TIFU by telling my little brother we aren't friends anymore.

Im visiting family who live a state away, including my little brothers. Family issues have caused us to be separated so I don't get to see these guys often.

My little brother is 10 and has had a stressful childhood, to put it shortly. Lots of neglect and unrest and abuse. I experienced most of it with him, and was seperated from him only a few years ago. I've always tried to be one of the few sources of stability and good in his life.

We have the kind of relationship where we annoy eachother, call eachother names, be mean, etc. But I still maintain a responsibility toward him. And as much as he'd hate to admit we love eachother very much. He's a "tough kid with a soft spot".

So tonight this little fucker wouldn't get to bed. He was really testing it tonight....


"Get into bed NOW. Come on. Dont push it."

"I am in bed"     *balances on top of a bar stool*


I was running out of cards to play. I threatened to "wake up mommy". I threatened to take away his xbox. I took the money I gave him to add to his coin counter (a big deal).

Eventually I was like:

"Okay fine. You know what, x? We arent cool anymore."

He crawled into bed and covered his head and I heard him sobbing immediately. He never cries and his feelings are really hurt.

Anyway I have some bridges to rebuild tomorrow and it wont be easy.


TLDR: Brother wouldnt go to bed. I told him we werent cool anymore, completely destroying his feelings.
