- Ultimate Fire TV Privacy & Anti-Update Hardening Guide
- (For Any Router — Use At Your Own Risk — Legal to Configure Your Own Devices)
- ⚠️ Disclaimer
- This guide is 100% legal, but you assume all risk. Blocking Amazon update infrastructure may cause features to break or apps to stop receiving updates. This guide is provided for educational and privacy purposes only.
- 🔥 1. Disable Amazon Updates (All Generations up to Fire OS 8)
- Add these domains to your router’s blocklist:
- amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net softwareupdates.amazon.com updates.amazon.com amzdigitaldownloada.akamaihd.net amazonupdates.com firmwareupdates.amazon.com ota-device-prod-na.amazon.com amzdigitaldownload.blob.core.windows.net fireos-us.amazon.com fireos-update.amazon.com device-metrics-us.amazon.com spectrum.s3.amazonaws.com (backup CDN)
- Block these IP ranges at the router (Amazon update CDNs):
- 23.0.0.0/8 52.0.0.0/8 54.0.0.0/8 99.86.0.0/16 205.251.192.0/19
- 🔥 2. Router Hardening (Any Router / Any ISP)
- Disable the following if your router allows it:
- • UPnP • Remote Management • WPS • DMZ • Port Forwarding (unless you use it) • ALG / Pass‑Through toggles (leave OFF except PPTP if your ISP requires it)
- Strengthen WiFi:
- • WPA3 (or WPA2-AES if older devices) • Disable WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) • Hide SSID optional but not required
- 🔥 3. VPN Protection for All Fire Devices
- Recommended settings:
- • Use WireGuard or Similar • Enable Auto‑Connect: On All Networks • Threat Protection → Always • Turn off IPv6 on router if possible • Enable WebRTC blocking in browser
- Some VPN's on Fire TV devices do not have a Kill Switch, but some VPNs use:
- • VPN Failure Auto‑Reconnect • App‑level traffic halting during reconnection
- This acts similar to a kill switch.
- 🔥 4. Browser Privacy Settings (Brave Browser)
- In Brave go to: brave://settings/privacy If this doesn't work, use link below:
- Turn ON:
- • Block WebRTC IP handling • Block cross‑site trackers • Block fingerprinting • Force HTTPS • Disable "Allow sites to check if payment methods are saved"
- Then verify at:
- • browserleaks.com/webrtc • dnsleaktest.com
- 🔥 5. Fire TV Device Level Tweaks
- Turn off all tracking options:
- Settings → Preferences → Privacy Settings
- • Interest‑based ads: OFF • Device Usage Data: OFF • Collect App Usage Data: OFF • Data Monitoring: OFF
- Disable Appstore auto-updates:
- Settings → Applications → Appstore → Auto-Updates → OFF
- Disable ADB Debugging unless needed:
- Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → ADB Debugging → OFF
- 🔥 6. Extreme Measures (Optional)
- These block even more fallback update servers:
- aiv-delivery.net d2s2kb1v1g8w0j.cloudfront.net d1xfray82862hr.cloudfront.net ota-firetv.s3.amazonaws.com s3.amazonaws.com (global catch‑all – may break cloud apps)
- Use these only if you know the risks.
- 🔥 7. Confirm Your Blocklist Works
- From a phone NOT on your Wi-Fi: Visit:
- • https://canyouseeme.org Check ports 80, 443, 4070, 1935 All should say Connection Refused / Timed Out.
- Then on Fire TV:
- • Try checking for updates → Should fail. • Apps should still work normally.
- 🔥 8. Notes About Legality
- Blocking updates on your own hardware is legal. Modifying Amazon's software is not. This guide only covers legal configuration steps.
- This is what I said I would add yesterday to the guide most all of you already know or have followed. I just wanted it to be easy to read and I added the use at your own risk and legal, because it is. Anyway, here it is, just extra F-You Steps 🤪
- Some of this should be done regardless to secure your Network anyway:
