  1. Ace Ventura's hard pivot into more kid friendly fair made for a far better feature comedy experience. The first movie is a nonstarter.
  2. Zero confidence in it's script, no concern for the audience, a lack of any interest in it's character. It's largely the Jim Carey film most lacking in any substance. I don't watch it, I don't quote it, I don't smell it.
  3. However -
  4. 'When Nature Calls' showcases a lot of excellent Character acting by Jim as the titular Ace. and If you can stomach the second half of the film's racist depictions of native African peoples or the brief scene of the Tibetan Monks who are sick of Ace intruding upon their studies, the film frequently executes on a far more significant confidence in its script, and relies less on just Jim to adlib physical gags at whim. Overall it maintains the positive illusion of a live action cartoon, which works in it's favor when it asks you to engage with the film's one dimensional characters. The Movie is entirely more interested in giving you a reason to identify with Ace as an outsider individual than the first film, and it's all the better for it, as Ace goes through a series of arcs over the Movie's runtime and has more opportunities to showcase his efforts to champion the autonomy of Animals.
  5.
  6. While not as strong, the Ace Ventura Cartoon showcases a significantly higher amount of integrity, perhaps entirely on accident, since it's squarely aimed at children. At least compared to a handful of other Children's Comedy shows being produced in the 90s, Pet Detective is keen to allow for indulgences outside of the expected and Ace employs more Animal like behaviors across adventures. Not unlike it's predecessor 'The Mask The Animated Series, it employs a highly economical approach to it's Animation that is still an impressive effort at the most random of times. I cannot really speak to the quality of ether's cousin
  7. Dumb and Dumber the Animated series though, as those character never really interested me, so I have not seen this adaptation.
  8.
  9. If I were given creative control of Ace Ventura, I would ensure that it's a comedic Mystery that everyone can enjoy, with no racism or transphobia. The Potential of the character has yet to truly be explored, and my mind whirls with all sort of possibilities that could both enrich and harshly correct the previous writer's works.
