  1. Deoxys-Defense was a premier wall and entry hazard setter in all generations it has been in since its release. In X and Y's competitive era, however, it was banned to the Uber tier due to its near-guaranteed hazard setting and the lack of hazard removal in generation 6. Despite this, in the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon competitive season, we believe Deoxys-Defense could be brought back down to OU. This is because:
  2. 1) Deoxys-Defense simply cannot wall like it used to. In generation 5, Deoxys-Defense's weaknesses were covered completely by the Steel-type, and Deoxys-Defense could easily wall the weaknesses of its Steel-type ally. Now, with resistances to Ghost and Dark few and far between and the immense presence of Bug-type attacks, Deoxys-Defense's defensive capabilities falter due to its pure-Psychic typing and lackluster HP stat.
  3. 2) Deoxys-Defense was first popular mainly because prior generations had an extreme lack of methods to deal with the ever-prevalent entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock. However, in generation 7, Defog is immensely common, Mega Sableye and other Magic Bounce users are much more common, and teams have less reason to fear Stealth Rock in general. In fact, entry hazards in general have seen a decrease in usage. As such, Deoxys-Defense's primary role as a Stealth Rock setter has diminished greatly in both viability and necessity.
  4. 3) Deoxys-Defense is very easily knocked out in the current meta. With Tyranitar, Blacephalon, and other Pokemon appearing with great prevalence, Deoxys-Defense's ability to wall is severely hindered, especially with its inability to deal damage back. Tyranitar can easily Pursuit trap Deoxys-Defense and Blacephalon can just spam Shadow Ball. With the large usage of U-turn and Volt Switch, Deoxys-Defense will often find itself switching into either a super-effective move or a Pokemon that can obliterate it.
  5. 4) Deoxys-Defense is largely outclassed by other walls. Pokemon like Toxapex, who have a similar stat distribution, have more and better tools to assist it in its job. For instance, Toxapex has a better typing in Water/Poison and has both Regenerator and Scald, both of which make it immensely harder to defeat. Landorus-Therian and Mega Scizor both have U-turn, which allows them to easily escape an unfavorable situation and bring in a teammate who switches it around. Likewise, Pokemon like Chansey just have better stats for walling in general, with Eviolite ramping its defense stats to insane numbers. Other Pokemon like Mega Sableye have Magic Bounce to make them harder to defeat, and Pokemon like Mandibuzz have Defog.
  6. 5) Deoxys-Defense can do nothing in return to its attackers. Unlike many other wall Pokemon currently popular in the meta, Deoxys-Defense lacks means to retaliate other than Knock Off and Toxic, which means it is far easier to both switch in on and remove from play.
  7.
  8. Because of these reasons, an anonymous member and I believe Deoxys-Defense can be moved down from Uber to OU in order to add a little more variability in the choice of Pokemon available to the average member of the Silver League. We ask you to consider this change and to open up a possible suspect test in which people may use Deoxys-Defense for a certain amount of time (including recording battle videos in which it is present) and returning feedback, after which it will be decided if Deoxys-Defense is an option for OU play. Unbanning Deoxys-Defense will also help the Silver League in setting itself apart from other similar leagues and add an interesting difference to recorded battles for the YouTube scene.
