MilAnon learns about friendship (Veterans Day One-Shot)

Hey Guys, this is going out to all of my brothers and sisters in arms that are currently serving, or have served in the past. No matter what branch or country, we are still human, thank you, for your service.

>Day friendship comes in handfuls at a time in Equestria.
>Be relaxing at home, not bothering and going out.
>If you did, you’d have to see all those little horses.
>You don’t have much of a problem, it’s just that you never really wanted to make friends with many things here.
>While reading a book you got from a library, you hear a knock at your door.
>”Anooooon, it’s beautiful out today, you should come spend some time with others!”
>Christ, it’s one of the ‘Mane 6’.
>You walk to your door, and open it, so you can greet the ‘Guest’.
>Oh, it’s Twilight.
“Hi, Princess, how may I help you today?”
>Gotta have that respect for authority.
>”Anon, didn’t I tell you to drop the title? We’re friends after all.”
“That’s not something I can do, Princess.”
>She scrunches her nose, “Well, could you still come out and be a social Po-, Person?”
>You take a minute, look at your boots, and look back at the pony.
“Sure, just let me get dressed real quick.”
>The door swings open a bit more, and you invite her in, gesturing to the couch.
“I’ll be down in about 5 or so.”
>You walk upstairs and ponder on what to wear.
>You don’t have much to wear, besides a pair of clothing that Rarity gave you, or your Uniform that you were transported here in.
>Good ol’ OCP uniform.
>Deciding you’d rather be comfy, and not hot, you decide to wear your pride and joy.
>You make sure you follow regulation, even though there really wouldn’t be anyone to yell at you.
>It was your life until you were thrown over here.
>You walk downstairs, and see Twilight looking at your bookshelf.
“Alright, Ma’am, ready when you are.”
>She looks over and raises an eyebrow at you, “Dressing up, Anon?”
>Cue internal scoff.
“No, I just felt that I wanted a little bit of home with me today.”
>”Alright, lets get going then.”
>You follow her out of your house, and lock the door behind you, and follow her down the trail towards town.
>You travel in relative silence, occasionally making small talk to pass time during the walk.
>Arriving at town, you think about what you could do to pass time.
“Wh-“
>You open your mouth to speak, but you’re interrupted by Twilight, as she starts to speak.
>”Want to head over to Sugar Cube Corner to grab a bite to eat?”
>You think for a second, reminding you that you hadn’t really eaten today.
“Sure, Princess, lead the way”
>”Alrighty!” She responds as she turns and starts to trot towards the building.
>”So Anon, how long has it been since you got here? It’s been quite a bit, hasn’t it?” Twilight asks.
>Being in Equestria for a bit of time let you think about something, Ponies don’t really forget things like that.
“About a year or so, I think it was around this time last year, I don’t remember though.”
>Maybe that will throw her off.
>”Hmm, okay, what do you think about Equestria?”
>This throws you off. You’d never think that she would ask you that, especially since she knows you like it here.
“It’s quite pretty here, Princess, I like it a lot, I like that the ponies here are nice, and actually try to be friendly towards each other, instead of just acting hostile towards each other.”
>You stop, and think a bit more about it.
“It’s better than I had it on Earth, because even though we were Brothers and Sisters in arms, they were hostile when I was talking to people that I didn’t know.”
>You leave it at that, and continue to walk, thinking about Earth.
>”Well Anon, It’s good to know you like it here, because I have something to tell you before we walk in here.”
>She stops you infront of the Confection shop, and you take a second look at the window, and notice the absolute stillness inside.
>Your senses take over, and you get a little nervous.
>”Pinkie is a little sick right now, so they are closed for the day, and Mr. and Mrs. Cake weren’t really working full time today, so they  are just having a little time today, they would still take our orders, but they don’t want to get swamped today.”
>It still doesn’t seem right, but you nod your head either way.
“If you say so.”
>You enter the building after Twilight, and after you take a full step inside, the door slams behind you, and the curtains get pulled, so you are put in full darkness.
>You didn’t have much in line of unarmed combat, but you went through combatives in basic.
>You remember some of that, right?
>The lights get flicked on, and ponies from all sides yell “Surprise!”
>After the sudden heart attack subsided, you look around to give that fuckin liar Twilight a glare.
>She’s standing there, with a smug look.
>’Face it Partner, you’ve been played.’
>’Played us like a damn fiddle!’
>’We’ve been bamboozled!’
>And any other saying you can think of, relating to someone trying to trick you.
>A sign unrolls, that says ‘Happy one year anniversary of being in Equestria, Anon!’
“I hate myself.”

>”Hey Anon! Happy first year here! Sorry that we weren’t able to do it on that exact date, which was three days ago, but, we still had the party!” Pinkie yelled in her outdoor-indoor voice.
“Yeah, that’s really nice Pinkie, so what exactly do you have for ‘fun’ here?”
>You tune her out, and think of ways to make that little purple fiend pay.
>You catch the phrase ‘Dunk Tank’ in Pinkies ramblings.
“Woah there little one, did you say, Dunk Tank?”
>”Yup, sure as apple cider on a summers day, I did!”
>You know exactly how.
>...
>This is not how.
>You are in the Dunk Tank.
>You are now in swimming trunks made specifically for you.
>Twilight is pitching balls at You.
>Albeit, She is pretty shit at it.
>God, that wasn’t even in the same area code.
>You kind of want to say something, to try and goad her on, or try to mess her up even more.
>You’re gonna do it.
>You’re doing it.
“God, Princess, atleast try to hit the same time zone as the target, please.”
>She glares at the target a bit more, and picks the ball up with her magic.
>No fair.
>She throws.
>Time grinds to a halt.
>You watch the ball slowly find its way towards the target.
>Wait.
>What.
>It missed.
>Time goes back to its regular pace, and you see the ball drop to the ground as you sit on the plank.
>Twilight turns a shade of red, as you see literal smoke come out of her ears.
>You smile a bit Twilight as she trots away.
>You hear the hum of magic to your left, and you see a ball covered in purple glow hit the target.
>‘Clever Girl’
>You are dropped into the water, and fully submerged.
>As you get out of the water, you are handed a towel by the Pink Party Horse, and you dry off.
>As you dress back up in your uniform, you see Twilight.
“You know, when I wanted to take you to the Dunk Tank, I thought you would be the one in the Tank.”
>She looks at you and smiles, “Well Anon, I guess you were wrong, but yeah, I am a bit sorry for cheating at the game.” She meekly states.
>Oh.
“I mean, its alright, Princess, I needed to go for a Dunk in some water anyway.”
>Oh boy, you’re gonna get her back so hard for that.
>But is that really the way to think about it?
>She laughs, stops, and turns towards you, “Y’know, Anon, you’re always such a strange person sometimes.”
“It helps me with my state of mind sometimes. You know, being in a land with no way of getting back home sometimes puts a damper on moods and feelings.”
>You make do though, always.
>”So is that also why you put on your uniform? A way to make you feel more comfortable about being away from home?” She asks with a questioning look.
>For being a recent loner she can be quite a people person sometimes.
“If you want to, you can say it like that. But eh, I just like it because it’s comfortable.”
>She laughs, and you both go back into the party to have more fun to pass time.
>After a couple hours, you find yourself standing outside the building, when Twilight walks up beside you.
>”What are you doing out here Anon?” She asks you.
“I was just thinking about my life here, and how much I’ve changed since I first got here.”
>Then comes a pleasant silence for a second, when you start looking at some of the buildings around.
>You then look towards the horizon, and notice the sun setting in the sky.
“Hey Princess, today was fun and all, but if you don’t mind, I’m gonna head back to my house, Alright? The party was really fun, and I really enjoyed it.”
>She smiles, “Don’t worry, Anon, it’s fine, you can go, I’ll be sure to pass on the appreciation to Pinkie, too.”
“Thank you so much, Twi, I mean-“
>She gives you a serious look, “Anon, drop the formalities.”
>Fuck, if she’s talking like that, then you’re not gonna disobey her.
“Alright, Twi, I’ll see you later, bye.”
>You turn, and start heading towards your house in the woods, when you hear Twilight behind you.
>”Have a good night Anon, get out more, and be a social person!” She yells after you.
>You just smile and shake your head while walking.
>Fucking horses.
