  1. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Any% F.A.Q.
  2.
  3. Q: What are you trying to do?
  4. A: I am trying to complete Pokémon Alpha Sapphire as fast as possible
  5.
  6. Q: This is not Any% Glitchless, are there any glitches in this speedrun?
  7. A: There are no glitches that would aid in the speedrun, so we consider this the “Any%” category. If/when glitches are found that drive the time down, it may be split into multiple categories
  8.
  9. Q: What is your best time?
  10. A: My best time is 3:07:48
  11.
  12. Q: What is the World Record?
  13. A: The World Record is 3:06:47 by truely. The best time in Alpha Sapphire is 3:06:20 by IMAX1Up
  14.
  15. Q: Why did you just list two times? Why isn't the 3:06:20 World Record?
  16. A: The runner has chosen not to have his times represented on the leaderboards. The run is completely legitimate, so it was not a moderator action. Because of this though, it causes some confusion however I wanted to make sure all of the information was given to you, the viewer :)
  17.
  18. Q: What are you playing this on?
  19. A: I am playing this on a 3DS with a capture board installed
  20.
  21. Q: Where can you save time?
  22. A: The Latias section, by far, has the most timesave. I had mediocre stats, died twice, and hit a spinner. Everything else is really good in my PB though, so it's not as clear cut as just "have a good Latias and free WR"
  23.
  24. Q: What Pokémon do you use in the run?
  25. A: I will be using a Mudkip until we are gifted a Latias, Latias until we catch a Kyogre, and Kyogre until the end. For HMs, Mudkip will learn Rock Smash, Strength, Surf and Dive. Latias will learn Fly and Waterfall
  26.
  27. Q: Why did you choose the girl?
  28. A: Your rival has different Pokémon, and those Pokémon have different Nature's depending on what gender they are. The boy rival has more favorable natures on Rival 2 and Rival 4
  29.
  30. Q: Can you do this run on Pokémon Omega Ruby?
  31. A: Yes, and I strongly recommend running on Omega Ruby instead of Alpha Sapphire! The World Record for Omega Ruby is 3:04:24 by Sinstar, and my PB is 3:04:51
  32.
  33. Q: Why do you name yourself a 1 character name?
  34. A: We set our options to have a Text Speed of Fast, however text still scrolls onto the screen. By naming the characters a 1 character name, we can save some time over the course of the run on text, with the cost of a second or two by bringing up the naming screen. I do not name any Pokémon since it does not save time
  35.
  36. Q: What are IVs?
  37. A: IVs are the number, 0-31, given to a stat to determine the stat growth. The higher the number, the better the stat
  38.
  39. Q: Why did you not check stats on Mudkip when you received him?
  40. A: The stats I want to see on Mudkip after all is said and done are about 42% to appear, however the stats I want to see at Level 5 are 74%. This means that roughly 3 out of every 4 runs make it past the initial stat checking, which makes it a bit of a waste of time to check at Level 5
  41.
  42. Q: Why did you reset after Rival 1?
  43. A: I checked the Mudkip's stats on the level up and it wasn't good enough. At Level 6, I need 14 Attack, 10 Defense, 10 Special Attack and 9 Speed. This is about 42.08% of Mudkips
  44.
  45. Q: That sounds super complicated! Do all of those stats matter?
  46. A: Yes!
  47. - Attack is the main stat needed throughout the run as the vast majoring of fights require a decent attack stat. For Attack, I'm requiring a Neutral (10-31 IV) or Plus (0-31 IV) Attack nature
  48. - Defense is more important than you might think, with some fights like Hideki or Norman not being possible with a bad Defense. I'm requiring a Minus (17-31 IV), Neutral (0-31 IV) or Plus (0-31 IV) Defense nature
  49. - Special Attack is interesting in that it's not important on very many fights at all, but the fights that it is important on can be very dangerous. The only fights where a good vs bad Special Attack is apparent is on Hideki, Brawly, Rival 2, and Flannery. I'm requiring a Minus (17-31 IV), Neutral (0-31 IV) or Plus (0-31 IV) Special Attack nature
  50. - Speed is crucial, but there are mitigation strategies for bad Speed. Unfortunately, those mitigations require an extra turn or two in either Norman or Maxie 1, and potentially giving Rival 2 and Wattson a chance to kill me or waste time. I'm requiring a Minus (20-31), Neutral (0-31 IV) or Plus (0-31 IV) Speed nature
  51.
  52. Q: Do you reset for stats on Latias or Kyogre?
  53. A: I do not. The route is made to work with all Latias and Kyogres we can get. The route is definitely easier if we have a good pair of Legendaries however. Since Legendaries have at least 3 31 IV stats, we're usually okay. Ideally, we have 80 Special Attack and 80 Speed on our Latias at level 30 (31 IVs in both), and 153 Special Attack and 99 Speed on Kyogre at level 45 (31 IVs in both)
  54.
  55. Q: What is your goal time?
  56. A: I don't really have one for AS! I'm just doing some research at the moment :)
