  27.
  28. The sound of thunder crashed overhead.
  29.
  30. This morning the rain hit do like thunder from the heavens, pouring into thick canopy rooftop in streams which forever stretched down into the ground. The caverns and crevasses which existed close by capturing the opulent runoff which flowed and bulged up across channels in the greedy earth. And while you’d had some taste of the usual downpours which quite often bathed the landscape, you’d never had a taste of morning rain before, as the clouds broke up your morning reverie and forced you out of your shelter for the morn.
  31.
  32. The sounds of wind and storm dominated as you stayed your ground until finally they passed, leaving only the dripping wet reminders of their passing, and a wave of life awakened to the world.
  33.
  34. And somehow you’d thought the forest had been green before this brief torrent which drowned your world, only to find that notion put to lie as ever more beauty and wonder crept out from their hiding places to bring the forest to life.
  35.
  36. You crawled off into the water laden blooms, beginning your week in search of desirability. Everything you saw, was pretty, the fronds of leaves glistening with water, the flowers blooming in arrangements which defied your breath, everything about the world as it stood after the rains was beauty incarnated.
  37.
  38. You wanted to become more like it.
  39.
  40. You’d spend much of your time for the week wondering about, taking materials, testing materials for their capabilities, and even trying to make yourself more akin to the striking beauty which you’d witnessed as the time crawled by. You didn’t exactly have anyone to practice with, but in truth that was fine by you. You simply used your reflection in whatever bodies of water you could find.
  41.
  42. The results of your attempts to arrange your petals in a pleasing fashion would bear fruit, as slowly you found yourself ever more entrancing while preening over your appearance. Within you a dark approval seemed to ripple across your sensitive skin. Even you, its originator, desire the thing which you saw in your watery mirror.
  43.
  44. Either way you also spend a great deal of time in the jungle exploring the areas around the Standing Stones.
  45.
  46. For the most part your trek across the forest floor was uneventful, as you searched and tasted practically every strange thing which came your way, your senses overwhelmed with new variety which you found almost everywhere that you went.
  47.
  48. It would prove rewarding as you crawled your way through various bushes and shrubs, reaping their bounty as you moved.
  49.
  50. Many were delicious, like the sugar vine which as usual was ripe and sweet, you collected some more of it as you moved along, and some would surprise you as you touched and tasted them. In particular were the sweet scented liquids which you extracted from what seemed to be a weird fungus, pretty like a flower yet its alien look seemed to defy all of your usual expectations. You found it growing in a crevasse on the wooden wall of a tree trunk. Strange yet softly glowing, it seemed to call to you, creating an enchanting song as the wind blew though it’s swaying fungal fronds.
  51.
  52. You plucked some of what you could find before moving on.
  53.
  54. You managed to find some other things as well, like a vine which regenerated rapidly every time you damaged it, its juices a thick green gel which seemed almost alive in the way that it tried to move, matching and mimicking whatever you spread it over as it became a part of the thing.
  55.
  56. Between those discoveries and the later strange bell shaped flowers which seemed to pulse strongly with magic, you managed to make quite the haul for the day.
  57.
  58. You also came across another odd thing, as you found a grazing creature nibbling upon it.
  59.
  60. http://orig14.deviantart.net/654d/f/2009/016/e/c/armadilloupe_by_ursulav.jpg
  61.
  62. A strange Armoured thing, it curled up tight into a defensive ball, attempting to hit the ground when you caught it. The various sections of its armour seemed to move independently, groping at the air as if it were trying to do something. Closer examination declared it 'Low Roller Kit', Resilience and speed being its primary stats.
  63.
  64. Teeth like rounded pegs sink into your tender fingers with surprising strength, forcing you into letting it fall from your hand with an injured squeak.
  65.
  66. You learned the moment that it hit the ground what those mobile armour plates were for. With surprising strength and speed the creature partially uncurled, tensed, and then launched itself off into the distance. Each plate seemed to serve as a spring and motor in which allowed the creature to literally roll and bounce away.
  67.
  68. “Hey!” Came an indignant squawk. You paused for a moment, turning your head back towards the creature which had cried out. “You let it get away! I’ve been hunting it all day!”
  69.
  70. What you saw was... interesting.
  71.
  72. http://orig01.deviantart.net/7d51/f/2013/126/b/d/c206a_by_kutty_sark-d64avnl.jpg
  73.
  74. It was a creature clearly from your own line, tier one in fact. An interesting mixture of bird, reptilian, and plant features seemed to dominate its awkward duck like body. Within you tickling, dark, sensations told you of its species name; Snap-drake. Its stats seemed ultimately weighted toward strength and toughness.
  75.
  76. “Ahh… sorry?” You were caught a bit flat footed as you stared back at the tier one.
  77.
  78. “You should be, it’s hard enough sneaking up on em much less grabbing em without hands you know.” The reptile/bird thing spoke indignantly. “Makes me almost regret giving my hands for wings.”
  79.
  80. Then the creature stopped, tilted its head then opened its eyes wide. “Oh… wait a second you can talk?”
  81.
  82. “Of course I can talk, I’m not stupid.” You insisted, sounding vaguely insulted.
  83.
  84. The Snap-drake shrugged. “Well ok, I just haven’t met any other Flower-kin who could actually talk back to me.”
  85.
  86. You nodded. “I’ve only ever seen a few other monsters who could speak. One’s a Chameleon. And the other two looked like friends.”
  87.
  88. “Ah… so… um… what should we do now? I mean I suppose it’s rude to eat anyone else who talks back, but I’m still hungry.” You didn’t really like how he was eyeing you when he said that. “You wouldn’t mind a nibble or two would you?”
  89.
  90. He sounded way too hopeful about that.
  91.
  92. “Ah… no. I don’t particularly think I want to be nibbled on.” You replied, quirking your own head one side as you made yourself look, just a bit more desirable, then glanced up towards the canopy. “I’m pretty hungry myself too. There just hasn’t been a lot of sun for the week.”
  93.
  94. The Snap-drake nodded in clear commiseration.
  95.
  96. “Yeah. I mean I like more blood these days, but I haven’t woken up to a good sunning all week.”
  97.
  98. “Why not hunt together then? I haven’t had good warm blood in weeks.” You replied with an eager smile on your face, the Snap-drake seemed to perk up all at once on that suggestion. “I mean if we catch enough sharing shouldn’t be a problem right?”
  99.
  100. “I don’t know about this sharing business. But I guess two hunting a meal’s better than one right?” The creature spoke as it shook itself like a land-fowl.
  101.
  102. “Soo… how good are you at finding stuff?”
  103.
  104.
  105.

  107.
  108.
  109. As it turned out, neither one of you were all that great at the tracking parts of hunting, though the Snap-drake seemed to have an edge on you as its senses had an actual skill associated with them. Eventually though you managed to uncover at least one of the larger pig creatures which you’d caught all those weeks ago.
  110.
  111. It was a bit faster paced than you’d expected.
  112.
  113. Between the two of you you’d managed to corner the creature, now identifiable as a ‘Plated Hog’.
  114.
  115. “Don’t get so close!” You cried out as your new found hunting partner charged in, his wings wide as he charged the beast from the opposite direction, driving it toward you even as you begun to weave your trap. You’d begun to weave together vegetation into a crude net, a plan which the two of you’d managed to work out on the fly.
  116.
  117. It seemed like the Snap-Drake never actually made any use of his own Botanical Assertion before his evolution into his current form, apparently he’d been the rough and tumble type in a way like you’d never even tried, rushing out after prey from the trees and tackling anything he could grab to wrestle it down into the ground.
  118.
  119. Just as he was attempting to do even now.
  120.
  121. But Plated Hogs were pretty dammed tough critters and being the staple food of pretty much every carnivore in the jungle, were not slouches at their own self-defense. Even a Tier One like this one was a defensive juggernaut, with a ‘Rage’ effect which forced the creature to completely ignore most types of direct crowd control.
  122.
  123. The trick to getting one down, as the two of you were learning, was to bait out said rage so that you could effectively trap and mire it down.
  124.
  125. This would not prove to be an easy task even as the Snap-Drake chased it ever closer.
  126.
  127. “Incoming!” The creature shouted, snapping his wide jaws down in front of the pig’s face to give it a scare. The creature was close enough to panicking, as it tried again and again to dodge past the Snap-drake to no avail thanks to the outstretched wings, and some sudden flare-ups of movement from the brush courtesy of yourself.
  128.
  129. All of this was however, just the prelude. It was only at the moment that you could make the creature think that there was no other way out that the real show would begin.
  130.
  131. It happened almost all at once, as the large, though otherwise only defensively inclined hog switched from being the hunted as its eyes burst into a malevolent red flame, and its body seemed to swell with the powerful steroid ability.
  132.
  133. And suddenly your friend was in all kinds of trouble.
  134.
  135. “Ow ow ow ow ow!!!” The Snap-Drake chanted even as it ran away from the hellish hog which was now heavily in pursuit, it’s ability having caused it to lose all sense of rationality which it had before, throwing itself in wild abandon at the predator which only moments ago had it dead to rights.
  136.
  137. No there wasn’t really much you could do, but hope that your friend stuck to the plan, as he ran in circles trying not to get killed before the Plated Hog could come down from its rampaging rage high.
  138.
  139. An awkward Squawk flew up as your friend rushed towards the trap, the duration of the enemy buff winding down as you readied yourself to unleash it upon the hog, only to realize that the Snap-Drake had been tripped, its talons tangling in the roots of nearby tree even as the last seconds of rage ticked down, the Plated Hog having smacked into him from behind at the wrong moment and causing him to foul where he would have otherwise been fine.
  140.
  141. You barely had to think on it as you called forth ever plant within reach, slamming them all against the powerful pig, even as you exposed yourself directly to the danger it posed.
  142.
  143. “HEY!!!” You cried out, hoping that in falling that your friend had become still enough that you could attract its attention instead.
  144.
  145. To your ever increasing misfortune, it worked like a charm.
  146.
  147. “Eeep!!!” You cried once more, grabbing the nearest tree limb which you could bend down to your level, and letting it pull you up into the air, a bit too suddenly for comfort as the prey still rampaged below.
  148.
  149. But this could not stay forever, even as the Snap-Drake shook himself up and pulled himself to his feet, once more making himself large, loud, and intimidating as possible. A moment later, the Rage wore away, leaving the creature scared and confused.
  150.
  151. Your trap sprang into action, vines dragging the Hog down to the ground, as more and more vegetation began to swallow it alive.
  152.
  153. And with a snap the Snap-Drake’s mouth found its powerful grip on the struggling beast’s head… then ripped. Its innards ripping out as the blood spilled down upon the mosses and grass which carpeted the forest floor. It took you a moment to survey just what you’d wrought, staring into the dead eyes of your opposition even as your companion began to laugh, and reveling in the spilled blood even as you too began to join him.
  154.
  155. “Alright!” He roared and you cheered, even as both your roots began to show, sampling the blood which laid bountiful and spilled.
  156.
  157. Together you would feast, chatting about nothing in particular as you did, then promising to meet up again some time. You’d manage to convince him back over to the Standing Stones, if only to get him heal a bit, his wing damaged during that trip which had almost claimed his life. Only the youth of the Plated Hog had kept something worse from happening, its tusks had not yet grown in for gouging foes.
  158.
  159. The only happier news would be how you managed to learn Vitamancy by the very end of a long slow time, your energies now directed towards figuring out a good way of making yourself, or any allies less likely to die.
  160.
  161. This proved a success.
