- it's kinda like Alien Vs. Predator
- with symbies and fae respectively
- the fae crash is due to an onboard symbie infestation
- and some of the pods that dropped have symbies on them
- so players who use symbiote suits found pods that were infested
- the symbies are kinda like the flood in that they can form basic forms from whatever, but larger/more intelligent forms require a host
- the commander-rank symbies (i.e. PCs) are particularly wilful hosts who can resist the overriding impulses of the symbie hivemind
- and the symbies require extraterrestrial trace minerals, so they gravitate towards and attack concentrations of fae tech i.e. unclaimed pods and suits
- the fae are sitting in a parking orbit, almost completely silent except for a short message demanding the return of their pods (which was promptly ignored because wahey power armour)
- they managed to clean their ship of the symbie infestation and now want to scrape up their dropped stuff before they go back home and report in
- there's a whole fae interstellar empire out there that they came from
- the fae are pretty much just elves IN SPACE
- outwardly approximating human but with pointy ears, long lives and sufficiently advanced technology that is indistinguishable from magic
- the pods were their cargo, and were supposed to be resupply drops for fae troops elsewhere
- The fae have basically mastered the art of nanofabrication
- They can turn a room of base elements into vehicles, medicine, weapons, even simple living tissues
- So all a fae soldier has to do is ask a pod to make a thing and it spits it out
- The 200 points represents the total raw matierials present in the pod's stores
- Find another pod, and you can make more things
- Humans can hack them, symbies eat them for nutrients
- That's how unclaimed pods give more suit points to characters
- the fae pods are 12 feet/4m tall
- So they can comfortably hold a built Superheavy suit inside
- Along with the assembly equipment and feedstock
- The guide fins go even higher up
- They kinda look like...
- But with only one door, the back 2/3 is solid
- So a fae soldier can walk inside and tell the onboard dumb AI to make a hundred rounds of HEAP for his rifle, a dozen medikits for his squad, a pair of replacement eyes floating in a little bag of aminotic fluid, or even a brand new suit (but something as big, complex and dense as a suit tends to strain the pod's stores)
- The fae go to war against the symbiotes in suits, similar to how Reclaimers in Halo wore power armour to avoid infection
- The fae pretty much have dominion over their area of space, and tend to steamroll lesser civillisations for their planets, colonial-style
- fae pilots!
- So the progentior upgrade is meant to be a supersoldier pack for frontline soldiers
- But when humans use it, it partially overwrites their bodies and DNA and creates a human-fae hybrid
- They're faster, stronger, healthier and form closer bonds than unaugmented humans or fae. Tank could probably benchpress Silver.
- Hence how quickly and closely EF has bonded, being a bunch of fae pilots sitting together in a tiny dropship with nothing much to do
- > I just wondered, how powerful are the symbies?
- Same power level as suits. It was my intention that they'd be a paralell option for character creation.
- That's just PC symbies though
- There could be huge/clever symbie NPCs of varying powerlevels
- Fae suits are significantly more powerful than most of both, as they're more familliar with the tech and have access to facilites on their ship. They're kinda like boss-level characters.
