- Returning to Twitch for the majority of my streams come September. (yes, only a few days away)
- Two main main reasons:
- - Community
- Although many of the Playstation (mainly Spyro/Crash) runners began streaming here together, I still can't help but feel like I've drifted away from a lot of people who remained on Twitch throughout the whole of August. I see the situation on our hands currently -- a chunk within the community of speedrunners choosing to stream and conduct themselves primarily to a site other than Twitch -- as an unnecessary division. I'm all for people (streamers) trying out other sites: in no way should you feel obligated to be on Twitch, but I'm also accepting of the fact that some people (viewers) don't want to manage and circulate any more than 1 streaming site. If the bulk of people (both streamers and viewers) are on Twitch, I'm going to be magnetized there in a sense.
- - Functionality
- Hitbox is still a developing site with many, many problems. Maybe when they're a little more ready for this much more activity, I'd want to stream there more. But for now, we have access to a perfect, wonderfully developed platform -- I see no reason to put up with a bunch of frustrations and inadequacy.
- Now...does this mean I'm running back to Twitch with my tail between my legs? Well not at all, I hope nobody perceives me in that light. I'd also like to think I never left, as I've been on there still every single day in August; some days not very long, but you get the point.
- So despite my reasons for coming back and sounding somewhat negative toward Hitbox, I absolutely do not regret this experience. It was a lot of fun streaming to a new site, I encountered so many new ideas and phenomena, got to hear a lot of people's differing viewpoints, and if anything I feel like this STRENGTHENED the community. Yup. This showed that the speedrunning community will move as a whole if prompted to do so by unfavorable changes in our current medium. Although not everyone began streaming to Hitbox, literally everybody and their sister created their username over there. If Amazon, or whoever/whatever, changes things for the worse, we know what to do. And I'm already as prepared as ever, giving myself about a month's experience on the 'Box.
- What does all this mean? Well my resolution is to stream on Twitch /primarily/. And just like I never left Twitch, I won't be leaving Hitbox either. I'm just stretching myself out a bit, being flexible. So any speedrunner who's still on there or whatever, you can possibly expect to see me stopping by. I'll even continue streaming there myself, maybe once a week, maybe once a month, maybe once every other day. Whatever I'm feeling like. It's so nice to be able to have that option! And I won't split it up either, like 'runs on Twitch, practice on Hitbox' -- no no, it will be spontaneous, like attempts for 3 days on Twitch, then attempts on Hitbox the next day. So if you're really interested in watching me live, I'd definitely advise following me on both sites still!
