- On the island paradise of Mata Nui, two Ta-Matoran, Jaller and Takua, stumble upon the fabled Kanohi Avohkii, the Mask of Light. When the Matoran and the islands guardians, the Toa Nuva learn about a seventh Toa, Jaller and Takua are sent on a journey that will be difficult, but with a simple task for the Chronicler and the Head of the Ta-Koro Guard: Find the Toa of Light, but do it before the Makuta can rule all with his newest creation: the RAHKSHI.
- In a land of living machines, two young ones are chosen to seek the legendary Mask of Light to reveal the savior of all the lands from the dark forces of the Makuta. During the course of their adventure, they will call on the heroes of their people, the great Toa. These Toa, masters of nature's forces such as Fire, Wind, Earth & Water, try to protect the chosen ones as they seek their destiny.
- I don't get can someone please explain it to me? I am 9 years old, I buy the toys, I just can't believe that we never got to see a Bohrok in the movie, well sort of, but frozen in ice. This movie was below average kinda like Kangaroo Jack level. It was boring that I almost fell asleep and I watched it before 7pm! It was such an easy plot to follow parts of it was like Lord of the Rings with two little Bionicles taking a Mask to somewhere just like Frodo and Sam with the ring. I could have made a better movie using my toys and spent less money on it. One good note about this movie I found out from the previews that George of the Jungle 2 is coming out next month.
- This movie is a twist between Lord of the Rings and Warriors of Virtue. The concepts are similar, yet this movie has it's own uniqueness as well. I enjoyed it, though it seemed to not take its time toward the end. 7.8 out of 10.
- The reason for this is detailed in the novel Tales of the Masks, a direct prequel to the movie's story. In it, Gali gets mad at Tahu for his brash and hotheaded attitude and for his constant squabbling with Kopaka. When Takutanuva, the fusion between the hero Takanuva and the villain Makuta is crushed by the gate, Takanuva is brought back to life, however the movie doesn't cleat Makuta's fate. Later story material explained that he simply came out on the other side of the gate, alive but with his armor badly damaged. When Takanuva, the hero, takes off the mask of the villain Makuta, they both fall into a strange, silvery substance and emerge as a giant fusion that's half Takanuva and half Makuta.<br/><br/>The substance they tumbled into is called Energized Protodermis, a miraculous liquid capable of transforming or destroying anything it touches -- since Takanuva's and Makuta's destiny was to be transformed, the EP merged them into a being called Takutanuva. Takutanuva was benevolent due to the good Takanuva's mind and his light powers overriding the evil mind and shadow powers of Makuta. No reason, but the creators must have thought that it looked cool and emphasized their importance and special friendship with Takanuva. The movie is confusing on this bit. Turaga Vakama chants "Let us awaken the Great Spirit", however the only thing he does is resurrect Takanuva. The "gate", which throughout the film represents the Great Spirit Mata Nui, is shown lighting up, in a manner that one could confuse for Mata Nui's reawakening.<br/><br/>In reality, that light is the effect of Takanuva's reanimation, and Mata Nui does not awaken in the film. The LEGO Company pushed back his awakening to the 2008 storyline, a whole five years after the release of this movie. Vakama's words in the above described scene are to be taken figuratively -- they have only done the first step leading to Mata NuI's return, namely the re-discovery of the island of Metru Nui. Many other perilous tasks still awaited the heroes 'till they finally managed to wake up the slumbering Great Spirit.<br/><br/>Interestingly, Mata Nui did awaken in the original story concept for the movie but the ending was hastily changed during production and the dialogue wasn't perfectly corrected to reflect these changes. Both the LEGO Company and the movie distributors posed strict guidelines to the movie creators with regards to how much and how intense violence they can show. This is the reason why the Toa (heroes) almost never attack their enemies straight-on, even though they could easily use their swords and other weapons to defeat the villains.<br/><br/>Some years later, LEGO's violence policy loosened up considerably, and the BIONICLE characters were allowed to slash and cut up each other freely, but the movies always had to remain relatively child-friendly to be marketable. Heroes:<br/><br/>Matoran: Takua, Jaller, Hahli, Hewkii, Hafu, Macku, many background Matoran.<br/><br/>Toa: Tahu, Gali, Kopaka, Lewa, Pohatu, Onua, Takanuva (actually Takua transformed).<br/><br/>Turaga: Vakama, Nokama, Onewa, Nuju, Matau, Whenua.<br/><br/>Villains:<br/><br/>Makuta Teridax<br/><br/>Rahkshi: Panrahk, Lerahk, Guurahk, Vorahk, Kurahk, Turahk.<br/><br/>Others:<br/><br/>Rahi: Pewku the Ussal crab, Graalok the Ash Bear, Ka the Gukko bird, numerous other random birds and fish.<br/><br/>Unclassified: Takutanuva, Mata Nui is represented by a large gate and the island of Metru Nui, some frozen Bohrok. The six Toa Nuva each possessed six different Nuva masks which they were able to switch at will. Yet they never do so in the film. Only Tahu has an excuse -- he loses five of his masks when his village is destroyed. Presumably, the creators of the movie thought that people would get confused if they saw any of the Toa running around suddenly looking like another Toa. Likewise, each of the Toa characters were only designed with their "standard" mask-type, and creating additional masks would have consumed too much money and time. d6a2afd33b
