  30.
  31. >Archaeotech Components
  32. Jovian-Pattern 4 Plasma Drive: The Mechanicus is interested in this drive, which provides greater speed to the vessel while taking up less space than modern drives.
  33. Saturnine-Pattern Auger Array: A now lost pattern of auger system, the Saturnine is capable of conducting incredibly detailed scans of its targets from a greater distance than modern arrays. The Mechanicus would love to acquire the array or have the opportunity to worship it.
  34.
  35. >Past History: Wrested from a Space Hulk
  36. The ship has been recovered from a space hulk - a mass of wrecked ships that drifts intermittently through the warp and realspace. The ship is very old (and thus of high quality), but those who know of its origins whisper that it is cursed. The ship gains +1 Armour, +1 Speed, and +3 Manoeuvrability. However, every time the crew suffers a Misfortune, the GM rolls twice and chooses the worse of the two. The curse can have many other effects as well, many ill, but a truly skilled Rogue Trader can turn any situation to profit...
  37.
  38. >Complication: A Nose for Trouble
  39. Something about this ship quivers at the thought of battle, always probing the cosmos for a new victim. Add +5 to the ship’s Detection, and reduce this ship’s Armour by 1, due to its many battles. Occasionally, the crew may find themselves in fights they might have preferred to avoid.

  41. >Biography
  42. "His Express Permission" is a mystery within Battlefleet Ultima. Recovered from the space hulk "Nightmares Untold" in 208.M38 following the Callian Resurgence, she was immediately claimed by the Adeptus Mechanicus for study, then just as suddenly returned to the Imperial Navy for recommissioning and returned to active service. Once accepted, she was sequestered within a drydock orbiting Kar Duniash, where rumors abounded as to the nature of the hidden and isolated reconstruction process. For nearly a decade, oath-bound techwrights and trusted dockyard hands worked to refit and rebuild the shattered cruiser, utilizing the most advanced Mechanicus technologies to return the "Permission" to her former glory. They failed, as most such attempts do, but the vessel that left the docks of Kar Duniash is one of the most advanced in the sector and perhaps the segmentum.
  43.
  44. The archives of Mars tell the story: Commissioned as the "Incisive Insight" several decades before the start of the Great Crusade, the cruiser was outfitted for the Mechanicus' own crusades into the galaxy. Upon the union of Earth and Mars, the Insight became the flagship of 93rd Deep-Space Flotilla, scouting ahead of the main fleets of the Emperor's Great Crusade. For centuries this proud vessel served to bring the flag of the Imperium to countless lost worlds and served as the Emperor's spear in cleansing distant xenos empires and recaltricant independent worlds. In the dark times of the Horus Heresy, the "Insight" was leading the flotilla along the southern rim of what would become the Ultima Segmentum and was drawn into the conflicts centered upon the Ultramarine's holdings. Here again the flotilla and the "Insight" proved themselves, for which they would eventually be given the right to carry the banner of the Imperium as the flagship of one of the great fleets that forged the Imperium during the Age of Rebirth.
  45.
  46. During the dark years of the Nova Terra Interregnum, the "Insight" was lost along with a large portion of her fleet during the ill-starred wars that resulted from the Cataclysm of Souls. Sent on an expedition to subdue the rebellions of the Molanth sub-sector on the border of the Segmentums Pacificus and Obscurus, the punitive fleet was ambushed by the reaver "Kollat Vall" (cross-ref: Korrad Vall, The Pirates of Iniquity) as it approached the forgeworld of Tryvain. Pressed against the gravity well of a large gas giant and cut off from the support of the forgeworld's defenses, the "Insight" led the fleet in initiating a desperate warp jump in a bid to escape certain destruction, and was lost for three millenia.
  47.
  48. Her recovery in M38 was met with great joy and trepidation by the Adeptus Mechanicus. While her ruined shell promised the possibility of great archaeotech finds, the effect of the vessel's long sojourn within the warp could not be anticipated. Indeed, pessimistic estimates of the vessel's condition predicted that she would have to be scrapped for parts. Fortunately, this proved not to be the case. Though the vessel was infested with hostile xenoforms (cross-ref: Xeno-113802 "Tyraxus") and the "Insight's" forward decks were smashed beyond use, it seemed that the Adeptus Mechanicus had recovered a long-lost child. Preparations were made to sail the vessel back to the yards of Mars for study and reconsecration before the intervention of Callian Sector Lord Mortan Mogul and Lord Admiral Callian Brejos Torovas. The losses to Battlefleet Callian during the events of the Resurgence had created a capital ship vacuum that urgently needed to be filled, and neither lord was willing to see such a powerful vessel disappear to distant Mars. The political wrangling that followed was swiftly settled by the sudden incursion of Waagh Grabba into the Callian Sector and the war that followed.
  49.
  50. The rebuilding process was plagued by mishaps and delays, either due to the curse of the warp, as voidsmen whispered, or sabotage and delays engineered by the Adeptus Mechanicus in the hopes that the vessel would be kept out of the Callian war. Much of the cruiser's armaments had been lost, crushed to scrap by the harsh tides of the warp and were replaced by large amounts of adamantium cladding and more modern equipment. The notable exception, the Jovian missile batteries, were also recovered from the "Nightmares Untold." However, most of the cruiser's core sections, which contained such treasures as her near-unique auger array and ancient warp systems, remained intact. Reconsecrated and blessed as "His Express Permission," but deemed unnecessary to the Callian sector's needs following the defeat of Waagh Grabba a year before her reconstruction was completed, the lords of Ultima Segmentum were loath to see such a powerful warship lost to the techpriests of Mars. While tied up in negotiations, "His Express Permission" was dispatched to the Eastern Fringe on long-term patrol.
  51.
  52. There, the vessel's troublesome nature would come to light. The Permission earned a reputation as a troubled ship, prone to ominous events and finding itself at the heart of trouble. The nature of its machine-spirit had always lent itself to dragging the crew into unexpected situations, such as uncovering the build-up of Waagh Axebiter by rematerializing in the midst of a massive Ork fleet and getting the jump on an Inquisitorial strike force that had been cornered by Chaos reavers. However, its long time in the Warp also seemed to weigh on the Permission; a tragic misfire of her macrobatteries led to the death of her entire senior crew on the Feast of the Emperor's Ascension in 782 M.39, and a sudden warp drive failure led to the stranding of the vessel in the void between stars for nearly a month, and a faction of the frightened crew attempted to effect a mutiny. Despite the quality and provenance of the vessel, she was regarded as being cursed by an ill-star by most of the Battlefleet.
  53.
  54. Captain Elyssa von Braun was assigned to the "His Express Permission" roughly twelve years before becoming Planetary Governor of Daysimir and retained her command of the vessel upon her ascension. (I have no idea what our history is, so this is mostly blank.)
