- The Path member swung his blade, but Aida’s lightsaber did not swing fast enough to catch it. She saw the next milliseconds as if they were being dragged through tar, slow and inevitable, waiting for the blow to land on her. Aida knew it was a killing stroke coming her way, but she refused to close her eyes. The defiance in her eyes would be fighting, too, at the very last moment of her life.
- The blow did not come. At the last moment, the Path member seemed sucked backward into the darkness. She heard him land with a wet thud far away. Through the fighting Path members and Dalnans nearby, she saw a small greenish figure, its three-clawed hand raised.
