TIFU by snorting lysol

a case of the Mondays, happened just a few mins ago


I work in a hospital, I'm IT. I've been working remotely from my desk as much as possible lately, but sometimes I have to venture out into the world. With all the germs around here and everything going on I've procured myself a proper reusable mask (antimicrobial interfacing inside, etc.. ) to wear when I have to go out. I hang it on a thing by my desk, and I always give it a little spritz of lysol when I get back to my desk after I take it off to sanitize. it's always dry by the time I use it again, and then I wash it every evening after work.

Today I went to go somewhere and I reached for my mask. For some reason, known only to a higher power, I auto pilot picked up the lysol, gave the mask a good douse (way more than I ever normally would) and then promptly stuck it on my face. As is my routine I take a deep calming breath in through the nose and out through my mouth before standing up to leave, only this time I get a good snoutfull of lysol and immediately the world as I know it disappears and I'm launched into a star filled void of blackness, Burning pain, tears, and snot.

Ripped the mask off, took about 10 mins to wash my face and gather myself, but now my eyes are red and puffy, my nose is runny, and my head is pounding. The only person I've seen since I left my office definitely didn't believe my answer when they questioned me about my eyes and sniffy nose. only a matter of time I'm sure before some manager finds me and gets me sent home XP feel like I'm in for a looong week if this is how it starts

Tl;DR - sprayed my reusable mask with lysol before immediately before sticking it on my face and getting a nose full, now I look totally sick and am probably going to get sent home very shortly.
