Lanturn is one of the best Assault vest users in PU that can apply a lot of pressure to teams by consistently forcing in Pokemon like Hitmonchan and grabbing momentum. This combined with Lanturn's great defensive typing and ability to blanket check a plethora of special attackers including Omastar, Oricorio-G, Swanna, Mesprit, and most variants of Pyroar lets it solidify a place on several offensive teams as one of the best specially offensive pivots available. Lanturn benefits from recent metagame changes as it no longer has to pick coverage for checks such as Gastrodon and Ferroseed. Its access to a slow Volt Switch means it can always pivot out of Pokemon that can check it like Clefairy to grab momentum and give a free switch to a teammate like Stoutland. Lightning Rod users like Togedemaru, Ground-types such as Mudsdale, and Pokemon that resist its STAB attacks like Altaria and Alolan Exeggutor, struggle to switch in safely due to Lanturn's fantastic coverage options of Scald and Ice Beam. Lanturn formes an excellent VoltTurn core with Scyther, which pressures the opposing team and weakens checks to both. Even though Lanturn has flaws concerning its lack of reliable recovery and physical bulk, this does not stop it from being a defining force in the metagame!
