124 Glitchless FAQ

Q. What are you trying to do?
A. I am attempting to catch all 124 Pokémon that are obtainable on a single save file without glitches.  The number 124 is because not every Pokémon is available on a single save file

Q. What Pokémon can you not catch?
A. I cannot catch any starters that I don't pick (Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur, Charmander, Charmeleon and Charizard), any Pokémon exclusive to Red version (Ekans, Arbok, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Mankey, Primeape, Growlithe, Arcanine, Scyther and Electabuzz), any Pokémon that evolves via trade (Alakazam, Machamp, Golem and Gengar), the other dojo Pokémon (Hitmonchan), two of the Eeveelutions (Vaporeon and Flareon), the other fossil line (Kabuto and Kabutops), and Mew.  In total, there are 27 Pokémon that will not be caught in this speedrun

Q. Why are you using Blue version?
A. The biggest reason is the Game Corner Pokémon.  In Red, Porygon costs 9999 coins and Dratini comes in at level 18.  In Blue, Porygon is only 6500 coins and Dratini is level 24.  Since those are two of the biggest time wasters in the run, it only makes sense to choose Blue to make them easier

Q. What is your main Pokémon for this speedrun?
A. Squirtle is by far the fastest (and easiest) starter to blow through the game quickly.  We only need to use the Squirtle until it becomes Blastoise, but that should happen around the time we beat Pokémon Tower.  After that we will be mainly using Dratini/Dragonair, with some Omanyte and other Pokémon sprinkled in there

Q. Why don't you pick the other fossil/eeveelution/dojo Pokémon?
A. We pick Omanyte specifically because it is easier to level than Kabuto. Jolteon is picked for an RNG Manipulation (to catch Zapdos). Hitmonlee is picked because it's 2 less steps... We can pick either for that

Q. Why do you keep resetting?
A. RNG Manipulation is used heavily throughout the run. Basically, by hard resetting and doing precise inputs, we can guarantee the same results (encounter/catch in first ball) every time. Feel free to ask more about this one in chat

Q. What are the hardest Pokémon to get?
A. Dragonite, Porygon and Persian. Dragonair doesn't evolve until level 55, and has a Slow experience curve. Porygon costs 6500 game coins, which is $130,000. Meowth evolves at level 28, which is fairly low, but it just takes a while to grind him as he's pretty useless on his own. Honorable mentions go to Omastar and Pidgeot
