  8. 'I can see a value in an exchange...'
  9. 'It is a delicate business...'

  11. The nature of spying is that no one can be trusted and everything has a price. I took advantage of the Khan's trust, it's true. I told the Cloaked Emissary certain secrets, but the ones he whispered to me in private were worth more. He had insight into the Empire's ambitions. 'The Khan wishes to rule the entire world. The Golden Horde will never stop its westward advance. It is a matter of family honour more than one of greed. This dynasty has conquered half the world, but the cost has been extreme. Fathers and sons have been murdered in their prime, the family is divided. Because he does not know who to blame, the Emperor tries to revenge himself upon the whole world.'
