- How to create your own private session in Red Dead Redemption 2 Online (PC only method):
- * (this is exactly the same method as in RDO Lobby Manager, but manually, without using any app)
- 1. Open notepad and copy to it the text from here: https://pastebin.com/tckzCWEi.
- 2. Write anything instead of "your_code_word" at the very end of the text you've just copied.
- 3. Save it with any name, then rename it with "startup.meta" (without quotation marks, [.meta] need to be file extension instead of [.txt]).
- 4. Find [\x64\data] subfolder inside the game directory. If you have your game on Steam, it's here:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Dead Redemption 2\x64\data. There is supposed to be only one folder "errorcodes".
- 5. Copy the startup.meta file you've just created into the [\data] folder.
- 6. Now when you load the game, you are the sole player in your session. Note that you can't participate in free roam events, take part in story missions or anything of the sort that requires other players from the lobby.
- 7. You can invite your friends to your private session, they just need to do the same on their computers (steps 1-5) and write exactly the same string as a code word at the end of "startup.meta" text (as in step 2). If there are more than one player in your private session, you can join free roam events, just leave the posse so you can be competitors.
- 8. Whenever you want to pause playing alone and come back to regular session with other random players, before loading the game open the [\Red Dead Redemption 2\x64\data] folder and remove "startup.meta" file from there, or just disable the file by renaming it (for example, put an underscore, like "_startup.meta").
- Enjoy. There are no more annoying griefers and hackers, animals and random quests/encounters spawn frequently all around you. :)

- Very good instructions and it really works! Thanks a lot for posting this!

- I'm confused if i did anything wrong. I opened notepad, copied the code, replaced the phrase at the end with "one". saved it with "startup.meta" and made sure that wen i clicked on the properties of it, it said ".meta" file. I posted it in the same filepath because that's where my RDR2 is. I pasted it in the 'errorcodes' folder. And I launched the game. However, every time I launch the game, it shows players in my lobby in freeroam. Nothing changes. The instructions seemed simple, but idk what I'm doing wrong. Can someone please help?

- You want it in the /data folder not in the errorcodes folder

- Hey there. I've done this on both systems and, on each system, it loads the player into a private session, but will not allow those two players to be together in the same session - even with the same code word. I'll add that one is a Windows PC and the other is a Steam Deck. Any ideas what could be going on?
