  1. ABOUT THIS GUIDE
  2.
  3. This guide is meant to help you out if you want to try to beat Pokémon Red/Blue with using only the Charmander line in a speedrun (excluding HM Slaves). It is assumed you know the basics of Red Speedrun such as items and fights locations.
  4. This guide was developed by me (Xminiblinder) and Pinkish_Princess.
  5.
  6. BEFORE START THE GAME
  7.
  8. Set your options to FAST, OFF, SET
  9.
  10. THE ROUTE
  11.
  12. Pick PC Potion, and check Charmander Stats BEFORE Rival 1 fight. The stats you are looking for is 11/9/12/11. Reset if you don't get it (we are looking for good attack and special, defense can be any value and 12 speed is 5+ dv so this should take too long to get).
  13.
  14. Rival 1: Scratch Spam. Squirtle, at 9 defense (worst case scenario) does 4/6/8 damage (0/-1 or crit/-2). Heal if in death range.
  15.
  16. Fight 2 lvl 3 encounters at route 1 (pick the mart guy potion if you got heavily damaged and used the PC potion on Rival 1). If you don't find any, grind for 1 encounter (any level would do) and then fight/grind an encounter after getting ember (if the 1st encounter is a lvl 2 you need to kill, level 3 weedlee will not give you enough xp for lvl 11 for Brock so run from it).
  17.
  18. Pick the tree potion and also the hidden antidote in Virdian Forest (we fight both optionals here and both have weedles)
  19.
  20. BC1: Scratch Spam
  21.
  22. Use Antidote after battle if necessary
  23.
  24. BC2:
  25.
  26. Weedle: Scratch Spam
  27. Kakuna: Swap Ember to slot 1 a + Ember (+ Ember)
  28. Weedle: Ember
  29.
  30. Pick and use the Antidote if you are poisoned and have spent your Antidote already
  31.
  32. Weedle Guy: Ember (+ Ember)
  33.
  34. SHOPPING:
  35.
  36. 4 Pokéballs
  37. 7 Potions
  38. 1 Awakening
  39. 2 Antidotes (95 left)
  40.
  41. Heal to full (or really close) and swap Pokeballs to slot 1 (unless you know how to slot 2 buffer) before Brock.
  42.
  43. Brock (saving might be a good call but is up to you):
  44.
  45. Geodude: Ember spam (7 with worst special possible). He does around 7 damage with tackle (assuming bad defense) so heal if 7- (crit does around 11/12).
  46.
  47. Onix: Generally speaking, this fight is Ember spam but take in consideration the following:
  48.
  49. Note 1: Onix damage is about the same that Geodude does. I advise to heal if you are 12-
  50. Note 2: If Onix screeches, his non crit tackle does 14 instead, so I advise you to growlx2 if this happens unless you are about to kill him
  51. Note 3: If he bides, use growl x2. The ember you hit 1st will do 8/10/12 damage to you (depends on damage roll and special DV. Crit will do 12/15/18) so heal if necessary.
  52. Note 4: Onix is a 9 shot (assuming no crits and bad special dv)
  53.
  54. Center before going to Route 3
  55.
  56. Bc 1: Ember x3
  57.
  58. Shorts Guy: Ember + Ember, Ember + Ember (+EMber)
  59.
  60. Bc 2: Ember x4
  61.
  62. Lass (?): Ember x2 each poke (121 + 127 xp, 150 money) -> still on testing if it is worth
  63.
  64. Bc 3: Ember + Ember
  65.
  66. Catch a Flyer (it has to be a Pidgey or a Level 7+ Spearow, scratch x1 to damage it and throw a ball)
  67.
  68. Do Route 3 Moon Manip (or other manip you are confortable with. The important is to get WG, for money, Candy, Escape Rope and MP)
  69.
  70. Note: PoY works with normal yoloball
  71.
  72. (Possibility, rt3 manip till the Youngster with rat x2 (E is a range) and 1x zubat (MP or E + Scratch), for 121 + 121 + 115 and 150 money)
  73.
