  5. The original Tenkai Star, from the novel Water Margin, was Song Jiang, also known as Kongming, Filial and Righteous Dark Third Son, Timely Rain, and Protector of Righteousness. Jiang was a historical person from China's Song dynasty, transformed into a legendary folk hero like Robin Hood even before the novel was written. Like his counterparts in the games, Song Jiang led a band of rebels with a stronghold in the middle of a wetland, gathering the other 107 stars to him.

  31. Song Jiang, Liangshan's chief, is impressed with Guan Sheng's might and is eager to have him join the Liangshan band. He sends Huyan Zhuo to pretend to be a turncoat and lure Guan Sheng into a trap. Guan Sheng falls for the ruse, arms himself with a bow and arrows, and brings only a few men with him to meet Huyan Zhuo. He is captured in the ambush and decides to join Liangshan after being persuaded by Song Jiang. He becomes one of Liangshan's Five Tiger Generals later.

  33. Emperor Huizong sends Shan Tinggui and Wei Dingguo to eliminate the outlaws after Guan Sheng's defection. Eager to prove his loyalty, Guan Sheng volunteers to lead the attack on the imperial army, along with Xuan Zan and Hao Siwen, who have also joined Liangshan. Unexpectedly, the first battle ends in disaster when both Xuan Zan and Hao Siwen are captured by the enemy. Guan Sheng confronts Shan Tinggui outside Lingzhou (凌州; present-day Ling County, Dezhou, Shandong), where the two engage in man-to-man combat. Guan Sheng feigns defeat to lure Shan Tinggui to pursue him, and then suddenly turns around to catch Shan off guard, knocks him off his horse and captures him. Song Jiang manages to convince Shan Tinggui to join Liangshan, and then Shan goes to persuade Wei Dingguo to join Liangshan as well.

He dons a red robe, rides on a white stallion and wields a steel spear in battle. He is best known for using his flying daggers, which he uses to accurately strike enemies a distance away from him. He is nicknamed "Striking Hawk" for his superb accuracy and speed with using his daggers and for his prowess in combat skills.

He wields a pair of spears in combat – hence his nickname "General of Double Spears" – and is feared by many for his prowess in battle. Apart from being an accomplished warrior, Dong Ping is also a connoisseur of music and the arts. He can play many musical instruments and is described by women as a romantic man. As such, he is also nicknamed "Refined and Cultured General of Double Spears".

This technique allows him to, with the mere flick of a finger, fling pebbles and small stones at an opponent's face with extreme accuracy. When his opponents are stunned and temporarily disabled after being hit, he will use the opportunity to kill or capture them.

He is not only well versed in martial arts, but is also a powerful swimmer capable of performing many feats in the water. He is thus nicknamed "River Dragon".

In return, Yan Qing serves as one of Lu Junyi's stewards and is very loyal to his master.
