future. I've already done a few of these in other games, which you can view here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKdCHbtiZdhA63-FROqfqamattnoWR0xd
  28.
  29. I've got quite a few more on my list to do in the future (mostly across Gen 4/5). I definitely don't need suggestions on more - I've thought about and considered everything you can imagine. It's hard to find the right mix of something you get early enough in the game that is actually still interesting to use. But I've certainly got some more planned, it just takes a long time to route the whole game with something else.
  30.
  31. ---
  32.
  33. Q: What are you playing on, it is emulator?
  34. A: No, I play on a Gamecube through a Gameboy Player using a Gameboy SP as a controller.
  35.
  36. Q: Why do you choose Squirtle as your starter?
  37. A: Cause it beats the start of the game the best. I actually think Charmander might be faster for this category since you don't fight Misty (and therefore don't get Water Pulse early), but I've never run with Charmander and I cba learning it when it's the boring part of the run.
  38.
  39. Q: Why AREN'T you doing manip for starter stats?
  40. A: Because the "manip" in this game involves following the instructions of external tools, which to me personally crosses the line of having tools assisting your speedrun. So I simply refuse to do it.
  41.
  42. Q: Why not Leaf Green?
  43. A: I don't own it lol. Basically the same tho.
  44.
  45. Q: Why do you play as the girl?
  46. A: She's cute.
  47.
  48. Q: Why do you name yourself and Squirtle 'I'?
  49. A: Because it's faster to name them one character for text purposes, and the letter 'I' gives a nice spin as if the game was self-narrating
  50.
  51. Q: Do you catch anything else?
  52. A: I catch 2 HM slaves, one for Cut, and one for Fly. Can vary what they are depending on what shows up.
  53.
  54. Q: What is WR?
  55. A: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmngen3ext#Alt_Main_Pokes_FireRedLeafGreen (Real answer is there isn't one atm, so whatever I get.)
  56.
  57. Q: What is your goal time?
  58. A: To get a decently clean run.
