  1. Why does the world seem so predatory?
  2. I see all the things around me
  3. And I see sights of carnage
  4. Sights of death
  5. Sights of loss
  6. Sights of destruction
  7.
  8. I see the day transform itself into the night
  9. And an all-pervasive chill permeates the air
  10. I shiver and moan but must continue to walk
  11. Until such a point as I could come to a stop
  12.
  13. I see poor people
  14. Living in hovels
  15. As smoke and fire are released
  16. In the coldness of the night
  17. It provides much-needed warmth
  18.
  19. I see beggars asking for whatever change
  20. That people can provide
  21.
  22. I see crime and violence
  23. And I see the uncertainty that seems to be part of the psyche
  24. In all this uncertainty
  25. I myself grow uncertain
  26.
  27. I keep walking
  28. And I see people in line
  29. Waiting for soup and bread
  30. They are in despair
  31. And long for a full meal
  32. But must instead settle for brief sustenance
  33.
  34. I see small children running in the streets
  35. Shots ring out and shouts are heard
  36. Yet the children seem unfazed by the events around them
  37.
  38. I smile at the children
  39. They have tried to preserve their innocence
  40. In a world which has seemingly fought against it
  41.
  42. The children are smiling
  43. A boy runs merrily
  44. A girl runs merrily
  45. Her hair flies in the wind
  46. And neither of them
  47. Have a care in the world
  48.
  49. I keep walking and I see flames emanating from a building
  50. I hear shouts and yells coming from the building
  51. I hear the voices of individuals
  52. Who try desperately to escape from the fire
  53. But who fail to do so
  54.
  55. One girl's piercing scream
  56. Will forever remain in my memory
  57.
  58. Their voices will continue to remain in my mind
  59. But I needed to move on
  60. I could not linger in that place
  61. I needed to head to my solitary abode
  62.
  63. There I could rest and prepare myself
  64. For this frightening new world
  65.
  66. I kept walking
  67. I kept walking
  68. And hunger also washed over me
  69.
  70. I saw destruction as police officers struggled to control the citizens
  71. People began to rob, steal, and loot
  72. Some of the police continued to do the task they had been trained to do
  73. Others, however, abandoned all hope
  74. And let the citizens engage in all sorts of havoc
  75.
  76. I kept on walking
  77. And after some time
  78. I finally saw my abode
  79.
  80. I smiled upon seeing it
  81. At last
  82. I could finally find solitude and tranquility
  83.
  84. I entered the apartment complex
  85. But found it to be in a complete state of disarray
  86. The lobby had been completely ransacked
  87. The elevators no longer worked
  88. Throughout the apartment
  89. The stench of death permeated every corner of the building
  90.
  91. I rushed up the stairs to the fourth floor
  92. There was the apartment where I lived in
  93. I saw that the door was no longer there
  94. Inside, the apartment was laid barren
  95. And very little items remained
  96. Inside the apartment
  97. I rushed to my bedroom
  98. And there I grabbed those few things which had not yet been taken
  99. They were nearly all of minor use to me
  100. But I nonetheless wished to have them with me
  101.
  102. I grabbed them all and placed them on a fallen plastic bag
  103. And saw that my bedroom had nothing whatsoever in it
  104. All the things I had were gone
  105. And nothing remained
  106.
  107. I left my apartment
  108. And ran down the stairs
  109. All the things in the life I knew
  110. Had gone away
  111.
  112. I did still have my wallet at least
  113. And I still had my life
  114. For those small things
  115. I could only be grateful
  116.
  117. Now back upon the streets
  118. I kept on walking
  119. I kept on walking
  120. But hunger ultimately crept over me once more
  121. Since I had not eaten in a while
  122. I knew I needed food to eat
  123.
  124. However, I did see a restaurant in a corner
  125. Almost miraculously, it had not been looted
  126. I therefore entered and ordered a meal there
  127. After some waiting
  128. I ate the food
  129. It was delicious
  130.
  131. After paying for the food
  132. I left the restaurant
  133. And continued on walking
  134.
  135. Tiredness, however began to set itself upon me
  136. It was late at night
  137. And I needed sleep
  138. Sleep, however, was proving something harder and harder to do
  139. In a world that had fallen to chaos
  140.
  141. I kept on walking
  142. And ultimately arrived upon a park
  143. There I found a patch of smooth grass
  144. There were no bugs there
  145. And I felt a sense of comfort there
  146. I laid myself upon the grass
  147. And before long I fell asleep
  148. While I was asleep
  149. A sense of peaceful bliss passed over me
  150. The world may have been under chaos
  151. But as I slept
  152. Peace and tranquility reigned me
  153.
  154. I saw at that moment
  155. That the world seems predatory
  156. Because humans are,
  157. due to their very nature,
  158. predatory.
  159. Therefore, the world will continue to be predatory
  160.
  161. I am a predator
  162. You are a predator
  163. We're all predators
  164. But we all have moments
  165. Of solitary peace within us
  166.
  167. We may not always be peaceful
  168. As the predatory instinct will release itself
  169. But if we work for strengthening that solitary peace
  170. We just might be able to bring forth a new world.
