- Backstory:
- Born on a plane of little magic, on the cusp of the renaissance, Sancho Delgado was orphaned at a young age by a goblin assault. Unlike many urchins, he was fortunate- he was swept up as a squire by a traveling knight. In time, he rose through the ranks, joining a garrison on the border of Alaborn, learning the ways of sword, powdergun, and horsemanship. Though he was never quite comfortable in the heavy plate mail of the order, he performed admirably as a warrior. Life was pretty sweet- he was courting a fair maid of the scholarly bent, he had land, and he had a title. That is, things were going well until an Alabaster Dragon razed the barony to the ground to raid its coffers. Though Sir Delgado fought bravely, he and his cohorts were no match for a dragon- but as all he ever knew burnt around him, his spark flared to life for the first time, and he planeswalked away.
- He found himself wandering between worlds, never quite finding an order of knights that he could throw himself behind. That is, until he found his home on Morricona. So it came to be that Ranger Delgado joined the Knights of the Blazing Saddle. Descended from cavalry of generations past, they were the keepers of Law and Peace in the Civilized East- so it's no surprise that they continued that role in the Wild West. Far away from their centralized authority, many of the knights decided to take advantage of their station as arbiter of law for personal gain. These corrupt lawmen were eroding the people's faith in the knights- what were supposed to be the best and brightest of the people's protectors. And their depredations often lead them to clash with chupacabras and skinwalkers, endangering the very people they were supposed to protect. Sancho, however, would not abide by this. Forsaking the oath of the White Hat sworn by the Knights that granted him personal power as sheriff, he swore a new oath before the heads of the order and the heads of state alike.
- "I, Sancho Delgado, do solemnly swear by my father's grave to uphold the Laws and Ordinances of Morricona, serve the public trust, and defend the subjects of Her lands without fear, favor, or thought of personal safety; to pursue evil-doers and protect the innocent, laying down my life if necessary in the cause of said duty, so help me God. Viva Morricona!"
- The new oath was instantly approved. However, when ordered to put down a strike of miners, the finer points of the wording immediately became clear. Nowhere in the oath did it ever mention following orders, or even serving the government's interests. In fact, it was firmly worded in favor of the citizenry. Tipping his hat to men who couldn't arrest him for violating oaths or orders, he rode out west to begin his work cleaning up the countryside. There's many adventures to be told- shooting out a tornado elemental's eyes, stopping a zombie invasion from the Dead Lands, tricking a rampaging Whimpus into digging a river to save a town from drought, stopping an avalanche from destroying a Sasquatch enclave, the list goes on. However, one must be told- the story of how he met his steed, Thunder- The 13th Child.
- The town of Caballo Diablo was not a proud mark for Morricona. Built on land swindled from the local chupacabras, attempting to farm barren soil, and located where two roads meet- the preferred stalking grounds of a Crossroads Devil. One such crafty devil had slowly, but surely, challenged the beleaguered townsfolk to a game of poker- his gold claims and supplies of rations versus their very souls. Desperate from hunger and a failing mine, the townsfolk took him up on it- and those that wouldn't challenged him for the souls of family and loved ones. Even the local Chupacabras got in- the Devil had the souls of the townsfolk, he pointed out- which meant he had the land rights. The town watched in dread as man after man anted up. Human, chupacabra, sasquatch. All of them, cleaned out by the devil- who would have them work to their deaths in his goldmines. Even the shaman of the Chupacabra, Sangre Negra, ponied up- and promptly ran out of things to bargain as the devil beat his hand again and again. The gambling fiend was just about to walk off with all his ill-gotten gains, before Sancho burst in, slapped his sheriff's badge on the table, and challenged the demon. Most of those present were groaning already- but the wager was made.
- People were surprised when the demon pulled out a Full House. It was a good deal worse than the cards he'd been pulling before. They were flabbergasted when the Ranger pulled out a four-of-a-kind. This would go on for days- drinks and food flowed as the sheriff and demon traded blows, leaving the two even. Growing tired of the charade, the Crossroads Devil went all in- revealing a straight flush. Sancho, meanwhile, pulled out a royal flush- robbing the devil of everything down to the clothes on his back. Souls returned to the populace, new prospecting claims handed out to chupacabras and citizens alike, and a new horse in tow, Sancho made his way out... to find a titanic, slavering monstrosity of a horse. As he watched it thrash against the townsfolk who brought it to him, the two felt... something. The red eyed horse had no brand, and looking at him, Sancho knew that the beast would never take one.
- "Wild as a Tumbling Brushwagg, swift as the wind roaming free. I'll call ya Thunder, ya monster- I think you've been waiting for me."
- It would be several weeks before the horse and rider would accept each other. They found that their partner shared their wild, restless spirit- loving nothing more than running across the plains. The two became closer than brothers, saving each other time and again. Rushing to every corner of Morricona, the two found they were running out of lands to run across- and, in that dread moment of realization, Sancho's spark ignited- alongside Thunder's. The horse, after all, was a demon- and the thirteenth son of a thirteenth son at that. The two now ride across Plains and Planes, forever inseparable, in search of adventure and justice to dispense, though Morricona is forever their home.
- Abilities: Horsemanship, Auramancy, First Strike, Deathtouch.
