  1. All religions are based on the same foundation.
  2.
  3. In order to deconstruct all human belief systems on life we will need to use a religion as an example. We will be deconstructing Scientology as that example.
  4.
  5. Keep in mind throughout this article that that what we are deconstructing is not Scientology itself but all human beliefs on life, including the beliefs you may hold dear today.
  6.
  7. When reading this article please keep in mind that it is not a goal to single out, criticize or poke fun at any religion. Keep these points in mind:
  8.
  9. •Scientology, like any organized religion, has probably helped just as many as it has hurt. This does not make it completely good nor does it make it completely bad.
  10.
  11. •The way this religion is founded is what we are trying to understand because this founding process (the foundation) relates to all organized religions. That founding is what we are concerned with, not the doctrine.
  12.
  13. •The man who founded this religion is no longer around. Like any religion handed over to a "new set of leaders", we can watch as the religion changes dramatically in the post-founder transition phase.
  14.
  15. •To think that one science fiction author in the 1950's could create a religion that spreads worldwide in only a few decades should be fascinating to any student of the human condition. It should even be fascinating to a Scientologist, because this point is a historically recorded fact.
  16.
  17.
  18. That said, while this article references the CoS, this article is about the CoS just as much as it is about Hinduism. This article is about deconstructing all human beliefs on life using one example.
  19.
  20. The first key to understanding human beliefs is to realize that the human condition has not changed in millennia. Human beings are fundamentally the same today as they were 5,000 years ago. The same techniques to start a religion or cult would not be fundamentally different than they would be 5,000 years ago.
  21.
  22. That said, it matters not if we deconstruct a religion from 2,000 years ago or a religion like Scientology that is only decades old. At their foundation, the founding techniques and the fundamentals behind all human belief systems are fundamentally the same, as you will see.
  23.
  24. The reason we are using Scientology as an example? It is the best example to use:
  25.
  26.
  27. •It is approximately 50-60 years old. Other religions are 1,400 to over 2,500 years older. This young age gives us more accurate historical accounts from the family members and associates of those who founded the religion. We also have much more recorded history.
  28.
  29. •We know, with absolute certainty, that Scientology was founded by one man. (L. Ron Hubbard). In other religions it is not always clear who exactly founded it. It is typically one individual charismatic male who founds a religion.
  30.
  31. •We are watching the "next set" of leaders take L. Ron Hubbard's Scientology and change it into the next iteration: The "post-founder" transition. This "post-founder" transition is the most drastic transition in any religion and you can read online many accounts regarding this transition. Many seemed to leave Scientology because of the changes, creating what they call a 'free zone'.
  32.
  33. •Scientology doctrine is based on works of science fiction and the works of L. Ron Hubbard, all written in English, many of which can be purchased or found online. Other religions are based on multiple, retranslated texts written in various languages, some even translated by former Kings centuries ago who, due to human nature, altered them in the process. This language translation and altering makes the doctrine difficult to deconstruct clearly and plainly.
  34.
  35. •Even religious scholars will argue different opinions on the origins, details, foundings, goings-on of major religions. Scientology, due to it's age, is much easier to get people to agree upon due to the wide access to information today.
  36.
  37. •It uses modern indoctrination techniques based on disguised hypnosis and psychoanalysis. The field of psychology was not around when other religions were founded, so these techniques have not been employed.
  38.
  39. •It uses modern indoctrination techniques used from military recruit training. These indoctrination techniques were not refined to the level they are today when other religions were founded.
  40.
  41. •There is ample recorded history from the 1950's until now to decode exactly how it was started and how it evolved into what it is today. In other religions, recorded history is murky.
  42.
  43.
  44. Based on the above, you should now understand why we are using Scientology as the prime example. There is less debate to the authenticity of the information.
  45.
  46. All of that said, let's deconstruct the techniques used by Scientology and see if they apply to other religions:
  47.
  48. 1.It uses totemism/symbolism.
  49.
  50. 2.It uses uniforms and special apparel.
  51.
  52. 3.It is focused around the works and teachings of one man, L. Ron Hubbard. This parallels the one man of Christianity (Jesus), Islam (Mohammed) and Buddhism (Buddha), etc.
  53.
  54. 4.It is entirely male-founded, male-dominated and male-oriented. This is a fundamental part of all modern religions. The key here is having a vivid awareness that all religions are created by males due to their much higher level of narcissism which easily manifests into self-worship.
  55.
  56. 5.It uses refined adult indoctrination and child indoctrination techniques to convert a non-believer to a believer.
  57.
  58. 6.It creates creative programs to actively indoctrinate the children of believers. The indoctrination of children is universal to many religions and required for them to survive, both fundamentally and financially. It is far easier to indoctrinate the child of a believer than to establish a new adult believer.
  59.
  60. 7.It uses operant conditioning which you will find used effectively in all religious and military indoctrination. Operant conditioning, in terms of this deconstruction, is defined as forced participation with threat of punishment for non-participation.
  61.
  62. 8.It creates rigid routines and rules to follow. Common in all religious and military indoctrination.
  63.
  64. 9.It uses punishments and a system of discipline. Note: Humans love to be punished and controlled. Such is why the words "discipline" and "disciple" are closely related.
  65.
  66. 10.It has pyramid-style levels of knowledge. Like many religions, it makes life out to be a great mystery that only that particular religion holds the keys to. Scientology is unique here because it requires more and more money to unlock "higher levels" of knowledge, similar to Freemasonry or levels of a video game.
  67.
  68. 11.It makes you sign a billion year contract. Doctrine teaches you that you will return to Earth at a point in the future. This seemingly unique concept actually parallels Eastern reincarnation and the eternal afterlife of Christianity and Islam. It also parallels infinite conception, but that is an entirely different story.
  69.
  70. 12.It allows you to "start over" as a new person and gives you a new identity. This is paralleled in "born again" Christianity. This targets that normal human yearning to "become someone new", to "escape a flawed self" and create a "new self".
  71.
  72. 13.Most importantly, the effective teaching is not doctrine but self-deception, which is the fundamental component to all human belief. Self-deception is one of the principle components of the human condition and it is what allows any belief in an illusion to occur. In other words, without self-deception, there can be no belief. Animals possess no self-deception, and live entirely in the present, thus they cannot believe.
  73.
  74.
  75. As you can see, many of the components listed here are found throughout other religions. But here are several brilliant components that seem to set Scientology apart. These are the components (other than the basic doctrine) which seem to attract the most criticism:
  76.
  77.
  78. 1.It actively incorporates disguised hypnotic techniques.
  79.
  80. 2.It actively incorporates military indoctrination (recruit training) techniques.
  81.
  82. 3.It mandates that you do not listen to anything that goes against it.
  83.
  84. 4.Ex-members who are banished are "not to be spoken to", or you risk being banished yourself. This requirement to "suppress outside opposing influences" has been accounted for within Mormonism, fundamentalist Christianity and fundemantalist Islam.
  85.
  86. 5.It incorporates various psychological principles. As one example, they use an e-meter similar to what is used in a lie detector test, in conjunction with psychoanalysis (talk therapy, talking about your past, etc), as part of the indoctrination process. Many will call this psuedoscience, but the "therapist" aspect of it is probably the part that works, not the e-meter portion. Keep in mind that this component wouldn't exist if it didn't work to some extent.
  87.
  88. 6.It wants you to divulge your "secrets" [sins] that you tell them (similar to confession). The difference is that there have been accounts that these sessions have been recorded and archived. These recordings could potentially be used later against a member if they are banished and become what is called "fair game".
  89.
  90. 7.It seems to revolve primarily around acquiring money and using celebrities for promotion.
  91.
  92. 8.It seems to revolve around using the judicial system to it's advantage. IE, actively involved with lawsuits with ex-members and to attempt to silence those who critique it. IE, by simply writing this article I would be opening myself up to a potential lawsuit.
  93.
  94. 9.There are accounts online that seem to indicate that it is difficult to smoothly transition "out of it" if you decide to no longer want to be involved "with it".
  95.
  96.
  97. The bottom line: If you consider yourself a student of the human condition, Scientology uses a fascinating combination of religious indoctrination techniques, military indoctrination techniques and psychological techniques such as hypnosis--all the while using the same fundamental components as all major religions. It is brilliantly designed.
  98.
  99. Regardless, the debate of any religion will rage on infinitely due to the emotional impact on it's believers when their minds attempt to absorb any information that conflicts with their beliefs. Cognitive dissonance is the reason why it is both unwise and futile to attempt a religious conversion.
  100.
  101. Again, the point here is not to single out Scientology. Many of the above points are paralleled in all religions:
  102.
  103.
  104. •One man designs a religion;
  105.
  106. •Using the above foundation, techniques and components;
  107.
  108. •He or She accumulates a mass of followers worldwide;
  109.
  110. •These followers believe it, perpetuate it, support it, fiercely protect it, spread it to others and actively and forcibly indoctrinate their own children into it.
  111.
  112.
  113. Author's Note: I say "She" above in a vain attempt to motivate a woman to please start a religion! You would have your first follower: Me. Yes, there are individuals who are bored with the last five thousand years of male-centric religions and would be happy to let a woman give it a shot. Bottom line: Based on the track record of male-dominated civilization, I think it's about time a woman starts a religion.
  114.
  115. All beliefs on life are created, evolve and perpetuate using these same fundamentals. We merely deconstructed a modern example with the most transparent history for us to deconstruct.
  116.
  117. You may attempt to debate how Scientology is drastically different from Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. But the reality is that, fundamentally, all of these religions are built on the above foundation.
  118.
  119. In other words, you can argue petty differences and you can make great points on this difference or that difference. You will probably be correct in your points. But no matter what great points you make, the foundation of self-deception is exactly the same.
  120.
  121. I've heard many people criticize Scientology and it's practices over the years. These critics, ironically, hold dear beliefs on life:
  122.
  123.
  124. •That are equally as transparent.
  125.
  126. •That are open for an equal level of criticism.
  127.
  128. •That require the same amount of indoctrination and self-deception to believe.
  129.
  130. •That have split into various "demoninations" and "sects" when individuals revolted against the othodox, original versions.
  131.
  132. •That have resulted in wars, murders, homocides, suicides, genocides, sexual misconduct, tortures, "witch-hunts", bizarre punishment rituals, etc over many centuries.
  133.
  134. •That have extremely questionable pasts. (IE, Christianity has Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, pedophiles, etc. Islam has Jihad, fundamentalists, treating women like dogs, etc).
  135.
  136. •That hold no evidence, outside of anecdotal accounts and human-written texts, that their version of "reality" is any closer to "actual reality" than another religion.
  137.
  138.
  139. Depending on your worldview, you will fall into one of two categories:
  140.
  141.
  142. 1.If you have already invested emotions into your beliefs, you will find the "all religions based on the same foundations" idea hard to accept.
  143.
  144. 2.But if you have spent your life as a spectator (not participating or investing emotions in various ideas on life), then this "all religions based on the same foundations" idea should be crystal clear.
  145.
  146.
  147. The most important component to understand throughout all of this is the boundless capacity for human self-deception. The teaching of self-deception rises from the smokestacks of every media organization, every corporation, every university, every public school and every courthouse.
  148.
  149.
  150. •It is not the religion that deceives you. The religion teaches you to deceive yourself.
  151.
  152. •If we possessed the same amount of historical information on how the major religions were founded, you would see glaring similarities.
  153.
  154. •You can be taught to believe absolutely anything under the right circumstances. The belief is not founded in "actual reality", the belief is founded in your infinite capacity for self-deception, IE your "human reality".
  155.
  156. •The Chinese proverb, "Three men make a tiger". If my parents believe that "Three men make a tiger", I may grow up believing that A) You can take three men B) Combine them together and C) That creates a tiger.
  157.
  158.
  159. We deconstructed belief systems not to better understand how these techniques work: The more important question is why these techniques work. To learn why these techniques are universal to any culture, time or place.
  160.
  161. There is a writing on the wall now that you can see. You just need the proper prism to read what it says.
  162.
  163. Want to know the fundamental reason "why" these same techniques work, and why they transcend culture, time and place? It's quite simple, but you won't "believe" it.
  164.
