- <The scene opens in a warm, cozy home. It’s the perfect picture of a peaceful life.>
- [The faint sound of a clock ticking and birds chirping.]
- Speaker (their voice soft and loving, as they step in from another room):
- “Good morning, my love!”
- --The listener stirs, as they begin to wake up, completely unaware of their previous situation. They blink up at the speaker, almost confused but relaxed, still half-dazed from sleep.--
- [Rustling of sheets]
- Speaker (lovingly):
- “You look so beautiful when you wake up. How did you sleep? Did you dream of anything?”
- [The speaker runs a hand through the listener’s hair.]
- --Listener replies they had a dream about being chased through a dark forest.--
- Speaker (sympathetic):
- “That sounds terrifying! Well thankfully it was just a bad dream, nothing more. I wonder if it’s because you’ve been so tired lately because of work. All that stress building up, causing you to feel the need to run, which is why you felt you were being chased in that dream. Not to mention, you were out cold for about 10 hours now, you must have been exhausted!”
- (BRIEF PAUSE, then playfully)
- “You know what, let me treat you to some breakfast. It’s the weekend so there’s no need to worry about doing anything today. You deserve a break after working so hard over these past two weeks. You can just sit back, relax, and I’ll be right back, okay?”
- [The speaker gives the listener a kiss on the forehead, and heads to the kitchen, softly shutting the door, humming softly to themselves.]
- [The room is filled with the faint sounds of everyday life, birds chirping, humming, a stove being lit, the soft clink of pots, pans, and plates.]
- --The listener opens the door and begins to move around the house, maybe looking at pictures on the walls, images of them together, smiling. But they never remember having taken these pictures. They head into the kitchen to help cook.--
- [*Soft creak of a door opening, footfalls on carpet/wood*]
- Speaker (warmly)
- “Oh hello my love, you surprised me! I thought you were resting still. Are you feeling anxious?”
- --Listener: “I guess so. I just wanted to see if you needed any help.”--
- Speaker (warmly)
- “You’re so thoughtful. Sure, if you want to help, do you mind fetching me two eggs from the fridge?”
- [The speaker turns back and starts humming to themselves again.]
- --Listener opens the fridge and sets the eggs on the counter next to the speaker.--
- [*Fridge door opening*, *buzzing light bulb*, *clink of eggs being set on counter*.]
- Speaker (warmly)
- “Thank you my love.”
- [Another kiss to the forehead]
- <Unexpectedly, a kettle begins to whistle, and the lights in the kitchen begin flickering. During this, the listener suddenly sees a fox’s shadow and the speaker’s face begins to distort and appear more foxlike. Then everything returns to normal, but the listener’s memories begin to return, and they stumble backwards.>
- [Kettle whistling, *flickering lights*, *crackling*, *fizzing*, *ringing*.]
- Speaker (voice panicked, but trying to hide fear)
- [Sets down the pan to go check on the listener, and moves the kettle from the hot stove.]
- “Woah!!! Hey!! Careful, are you alright my love? Are you feeling dizzy?”
- “Here…”
- [Speaker pulls out a chair]
- “Take a seat here and rest for a bit. I’ll go grab you some water, just hold on for one second, alright?”
- -- As the speaker reaches for the listener, their eyes widen in horror. They begin to push back as the speaker approaches them. “This isn’t real!”--
- Speaker (worried)
- [Grabs the listener by the shoulders.]
- “What has gotten into you?! Look at me! This is real, I am real, all of this is real. What would make you think otherwise?!”
- --The listener shouts “No this is all wrong, that dream, you were in it, but… it wasn’t actually a dream!” --
- Speaker (sternly)
- “What do you mean it wasn’t a dream? Of course it was, you’ve just been stressed and it’s getting to you! You need to rest; you shouldn’t be pushing yourself so hard!”
- --The listener begins to stammer, “I saw your shadow, and then your face, it changed… you looked like a fox… You’re not human, I remember I was being chased by you in the woods, but you changed there too. You’re the fox!!”--
- Speaker (disbelief)
- “Huh… a fox?”
- [BRIEF PAUSE]
- Speaker (light laughter)
- “A fox you say! How amusing!”
- (Playful with a dark edge.)
- “Oh you silly little thing. You’ve got quite the observant yet troublesome eye on you. My dear, whether you wanted it or not, this is the life we were always meant to share…”
- (Possessively)
- “…to be with me… forever.”
- --As the listener tries to gather their thoughts, a more intense “glitch” occurs. The room distorts for a brief moment, and there is a low static noise that occurs for a few seconds. They try to make run for it, even with no idea where they could go, but the speaker grabs hold of them.--
- [*flickering lights*, *static*, *crackling*, *fizzing*, *ringing*.]
- Speaker (laughing softly, taunting)
- “Ah-ah, darling, where would you run to anyways?”
- --The listener struggles, again trying to regain their memories.--
- Speaker (taunting, becoming increasingly deranged and possessive)
- “Oh mouse, are you having trouble recalling your old life? You can feel those memories slipping, can’t you? I’ve already erased most of them, there’s just a few stubborn ones left, but it doesn’t matter anymore, soon enough those memories will be gone too. Then we can go back to this perfect life I have made for you here. I can tend to your needs, provide for you, you’ll be cherished and loved each and every day. Then I can share with you my secret again, that I am no ordinary human, how special you’ll feel about knowing such an enigma. From there, I can wrap you in my tails as we embrace in our more intimate moments, show you my fox fires... getting married during a sun shower, oh I can see it. Can’t you? We can spend an eternity together. You just have to forget your old life and be mine, and mine alone.”
- (Hums softly as they begin to imagine this ideal life, then low and softly)
- “Doesn’t that sound nice, my little mouse? Come now, stop struggling and just submit those last memories of your life, and fully, truly, be mine.”
- *Audio can end with a cutoff, or a black out that loops back to the beginning of the script.*
