TIFU by startling a cat

Happened a few years ago but still relevant today.

I used to work for a parcel delivery company in the UK and I pulled up to a house where beautiful white kitty was basking in the sun.

I got my parcel from the van and as I usually do pet any animals on my route as its a bonus of the job. I touched the kitty on its head and it jumped out of its skin, I mean it flipped and went mental spastic at me which freaked me out. I dropped the parcel on the floor which freaked the cat out even more, ran out to the road and a car clipped its tail end and disappeared into the row of hedges across the road. The owner came out and saw what happened, I was obviously physically shocked with what transpired and she told me the cat was deaf due to a genetic trait this particular breed has.

A week later I was delivering again, no cat outside but I saw her in the window glaring at me. For the whole week I felt so guilty that I accidently killed this beautiful moggy, thankfully all that happened was a her tail got damaged halfway down and theu had to get it cut off. Poor little thing.

TLDR: scared a deaf cat that ran off, got hit by a car and she now has half a tail. Bless her.
