  1. Peer assessment
  2. Both ideas and English grammar are important. Content always matters in a response. However, students still need proper grammar to help them illustrate their ideas. Without correct grammar, readers may misunderstand your thoughts(Is grammar important?, n.d.). Grammar is comprised of verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions and interjections(MacMillan, 2017). Each part helps readers and listeners understand the content more efficiently and reduce the chances of misunderstanding. Grammar is important not only in peer reviews but in our daily lives. It would a shame when you hold an amazing idea but fail to impress people because of your poor grammar.

  4. When I assess a forum response that has ideas differing than mine, I would give an informative feedback while being cautious of the words I use. When I possess a different view from a response, it means there is an opportunity for the assessee to know a different view. Shuttleworth states(n.d.) that peer review offers students to receive different perspectives from their peers. It would be beneficial to the assessee if I express my views. However, I should be very cautious when constructing my assessment in order to keep my reply constructive and respectful(Collaborative And Peer to Peer Learning, n.d.).

  6. I regard self-assessment to be the most effective way of assessing learning. In Taiwan, many students take certification exams to evaluate the level of expertise. Take myself as an example, I take English certification exams periodically to know what level of English proficiency I am at. By doing so, I know how to plan my next step by examining the results of those exams. Every year, I focus on different aspects such as reading, writing, speaking and listening to improve my English according to my test result. Knowing where students are in terms of their learning process also encourages them to seek for more resources. This self-assessment also gives them motivations to keep improving their skills.
