  1. This is some commentary on the following video: https://youtu.be/5OAlW6uRJQ8
  2.
  3. 0:00:00 141: 33 normal / 50 high / 58 high rush (wave PB)
  4. Off to a sloppy start as usual, right? I didn't even notice the rush was a wave PB, and well, it really shouldn't be, because I have a 67 on the other tide that is kinda worse for scores. Just what happens when the wave is so hard to find, and limited specials are a strong factor too when it comes to rush scores. Maybe we'll get to fix that later...not that it will be easy, anyway.
  5.
  6. 0:07:12 128: 42 normal / 51 high / 35 normal
  7. Okay, whatever that part with me frantically looking for a new spawn and then waiting forever for that Flyfish to open was, it didn't feel right. 3+1 formation is good, yes, but probably not to the extreme that the 1 is not contributing for this long. It has effectively the effect of a death.
  8.
  9. 0:28:20 142: 51 normal seeking (wave PB) / 50 high / 41 low
  10. That seeking was a thing of beauty...it's probably the worst wave/map combination in the entire game mode, but here we got decent RNG for once and the strong weapon set to capitalize on it. The game would even have been on map PB pace for me at the time when it happened...but turns out Sameet's Internet disagreed and boom, low tide with nice spawns but only 75% manpower. Oh well, we all already know that's been fixed later and multiple times, so...
  11.
  12. 1:10:44 159: 40 normal / 55 low / 64 low (wave PB)
  13. I think I have never before gone for the center Flyfish on low tide like that. It's pretty dangerous, the team needs to agree on doing it and even then, things can still go wrong easily if you're not Marty. Very nice to have that thing in my new wave PB, also considering that this play actually enabled it. You could wait for it to come closer and that would be safer, yeah, but that is also time you could spend with a whole different set of eggs on top of those.
  14.
  15. 1:31:28 153 (Trilance): 60 normal rush / 50 high / 43 high seeking
  16. Yoooo, that rush...with my not using both Inkjets, you do have to wonder if I just threw away an improvement of our own world record (it is 67 still) there. I blame Trilance. Even though bin70uk is a known good random, you never know what that means to the extent of overfishing (well, shoutouts to normal-tide day WR holder Annika I guess, it's not impossible!). Bad decision there. And also, what a disappointment in that awful RNG from "farmtide" seeking! Still nice 153 anyway but man, imagine, imagine all the things...
  17.
  18. 1:53:38 156: 50 cannons / 64 normal Grillers (obsolete wave PB) / 42 high fog
  19. First wave good, second wave excellent (1 egg off the world record at the time), third wave a chance but I had a bad feeling about this, and regrettably, I was right. Basically, all specials except my Inkjets were already gone, and then these Inkjets had to be both on me and on Dapples. Something's telling me I would do the team the best service by just shredding through everything that comes near me with those augmented toothbrushes, but then we have no specials at all and...no, that can't be it. No matter what, my Inkjet usage was absolute fucking garbage. I'll be entirely honest, I'm not comfortable using Inkjet on a wave like this, it's just as bad as Grillers if not even worse. You can thank the house for that, for most interesting Inkjet targets are actually outside of the house. Maybe could make it a point to paint outside walls harder, then pop the thing on the outside and get myself into the wall and up when I'm done out there but still wishing to shoot things inside. I'll have to try it a bit in the next Outpost rotations when I get to play high tide with Inkjet...or whatever else would be the way to improve here. Actually, maybe just start the thing in the doorway or something. This shouldn't be the worst thing to figure out how to do well, I just need to actively make it a thing.

  21. 2:49:49 152: 67 low fog (wave PB) / 41 normal / 44 normal
  22. A decent run at low tide fog has been overdue for a while, so here it finally is. The full game didn't amount to an exceptional lot thanks to normal tides that weren't too good. In wave 2 I've tried to play the hero going for a Stinger with car aggro and it didn't work out. I remember regretting that immediately, for it's exactly one of the things I've been told NOT to do only a few days earlier. (It's a big risk. If someone sees what you're doing in time and has the range to tap the car, then and only then it's fine. Didn't happen here, and was probably unlikely too, with walls in the way and Bamboo being the only long range. Either way, what you want is the car to go to basket, and it can be better for scores to ignore the Stinger for the sake of not delaying lures.) In wave 3, a similar situation pops up and there you see me handle it much better -- with the Inkjet. The bad news is the spawn RNG at that point ends up rather disappointing, nothing we can do about it.
  23.
  24. 2:58:53 160: 53 cannons / 57 normal rush / 50 normal seeking
  25. Rush again. This time I have Ray and it's definitely my fault this isn't a new whirl rekky. I've done my "research" between reviewing both these rush waves, and Marty says that the general idea is that Ray is more important on normal tide and Inkjet is more important on high tide. They're both always important though, don't get me wrong. With that in mind, I absolutely have to drop both Rays for a shot at the record, and do it earlier. What you're seeing is only a shy and absolutely terrible late Ray. Next time I know better. Just tricky as heck to actually hit a spawn point in combination with the merge point, with the walls in the way of my sight... Oh yeah, want some fun irony? This rush is 10 eggs below the record, but the game with that record in it was 5 eggs lower than this. Thank you decent seeking!??
  26.
  27. 3:12:57 157: 47 low / 55 normal / 55 normal
  28. Yes, I didn't mix up tides, this actually happened like that. Looks like a yard game but it's on Outpost... Some slow play in wave 3 on my end but probably worth 2 eggs at most all things considered. Nice double 55 mid tide anyway, that's actually pretty rare on this map.
  29.
  30. 3:26:54 151: 65 normal Grillers (wave PB, tied obsolete WR) / 43 normal seeking / 43 normal mothership
  31. I am salt. Get this godlike start into the game and then exactly the two night waves you absolutely do not want to see. Okay, let's talk about the good wave then. The record of 65 had already been met by multiple teams before and it would just have made the list even uglier to add this team to it too. However, the run itself was disgustingly close to actually beating it and thus setting a new one. What went wrong? I'm not sure. My first Ray went a bit weaker than I expected it to be, but probably still not the worst to have it there anyway. For the second one, I was absolutely ready to pop that in the endgame. (I've made it a habit to keep a Ray for Grillers endgame, unless a very, very, very tempting group of 2 appears somewhere earlier. If that happens, can only hope for Splashdown or Bomb Launcher to clear the last Smallfry storm instead.) But then the board was so clean, I genuinely had no idea how to make good use of it. Maybe it still would have brought the damned 66th egg though, we will never know for sure. Oh yeah, what about the news on the record, anyway? The dream team of Marty, Minaraii, Sameet and Dusty improved it to 67 near the end of the rotation. Congrats! And, since I'm posting this just before Grizzco Slosher drops...expect that record that's been searched forever to be painfully short-lived.
  32.
  33. 3:33:53 156: 56 high / 55 normal / 45 normal
  34. That probably is the closest I got to a perfect high tide on Outpost. It's a probably a 57 if I don't overprioritize that Steelhead near the end and get an outside egg instead, but for the actual 60/60 the "mistakes" were probably made earlier. It's hard! Wave 2 was very good too and it was such a nice pace for yet another nightless PB...until wave 3. You're seeing the spawns, complete fucking neckbreak. Getting 45 off them is very strong (thanks team!) but far from enough to knock out the 162 from earlier. Oh yeah, for the "not-as-good" players here that might struggle even clearing a wave like this: play aggressively, guys, just play aggressively! Sometimes quota isn't gonna fill itself from lures only, and if you're forcing lures too hard, you might simply die to the stuff you can't lure but also spent no time on dealing with. Kill the unlurables, kill them fast, and don't forget to always take as many of their eggs as you can while you're there and not delaying lures. Correct casual gameplay and overfishing are closer to each other than you might think. (Side note on crippling vs. killing Flyfish: Arguments for both sides can be made. Crippling certainly is fair to manipulate spawns to not shit out even more of them, but it also means there will be missiles on board without cease and they're a big distraction still. It's very much always a gamble whether you cripple or kill them, there is no objective single right answer. Do what you feel is right at the time.)
