  1. NB. The latest version of iOS recognises QR codes directly from the camera app.
  2.
  3. #Usage
  4. * RYI notice to be placed next to a stationary iPad at exhibition stand.
  5. * Encourages people to register while your attention or person is elsewhere. Or if screen has turned off.
  6. * QR code allows people to register on their own devices.
  7. * Alternative to passing around iPad during busier presentations.
  8. * Share a single user-friendly shortlink verbally.
  9. * QR code on presentation slides.
  10.
  11. #QR codes and shortlinks
  12. * Each person has a QR code corresponding to a shortlink in format tiny.cc/uclfirstname, e.g. tiny.cc/uclaameer.
  13. * The QR code will always go to your shortlink, but you can always change where the shortlink goes.
  14. * This means that you don’t need a new QR code for each event.
  15. * In practice, you would usually link tiny.cc/uclfirstname to the GeckoForm URL for an upcoming event. After that event has passed, you would change it to the URL for the next event.
  16. * Note that you can link the QR code to any URL, not just GeckoForm.
  17.
  18. #Instructions
  19. GeckoForm event links
  20. * You can create a URL that is specific to an event in the GeckoForm web app: https://app.geckoform.com in any browser, including your phone. This is displayed in the video.
  21. 1. Go to *Forms* in the sidebar.
  22. 2. Choose the relevant form. Normally *Education fair template - Overseas fair/exhibition for exhibitions and mixed events. Normally *High School Visit Enquiry Form* for school visits.
  23. 3. Open the *Share* tab.
  24. 4. Choose an event under *Event & Session Assignment*. You can prepopulate fields but I advise against this for now because this feature is buggy. Gecko Labs is aware.
  25. 4. Click *Update Link*.
  26. 5. Copy the new *Sharing Link* (i.e. an event link).
  27.
  28. #Editing shortlinks
  29. 1. Visit tiny.cc and log in:
  30. Username: aameer
  31. Password: Bentham1826
  32. 2. Find your shortlink (e.g. tiny.cc/uclaameer) and tick the checkbox to select it.
  33. 3. Click the edit button at the top (the pencil icon).
  34. 4. Paste your new URL into the form field under. For example, paste the event link that you made using the *GeckoForm event links* instructions above. Leave *(2) Tiny link* as it is.
  35. 5. Click *update this link*.
  36.
  37. #Tips
  38. 1. Prepare GeckoForm URLs in advance.
  39. Why? If you anticipate the need to change QR code destination without access to a computer and are not confident about doing this on a phone (the *editing shortlinks* steps are definitely simple enough for a phone, as long as you zoom in).
  40. * Go through steps above to produce an event link for all of the relevant events.
  41. * Paste these links into something that you can access from your phone, such as an email or a synced notes app.
  42. * After event 1, copy the link for event 2 and follow *editing shortlinks* instructions above.
  43.
  44. 2. Event URL naming conventions.
  45. Why? Edit shortlink destinations more easily.
  46. * This is an example of a GeckoForm event URL: https://app-eu.geckoform.com/public/#/modern/FObhQ5sxAjAcCG9r?event_id=160
  47. * A GeckoForm event URL has multiple variables (in bold above)
  48. * The form (in this case, *Register your interest*): https://app-eu.geckoform.com/public/#/modern/FObhQ5sxAjAcCG9r
  49. * The event (in this case, QS WGST London): ?event_id=160
  50. * Prepopulated fields (many)
  51. * If you know the codes for the form and the event ID, you can get around going to the GeckoForm website.
  52.
  53. 3. Link your QR code to multiple forms.
  54. Why? Various reasons.
  55. * This is not recommended because it is inelegant and because multi-link services are generally unreliable. Bit.ly bundles was great but it was shuttered a few years ago.*
  56. * [LinkBunch](http://linkbun.ch/) and [BridgeURL](http://bridgeurl.com) can provide a single link that lists a number of URLs.
  57. * Produce multiple event links as per *GeckoForm event links* instructions above.
  58. * Paste these as instructed by LinkBunch or BridgeURL.
  59. * You will be given a a new link that will take visitors to a list of the links you listed in the previous step. Copy it.
  60. * Paste the new link as the destination for your tiny.cc link, as per *editing shortlinks* instructions above.
  61.
  62. #RYI notice
  63. Shortlink is not included.
  64. It would make it too text heavy.
  65. * It would encourage photos.
  66. * If you went to the shortlink later the destination might already have changed to a future event.
  67. * High contrast QS World University Rankings 2018 colours.
  68. * Number indicator in bottom-left corner:
  69. * 1: Aameer
  70. * 2: Alex
  71. * 3: Alice
  72. * 4: Andy
  73. * 5: Anna
  74. * 6: Annett
  75. * 7: Arvind
