The danSexy debate

Okay, so on the first day of GDQ, one of the first people to be on was Protomagicalgirl, also know as PrincessProto. She is a transgender woman. A lot of people were spamming an emote by DansGaming called danSexy. This caused Proto to report the emote to GDQ for being transphobic and asked for it to be banned.

GDQ did ban the emote, but not without consequences. Many people were extremely upset with the decision, and decided to go after Proto, with continued use of the emote and even death threats.

DansGaming did two things in response to this. One, he basically said to not be aggressive and that discussion is necessary. Sounds reasonable. The second one is to add the original danSexy as a $25 sub emote. That's where I have issues. Using this to market some $25 subs is rather sleazy and just validates those harassing Proto, whether Dan means it or not.

So how do we fix this situation? First, DansGaming needs to explicitly state the origins behind this story and fully condemn those who are being transphobic with the emote. No tepid response. Second, remove the original danSexy for now and maybe reintroduce it when this situation is over with. Third, the trans community needs to calm down over an emote and look into why the emote exists in the first place. Dan is a cross-dressing gay man. Was it being used in a transphobic way? Absolutely. But it shouldn't be removed. I would hope Dan would be more vocal about the situation, considering he is part of the LGBT community. The way he responds can either validate or condemn those who are being cruel. And right now, his responses are validating the attacks.

I just hope we can all learn from this situation, see what both parties have done wrong, and become better human beings. Just don't be mean to each other. Why is that so difficult?
